I finally got to the Disney store and picked up several boxes of Mickey and Friends, for my grands to trade with CM's at DD. Imagine my surprise, thinking I was getting a ggod deal, when the CM at the DS told me that these have to be traded as a "set". I would have to give up all four, for one pin (no deal there). Another gal came over, and said that is the only way they will tade them at the Disney store, and as far as she knew, at DD. I don't understand..it's obvious to me, these can be "stand alone" pins..but what do I know..I'm new at this. Has anyone traded at their Disney Stores or Downtown Disney? Thanks fo ran enlightenment you can throw my way!

Maybe the CMs interpreted the rules differently. It's my understanding that these pins can be traded separately, like the "four parks" pin set from WDW of the different park icons.

Maybe I'm wrong. Can any locals or WDW CMs answer?

oh sure drag in the smart guy, hehe, anyway the pins that come in the boxes that are sold in the disney store can be traded by themselves. each one is a character and they do stand alone. if they are part of a set to make up a whole picture (example the 2000 and the 2001 sets we used to sell at wdw)those had to be traded together because a 1 or a 0 made no sense by itself. so dont worry about anybody giving you greif about a pin trade, if that cm has any ?'s have them call pin central at epcot and ask to talk to a super pin trader, namely me. anyway i hope this helps you out with your ?, ttfn and happy trading.

I think maybe there might be some grief over it at DL/DCA, depending on the CM. (I would even wonder if it would not be accepted because of the smooth finish on the pin too.)
From my experience there last May in DL/DCA, and the small icon pins being a perfect example, the CM's would not accept 1:1 trades on those. (Although they often had just one on their lanyard.)
And this was more than several occasions.
One time I wanted a pin from a set they had on their lanyard. And all was well until I opened my mouth and made a comment about mine being from a set also. No go after that.
Out of several peeks at CM lanyards, I found one with it on their lanyard and they did a 1:1 trade.

I called the manager of our DS, after reading the comments here, and she is going to call the head office (she called it something else), but she said their rules are different from FL Disney, and very explicite. She said no set pins may be traded, except as a whole. She said their store bough the pins on their lanyards, and they don't start fresh each week. If they traded the $2 pins, there would be nothing of value that anyone else would want to trade, since they keep the lanyards form week to week. So, who knows, I may have wasted all the money I spent, buying a set for each grand.
