Is it expensive to get something framed there? I have a 10x13 pic of the kids that I need a frame for, but I can't find a single frame that has a matte that is large enough for that size. All of them seem to be matted to 8x10. I know they always have coupons in the paper, but how much does framing run there?

I had an odd shape picture and found a better deal at a local frame shop with a coupon in the paper than at Micheals, they were really expensive.

I am having the same problem with a 10x13. I went to Joanns with a 50% off coupon. For double mats, frame and glass the total was $120--with the coupon! :scared1: I couldn't believe it! Needless to say I didn't have it done. I plan to check out some local frame shops. After this though, I am going to stick with 8 x 10's.

Try the portrait studios - JC Penney, Target, Sears, etc. I was having a hard time finding a frame for 10X13's and I have since started buying them at the studios (JC Penny in particular)- they have them on sale pretty regularly and I think they were $20 or less.

I have bought several that size at the Picture People. They have lots of different color mats to choose from. The frame prices were pretty reasonable for a 10x13.

Michaels is incredibly expensive for framing, I don't even bother looking there anymore. You can frame a 10x13 in a 16x20 frame. If you look at Michaels or Target you can get a matte for that size, matted down to 10x13. Kohls also sells frames matted to 10x13 size, I have several that I have purchased from there that I am very happy with.

Good luck finding something!

I agree with the PP's. I had an odd shaped picture from San Francisco framed there. For a purple metal frame on a picture that was about 6X14 or so it was approx $50. More than we paid for the picture, but my DD really wanted it to match her room.

I agree buy a 16x20 picture frame and have a mat cut with a 10x13 opening. If you have a local frame shop check there. You should be able to choose the color of the mat and decide if you want a single or double one. WalMart carries 16x20 frames for around $20 dollars. If this is for a Christmas present you should order your mat early as this is one of the busiest times for frame shops. Can you tell I worked in a frame shop?

Thanks all! I plan to check out Kohls tomorrow since we are getting there bright and early! Hopefully I can find something :)

They can be expensive but do a fabulous job. DH bought me a canvas as WDW. We were going to get it framed and then shipped. WDW told us to just ship the canvas and get Micheal's to frame it. IMHO it was worth the money.

I know Michaels is expensive for framing, even with the discount. But what is nice is that if there is ever any damage to the frame or glass they repair it for free.

I don't know about Michael's but I have used Hobby Lobby and JoAnn's when they have their 50% off coupons. I think Hobby Lobby is comparable to our frame shops. I just did JoAnn's for the first time and about fell over when they priced it. Being lazy and not wanting to drag the kids to another store, I downgraded a lot and went ahead with it but will never again go to JoAnn's for framing. Unfortunately, they sucked the joy out of the project because now I'm settling for less than I want, hopefully when I pick it up I will be happy again. :goodvibes

I have found that our local frame shops always beat Michael's or Hobby Lobby's prices even with the coupon. They are usually faster and I feel good using a local business. They both do good work though and they are open late and on weekends so if that is a concern it may be more convenient.

Not so, at least not in my town. Our local frame store and Michael's were nearly the same price when I priced out framing a picture, the local store had a 15% off coupon but Michael's had a 60% off coupon (seems like every week's Michael's circular contains a % coupon, just wait because they do go higher than their often posted 40% off), so I went with Michael's. My picture is much much larger, but for OP's size, I totally agree to check out Kohl's. I got a decent frame and matted down just like others wrote when I had a 10x13.

Not necessarily true, I had a picture fall off the wall (the screw securing the wire to the frame popped out). The glass was basically ok (minor scratch that I wasn't too concerned about) but the frame split. I took the picture (a WDW poster print of Pooh) and the receipt back to Michaels and they refused to fix it! I tried as hard as I could (and believe me, it was hard!) to be civil and polite while I talked to the store manager and she refused to fix it for free. She said that the best she could do was give me a 40% discount to have it reframed since it was a repair. I then pointed out that their current framing sale was for 40% off and that she really wasn't doing me a favor! That didn't seem to matter to her.

After that incident I was sooooo ticked off that I refuse to walk into that store again.

I found one at Kohls for less than $20 and it's very nice looking and my pic fits perfectly. Thanks everyone! :)
