Was wondering if any one else has caught on to this. . .

I am close to booking our end-of-October trip. . . we are going regardless of whatever 'deal' we may or may not get. . .

However. . .

I've been periodically (once a week or so) checking rates on our trip. I keep a little tab just to watch the fluctuations. The largest was $100. . .more often it was $25 or so. . .

Anyhow, we got a Pin Code this week for discounted resort stays. We got prematurely excited about this! The week we are planning for was included in the deal, so that was a plus. The discount was for all levels of resorts. (now I know the discounts tend to be 'greater' with each level of resort as it is usually a percentage----but regardless, all levels were mentioned)

So, I go through the motions of checking rates through the email that was sent------it breaks the room rates down for the week and it looks good! Then we keep on moving down to tickets and flights. . .making all the same choices that I've been doing right along. . .

Would you believe that the discounted rate was $118 MORE than booking directly through the Disney site WITHOUT the promotion? We've done this a few times and the prices fluctuate-----but each time, we find it is better to ignore the discount.

Find it odd. Quite bizarre actually. :confused3 Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this. . .and just wanted to share. :upsidedow

what went up?? you said flight right?? didn't they just up the prices on fights

if you already have the flight tickets that should make it go down - I would call & see

I agree. You should try pricing your flight separately. I bet your airfare is what's fluctuating.

I would not book airfare as part of a package deal. I would book room-only, or room + tickets (and maybe dining).

Flight prices constantly change, seem to me also that is where the differences are coming from. PP is correct you need to price the trip without the airfare and the discount should be seen then.

I have seen the same problem. I did the same as you and went through the process of checking prices a couple of different times. No matter how you figure it, the price averages out to be around the same. I even started a thread like you on this site. There is somethng up with pricing. You hear about the great deals but never see them in person.

Oh'. . .sorry, I missed your thread! The flight pricing had nothing to do with it-as you probably know. I even went in as others suggested, but it had no impact. I could go to travelocity, expedia, or wherever and come up with the exact same airfare. ----it was the room rates. Anyhow. . .glad to know I wasn't alone here. . .or wasn't losing my mind!

i was going to say that the airfare isn't in question here, glad you confirmed it
although not "nice" trying to trick you is something done all the time
most people will never check to see if it is a deal or not and just sign up
props for being on your game

:confused3Could it be they have already included the rate increase that usually comes in August? We too have a trip booked for October. I too am learking around the sites to see if we can apply any discounts. For the first time we are a large party of 3 adults and 3 kids, so I have us booked at OKW, so we have a kitchen, but would love to see free dining.
Sometimes I wonder about all their "deals". Since the 2nd quarter results were disappointing we may not see any deals at all or they my try and give good deals to up the shear volume of visitors.
Lots of variables to influence the decision.

Seems odd... Maybe the rooms they're giving you with the pin codes are club level or better view, etc. so that even when discounted they're a bit higher than the lowest level room that are only available without the pin code? Only thing I can think of that would make that happen...

Something similar happened to us. I got a 40% off PIN code (that I was also able to share with my brother's family and my parents) on our last trip in November.

When we initially booked the package in February, we had to book courtyard views at WL for a week, as the standard view rooms weren't available. In April, I noticed that they had standard view rooms available, and they were $350 cheaper for the week, so I told my brother and mother to call. When I called, I happened to ask if there was a PIN attached to my name (thanks, DISboards!), and there was. However, it was only good for the courtyard view rooms (or better). So, while we saved about $1k each from our initial costs, it was $650 less for the week than we could have been paying.

If you had a major room upgrade, it's possible that you're paying more now because of it.
