Does Disneyland have the disposible Mickey Head Plates with their kids meals like Disneyworld does? Can you buy just the plates like you can at DW? I think they were $1 a plate without a meal. My best friend is going to DL on Christmas day and I want her to pick some up for me. I got mine in 06 and they've about had it! LOL

The last time I was there, they still had them. But it's been a while.

I have no clue if you can buy them. I've never even heard of people re-using them. I guess i'm out of the loop or something.

Do you mean the black plastic ones? If so then yes, in July they did have them. I wouldn't think that they would make very good plates for everyday use tho, they aren't very strong......

I grabbed one last week. The kids and I split a meal and the Mickey plates where right there so I put one on my tray. I know Molly (bumbershot) uses them at home. I plan to give it to my 2 year old DNeph.

Maybe I'm thinking about the wrong plates. The ones I'm thinking of are just little plastic ones. Kind of like what a microwave meal would come in.

This is what I'm thinking of too.....they are the ones you get with the kids meals at Rancho Del Zocalo......

Oh yes we use them! They are FABULOUS for getting DS to eat more than he would eat off of the Ikea kid's plates or our fiestaware. He sees Mickey and chows down. :)

I have no idea if you can just buy them, though; we just get kid's meals and extra napkins to wipe out the plate at the end of the meal. We always have one of those clear Disneyland bags, that they give you if you ask for an extra bag to carry something you haven't bought around with you (they don't give the opaque bags b/c they want to see what's in that extra bag!), so we just pop the plates in there and go on our way.

And since hubby and I get kid's meals too, when we aren't sharing, I think we're up to about 10.

Although we do NOT microwave them, hubby has (against my wishes, but it's his job so he makes the decision) run them through the dishwasher umpteen times and they are still great.

Yup, those are the ones in question. :) We had 3 but we're now down to one. Ours has been through the dishwasher almost daily for over 2 years!! :scared1: I hope she's able to get me a few. :)

Really?? I wouldn't think they would last that long at all. My girls are a little old for them but I can see the appeal for littler ones. :)

Kudos to you for not only being incredibly frugal but managing to keep those dishes intact. Don't they start to crack after a few runs through the dishwasher? Back in my poor days I'd keep the plastic fast food cups since I didn't have any real glasses and the plastic would get pretty brittle after 4 or 5 washes. Come to think of it most of my dishes, cups and "flatware" came from fast food places. I'd always grab extra napkins too. Oh to be 18 and poor again.

No, they haven't cracked. One of them, only one, bent permanently, but the others are fine.

I've seen those disneyshopping ones at the store, and they look tacky *to me*. Plus they aren't connected with Disneyland, just Disney, and the Disneyland connection seems to be what's important for DS. He likes the things he got at the parks MUCH better than things I've ordered online for him.

And I find it to feel very wasteful to just toss the plates away at the parks, so even if they only lasted one meal I would feel fine with it. The fact that some have lasted over a year is an extra extra extra extra bonus. :)

I even once cleaned off a plastic plate/platter from Rancho, that hubby and my shared enchilada meal came on, because it felt so WRONG to throw it out. But that did crack, it's a much harder plastic than the kid's meals Mickey plates, so I don't do that anymore.

That's impressive. I have to admit...I'm terribly wasteful at Disneyland. (Don't kill me...haha.) I'll take a huge stack of napkins, only use a few, and then just throw the whole stack away. Well, maybe save a few if I've run out of kleenex. But they are a bit scratchy on my nose.

Well, just eating at disneyland is a bit wasteful to begin with, so I'm happy to take it down a notch. What can I say? I was raised in CA then went to college in WA; we had recycling bins on each floor in my freshman dorm in '87! It's second nature to me to reuse and recycle. :)

When I lived in SC, and was by default hanging out with some people who thought that taking their empties to a recycle station would count as "driving with an open container", I actually convinced them to start recycling their beer bottles! This is a group who would, instead of taking ANY bottles home with them, would toss their bottles into the river, where many parties were held.

I think what finally got them to turn around in their views was when one of them stepped into the river and cut open her foot BIG time. They finally realized that it was likely one of their own thrown bottles that did it.

We then started bringing black trash bags, putting empties in there, and that got them to recycle, yay.

So you can see that it hurts me to throw so much away at Disneyland. :)

And it's one reason I was so shocked to see Ed Begley Jr there during our trip, because he's such an eco-conscious guy!

Wait a second, Florida SELLS those plates :scared1:?!

DLR does use those plates for our Kids Meals. If you want extras, just ask the CM behind the counter, they'll be happy to give 1 or 2 extra. And, unlike our counterparts at WDW, we don't charge.

Where in the resort do you work?

You don't toss the plates at Rancho, they clean the tables off for you and the clean and reuse the adult size plates. :) I know because I asked, I wasn't about to toss those!! lol

We are huge on recycling and being as green as we can. We have a good friend who works in the environmental field and DBF is an environmental chemist, he works at an environmental lab in Berkeley. We don't toss anything if we think it can be reused. We aren't nuts about it and we don't push it onto others but we do it all the time. When we first moved into our home no one on our street recycled, we were the first ones and now there are only a few that don't.

I'd like to know too, or in which resort do you work?

That's what I heard. Apparently you can get them at the resorts for $1 a piece. I got mine from the kids meal and didn't know that they could be purchased at the time. I'll make sure to have my friend ask for more plates when she orders. She's got 3 little ones too so I'm sure they'll do plenty of kids meals. :)
