Mickey Balloons

I'm going to finally buy myself one of those shiny Mickey head balloons this year, and I'm 37. Always wanted one as a kid but never got one, and since we're taking my parents to Disney with us this year I think this is the year I will finally get one. And I'm keeping it in our room at the Poly all week long, even if it drives my dad nuts! :yay:

Yey, I'm glad someone else is getting one too!

I'm 24 and when we were there this past April, I told DBF that I wanted one of the shiny Mickey head balloons, which he kindly bought for me :) I smiled like a child all the way down Main Street and back to our resort! I kept it in the room for the two weeks we were there and then even let it down and folded it to bring it home with me :rotfl:

I loved my Mickey balloon and I'd encourage any adult that if they want one to go get one, no-one will even blink an eyelid at you :thumbsup2

Update on my red Mickey balloon (cost $10, btw), purchased May 15th: 57 days later and it is still as inflated as it was when we got it, minus the one ear that deflated the day we left.

57 days. :rotfl2:

They probably don't sell the plain Mickey ears ones because they do not last long. If they sold a bunch in the beginning of the day they would go flat and people would complain and Disney would have to replace them and they can't make money doing that.

The Mickey head in the clear bubble are called Glasshouse balloons. So they are Mickey Glasshouse balloons.

SorcerorDonald, maybe it's lasting so long because it is not exposed to the air so it's not deteriorating very fast.

Sigh, I loved balloon selling shifts and working back in the balloon room blowing them up, they were my favorite, almost makes me forget the days I came home smelling like popcorn :crazy2:

As a very young child ( 0-3 1/2) I lived 5 miles from Disneyland. The mickey balloons are one of my fondest memories. I want one everytime we go.:)

Don't tell anyone but most resorts have them (without the clear balloons) and you can try and ask upon check-in:idea: We usually have them at the Boardwalk but are currently out due to popular demand!

Hey....found this pic i took recently! hope you like!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

I read that the latex balloon and the plastic balloon tie together at the bottom exposing the latex end. For those allergic to latex, these balloons are still not safe. My ds7 is allergic to latex - started when he was 3 and had an anaphlyactic reaction to a craft-foam bunny mask on Easter.

For those with severe allergies - always have your emergency medicine with you (for ds that's Benadryl and an EpiPen). You never know when the hands of someone that touched those balloon ends have touched the que line that your hands are on.

I generally give ds a Benadryl every morning at Disney just for this reason. He's not super-sensitive to balloons - more so to foamy stuff like the craft foam, Nerf products, pointy-fingers at ball games, etc.

Hmmm... I work in an operating room so I know a bit about latex exposure and latex alternatives. I wear Nitrile gloves because in the summer my hands breakdown and peel if I wear the latex ones.

If they can make a non-latex outer balloon to cover the latex one - why not just make a non-latex Mickey balloon?

Must something to do with the making the Mickey shape and elasticity.

dont forget if you buy a balloon on your way IN to the park.. unless you have a stroller.. one of your party will need to stay off the rides all day.. :(

Remember to buy one on the way OUT :)

I love the old style balloons too. I remember many a time leaving Disneyland with a one eared-Mickey. They do still exist though. On another Disney board someone posted pictures they took recently at DL. They were filming a commercial for the next theme (after the current dreams theme is over.) The girl in the photo is holding a classic Mickey (non glass house) balloon. So they are out there! :rotfl:

And since we are talking balloons, I will share a pic I took at DHS last fall.

10 dollars! Wow! :sad2: My hopes of getting a balloon have been deflated. :sad1: Every time I go I want to get one...but then I don't know what I'd do with it during the day while I'm on the rides.

I too am guilty of keeping the mylar balloons once they start to deflate. :rotfl2:

We always get a mickey or 2 mylar balloon when we arrive to keep in the windows during our stay. If possible, I keep them inflated on the drive home. It just keeps the magic alive a little bit longer.;) If not, I deflate them, pack em up. I have a shoebox that I keep them in @ home.

I was watching a video from 1985 and Main Street was loaded with white balloons with different colored Mickey heads in them. My sister bought a purple one and by they end of the night both Mickey ears were deflated so it looked like a purple balloon inside a white one.
