Looking for a route from Flint MI to WDW. We have always taken I 75 but wonder if another route may be advisable this year. AAA has issued an advisory of construction until June 30 in the Knoxville area. For those in the Knoxville area, is the construction affecting I 75 traffic? Our trip isn’t until January.

If you could possibly get by w/o a car, may I suggest flying out of Flint Bishop. You can get $89 flights direct to Orlando. There is an early am flight, you land just before ten, take the ME, and you are in the parks by 10:30. We have done this several times and never been disappointed. Of course I understand there may be circumstances which would require you to drive. Just a thought.

The construction around Knoxville can be hit or miss. We went through in late summer and didn't have an issue, unless they've expanded it since then. We got back a few weeks ago from WDW and I-75 through Georgia was my issue. Almost continuous construction the whole length of the state...definitely added time to our drive down.

Would love to fly, but we will be at WDW Beach Club Villas for the entire month of February and seeing that the Beach Club doesn’t have any legitimate “take out” facility like the Polynesian Resort’s Captain Cook's or The Contemporary Resort’s Food and Fun center. All the Beach Club has to offer is Hurricane Hanna's Grille with it’s limited menu. We are forced to drive to places like Coronado Spring’s Pepper Market :thumbsup2 to find a legitimate take out selection.

You might want to try posting on the transportation board. The trip tik I just got from AAA say construction but does not mention delays at least not in knoxville.

OT but I hate the new Trip tik. Not as nice as the old ones. I may see if the on line version is better.

The only other Route which we prefer is going over to Cleveland and taking 77 down to 95 to 4. Its a slightly longer trip but I think prettier. With the possibility of snow off lake Erie we are going the 75 route in Feb.

One alternative you might want to look into is taking 75 to Cincinatti and picking up 71 from Cinci to Louisville. Pick up 65 in Louisville and take that unitl Nashville, where you'll pick up 24 and head to Chattanooga. Once in Chattanooga you'll pick up 75 again, and you're on your way.

This is the route that I have taken for years, except that I pick up 65 in Indianapolis because I am starting in Muskegon. It is easy to follow, has worked well for me over the years, and doesn't go anywhere near Knoxville.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Take a look at 77 south to Columbia, South Carolina to route 26 over to 95.
(pleeeeeeeeease verify)

I'm guessing you could add 4-5 hours from Flint over to Akron, Ohio and you're another 18-20 from there.

We're flying this NOvember and shopping for tickets for next April. We drive unless I can by roundtrip tickets from Akron, Cleveland, or Pittsburgh for under $225 each.

The $89 tickets are alwasy blacked out when we need them.

Good Luck.

I've taken I 77 South but you do have to watch some of those mountains in the winter time - the roads can be quite slick - hope for warmer weather and you should be fine with 77 to 26 to 95 - seems a little shorter going that way too.

We have taken both routes from Ohio (75 and 77 - 95 to 4) and I felt that 75 was much faster but the other is a much easier less stressful drive.
I would be willing to drive you down and then drive you all around for your stay if you put me up for a month :rotfl:

Have used the AAA online Trip Tic program to evaluate the various options suggested routes. The route down 75 is almost identical in miles and time as is the 75 / 77 route. The route using 75 – 71 – 65 etc. is the longest by 45 miles and adds an hour to the trip. I would like to have a less stressful trip but in the winter perhaps I should stick to the old stand by.
Thanks all for the suggestions and the offers to do the driving but with all the “stuff” we take and bring back the car is full. ;)
