My wife is wanting to take a Mickey Mouse costume on our cruise this fall for a Halloween costume contest. We bought the costume on ebay so Mickey could appear at our daughter's birthday last year. I'm just not sure if there are any rules against this. Anyone know?

Disney has, in the past, barred adults from entering the parks dressed as Disney characters. The most recent one I recall is a young woman who was barred from entering DAK dressed in a very elaborate Tinkerbell costume with her boyfriend on his birthday. The company line was they did not want guests confusing her with CMs in costume. I've also seen adult guests in extremely well done, highly detailed character costumes at MNSSHP. There was a guy dressed in an off the hook Mad Hatter costume at one of the MNSSHPs. It looked straight out of the movie. So it's possible that they are a little more relaxed at Halloween. I've never heard anything like that on DCL and I've seen more than a few Captain Jack Sparrow lookalikes (some better than the actual costumed CM) on pirate night. I'd place a call or send an e-mail to DCL just to be safe.

Adults are allowed to wear costumes during Halloween ticketed special nights at Disneyland, so I assume the rules are the same for MNSSHP. If the OP is sailing on the Dream during the Halloween special cruises, the rules will probably be the same, but emailing and getting a written response that can be printed and brought onboard is the safest option.

While Halloween is going to be a more lenient time costume wise, I'm betting a full body/mask that fully covers your face and head (which is what I'm picturing if you bought this to have "Mickey" show up at home) won't be allowed. Now dressing like a character with say ears on your head and a fake nose or something would be totally fine. Also not sure how much space something like that takes up for packing or in the room? I'd go with something more home made and less pre packaged? Good luck!

They don't specify in the email about the Halloween celebration that costumes closely resembling Disney characters are prohibited:

From the email:

"Please remember that while all Guests are invited to wear costumes, we ask that you choose costumes that are not obstructive or offensive. To avoid any disappointment or delay in the boarding process, we ask that when considering costume options you refrain from bringing toys or props that resemble guns, knives or other related implements, as these items will not be allowed onboard."

So, nothing obstructive, offensive or that has a weapon.

They don't say anything about full Mickey costumes.

In the parks there are restrictions about adults dressing as Characters, but I haven't seen them enforce it.

I'm willing to bet a face/head mask (fully covering the face) would've considered obstructive. If anyone cared. I think any kind of full body Disney character costume would get stopped 9/10.

I do know that on DCL, if you wear a costume that's "too good" and looks too much like a real Disney one, you will be asked to let people know you are NOT a Disney character, and you can't sign autographs.

Let us know what they say.

Here is their response:

"Adult Guests who “look like” Disney characters are not allowed to pose
for photos or sign autographs for other Guests. If these behaviors are
observed, they may be asked to change.

However, costumes that have a "full head" are not permitted."

Kind of what I expected. Thanks again to those who responded.
