Mickey ear selection - please make me feel better!

I'm getting anxiety over something very silly.

Short version: Is there a good selection of Mickey ears at the AKL gift shop?

Long version: Mickey ears are very important to me. Why? I have no idea, but I HAVE to get a pair on the first day of my vacation. Last year at DLR I was too indecisive and didn't get them until the second to last day, and spent most of my vacation looking at everyone else's ears trying to decide which ones to get.

This year I am determined to get my Mickey ears ASAP. My plan actually is to grab some at the gift shop right after we check in at AKL. My question is about the selection at the gift shop... I'm assuming that most shops sell the same basic selection of ears - is this right? We're going to DHS on our first day; is there going to be a wider selection there?

I feel very silly worrying about something like buying Mickey ears, but for some reason it's my #1 concern right now. Just want to make sure I can get some ears at the gift shop that look good with my purple hair and I wont spend the entire trip looking at everyone else's ears regretting that I didn't shop somewhere else.

So if someone can just reassure me that I will be able to find Mickey ears on the first day that would be fantastic. Then I can start stressing over something much more important. Like how this is my first plane trip and I have no idea what to put in my carry-on or what shoes to wear. :)

I don't know about AKL, but I was at the GF and there weren't that many. They had the bride and groom ones (bc that hotel is popular for weddings I guess), but other than that I think I only saw one little girl's pair at the hotel shop.
I remember bc it was the 3rd day of the trip that I finally found the baby boy ones for my son. Maybe you should hit DTD that night?-Or even the Disnet store at the Orlando airport?

Your best bet in my opinion is MK or at which ever park you head to first. The gift shops have good assortments, but you will see others that are not at them. So if it is that important, schedule it into the first day...go to the park and get it.

The big store in MK has a great selection. It's about a block inside the gates on the left side of the street. I haven't seen much selection at any of the resorts.

With that in mind, I really recommend you go someplace with a HUGE selection. Like World of Disney at DTD.

Or, as someone said, the store AT the airport. We had a chance to look through there twice, and they really did have quite a selection! Including a limited edition 40 year anniversary hat that my cousin's husband could not find anywhere he looked during his stay.

So just pop into the store at the airport, see their selection! Don't rely on a hotel giftshop for the selection that will make you happy.

(and just in case you see them and want them...the Mickey ears safari hat that Stacey wears in the "must see/do" video are CHILDREN's sized only...ugh)

I second PP idea of Downtown Disney and the WoD store.

We make it a point to go to WoD (both at DLR and WDW) before we hit a park to get an idea of what we're looking for and to know what's there -- I'd rather wait and buy it NOT in a park if I can.

That said, the ears I got from WDW this past May I only saw at one stand in MK and one shop in EPCOT. But, if you want your ears right out of the gate, I'd hit DTD right away!

If you have a particular style in mind you could *try* contacting the Disney Florist to see if they can be delivered to your room. I'm not sure what all versions they carrry - they definitely have the basic ones and can personalize them because DH and I had them delivered a few trips ago along with a couple of little treats for DD. They charged the same for the items as the stores and there was a delivery charge and a charge to wrap them, but I thought all in all it was reasonable and a fun little treat to get something in the room the first day.:goodvibes

The best place is The Chapeau at Magic Kingdom Park on the right side as you are entering the park accross the street from Tony's restuarant. You create your own ears:thumbsup2

Thank you for the advice everyone! I'll make sure to check out the airport gift shop and try to squeeze in a trip to DTD before we begin our DW adventure. Glad to know ahead of time not to expect a wide range at AKL.

Hopefully I wont be so picky this year.

We got the 40th anniversary ears on the boardwalk in July, when we were wearing them even the cast members were asking where we purchased them because they hadnt seen them yet.

They were really hiding! Cousin had been looking for them during their part of our stay, and then after they went home (semi local) we had to go to the airport b/c we'd left something at the Hyatt. While there, I saw the ears at the airport shop. Then a week later the family came back out for one evening, and found the ears hidden away in a corner at Mouse Gears. He was happy to not have to go to the airport, LOL.
