mickey bars

My daughter is severely allergic to peanuts. Does anyone know if the Mickey Bars are safe?

As far as I know, just from looking at them and eating them (just the other day!!), teehee, they are vanilla ice cream with a chocolate coating. No peanuts in them. Sprinkles on top though!

I suppose that there could be peanut oil or some other nut oil in the chocolate coating. I would read the ingredient label first.

That being said, should I notify DCL to stock up the Magic with extra Mickey Bars since we plan on having them everyday of our cruise...LOL!!

Where do you get them? We will be on the Wonder next year and want to make sure and have some!!! They sound scrumptious!

I got one at dessert time one night at dinner. Our server said I was acting like a kid so he was bringing me a kid dessert.

The Mickey Bars themselves have no peanuts in them. However, we have a friend with severe peanut allergies. She has to be sure that there were no peanuts in the factory where something was made as any little bit of cross contamination will cause an anaphylactic reaction. For example, there is one brand of chocolate chips she can use (most places that make choc. chips also make peanut butter chips). She can only use this one brand that is available at Sam's.

Bottom line, you know how allergic your child is. What if the machine used to mix the chocolate had a smidge of some nut product on it? Check the label on the Mickey Bars, and then use the allergy sites to check the factory where they are made if that is necessary in your case.

Thank you everyone for the info. My daughter is severely allergic and I am glad they come wrapped so i can read the label.

I am wondering about the sites i would use to check the factories of things though?

You'll have to ask the server for the wrapper--otherwise, they will remove it and serve it on a plate. Also....had a thread a few months ago when my friend sailed. Have your doc fill in medical form noting the allergy. Call DCL ahead of time and let them know. The first night, the head server and your server will speak with you, even bringing out one of the head chefs if needed. For my friend, they even brought special food on board based on her needs (per medical form). THey called her ahead of time and found out exactly what would work.

Their initial response was along the lines of "peanut allergy, no big deal, we have this one all the time..." but after talking with her, they were wonderful and did exactly as she asked. No problems.

My DD also has a peanut allergy. We did allow her a Mickey Bar at the park and she was fine, but I think it is made in a factory where other things have nuts. My DD can deal with those things occasionally, but NOT everyday. She really enjoyed her treat and had no reaction. Just ask for the wrapper, then decide. Have a wonderful trip!

Hi all,

This is a great thread. DS 7 1/2 is also severly allergic to nuts. I found the Mickey ice cream sandwhich specifically stated on the label that it was made in a factory which also made products with peanuts. The Mickey Bars do not have that disclaimer, so we allow DS to have them, and he has eaten Mickey Bars at both the parks and on the Disney Wonder and Magic.

FYI on cholcolate chips. . . we purchase all our chocolate products, including chocolate chips at www.vermotnutfree.com

Vermont Nut Free is an awesome company. They guarantee their products are nut free, and offer chocolate chips, "kisses" and small Hershey style bars. In addition, they have seasonal varieties for Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day etc. DS's teachers have always had a bag of those safe candies in the room, in case another child brings a treat which may have nuts.

My DH looks is looking forward to his week's worth of Mickey Bars when we're on the 9/18 cruise. He passes up all the delicious desserts just for a Mickey Bar. Dove Bars are a substitute for him but not the real thing.

I am amazed at the people that love those Mickey bars....I don't see any great thing about them over plain old Dove bars.....I would much rather have a nice piece of cheesecake for dessert or a small piece of cake....

They are, if they are the same ones as they serve in the parks.

But PLEASE let DCL know early on (like now ) that your daughter has a severe nut allergy. They will want to be able to put checks into place to avoid cross contamination. I know that they need 72 hours advance notice in the restaurants at the resorts to accomodate this, so your best bet is to have it placed boldly on your reservation.
