MIAMI (AP) -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick reluctantly surrendered a water bottle to security at Miami International Airport that smelled like marijuana and contained a substance in a hidden compartment.

Police said Thursday it could be weeks before a decision is made on whether to file charges.

"We'll do an analysis and see what it is. There's no sense of urgency to it," Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said Thursday.

The bottle was found to have a compartment that contained "a small amount of dark particulate and a pungent aroma closely associated with marijuana," the police report said. The compartment was hidden by the bottle's label so that it appeared to be a full bottle of water when held upright, police said.

Vick entered an airport concourse Wednesday morning with the 20-ounce bottle. His initial reluctance to turn over the bottle aroused suspicion among airport security screeners, a police report said. He eventually handed it over and boarded his flight to Atlanta.

:lmao: He should have done what other smugglers do... hide it in his OWN "secret compartment." :rotfl2:

weeks...no sense of urgency ???

would they handle it this way if it were you or me?????

"Ron Mexico" is in trouble again? I'm SHOCKED! :lmao:

ETA: A former girlfriend, in a lawsuit, alleges that Michael Vick used the alias Ron Mexico when he visited a clinic to seek treatment for an STD.

Also in a video game not licensed by the NFL(one of the BLITZ games I think), "Ron Mexico" was the scrambling quarterback of one the franchises with a very Falconesque logo.

How stupid are you NOT to know that they will confiscate a bottle of water at the airport? Was that a smart place to hide your stash??? Quel stupid!!!!

People are beginning to see what a turd he really is. First the STD thing and now this. A lot of people (including me) were dazzled by his abilities when he first turned pro and thought he would get better as time went on. It's becoming clear that he isn't the next coming of Steve Young and he not a complete QB. His passing skills aren't what they need to be and there's an old joke concerning him. Mike Vick has two plays in his playbook that he uses.

1. Run with the ball at all times, regardless of who is open

2. If option one isn't available, then dump ball off to tight end. :lmao:

HOW TRUE, you may as well hide your drugs in your gun case and carry it on.

Muy stupido:rotfl2:

This is really irritating, not because I'm a Vick fan (which I'm not), but because I am getting so tired of these athletes, these so-called roll models doing such stupid things.

How I wish there were more examples like David Robinson or Emmitt Smith for the kids to look up to.

Oh well, I suppose at least we should be thankfull that he was packing an illegal gun.

I am so sick of hearing his and his brothers name. Every freaking time DH has football on it's Michael Vick this, Marcus Vick that. UGH!

I have to agree there are plenty of bad guys currently in pro-sports (the Vicks being prime examples), but I really doubt the use of pot is anything new. What's new is every little thing these guys do making the news.

I suspect there is quite a few people in the resective hall of fames who did some funny stuff back in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. The difference was things used to be kept quiet more often than not.

When we were young there were definately some "bad guys", but they were usually known for being just that - bad guys. The majority of athelets kept up a really good public image. Nobody is suggesting that these men didn't have their vices and problems as well, but they sure knew how to keep it to themselves a lot better.
What irritates me more than anything is the attitude that so many of these stars have today. An attitude of "hey I can do what I want, and I don't care". I'm not saying that these men should necessarily be out building houses for the poor and needy every weekend, but is it asking too much to keep your dirty laundry hidden? Is it too much to ask them to remember that millions of kids are looking up to them as heroes, and that the things they do can affect the lives of many, many young people - both in a good and bad way.

I think the case could be made that in the past, the media helped them keep it to themselves. Now it's just the opposite.

IMO these guys have no responsibilty to be role models to kids. IMO if a kid is looking up to the wrong people, that falls on the parents.

Personally, I wouldn't mind my kid looking up to sports stars, but you can bet I would stress to look up to their performance on the field, and not trying to be who they are off the field. Very few are anything you would want kids looking up to off the field, and like I said, that goes waaay back.

I agree with Cardaway, there have always been "bad guys" in sports. But b4 Rodman very few off field activities made the press.

Same in Politics, JFK could not survive with todays press. Neither could J. Edgar Hoover.

There are still Great Role models in sports, but they are boring and dont get any press.

I've always felt that the newspaper guys of the past (since they were pretty much the only media in the past) drank & drugged with the athletes, thus they didn't write about it. And I also feel the same way you do about athletes as role models--admire their play, sometimes you can admire the man or woman-- but I think role models should be teachers, parents, grandparents, etc.

One of the best things that came out of 9/11 was a shift in the way many people thought. Suddenly Firemen and policeman were national heroes, men to look up to. Unfortunatetly it didn't seem to last to long, but for a while many kids had real heroes to look up to, men and women that they should want to model their lives after.
Sports stars, for the most part, don't deserve the hero worship they get (neither do most movie stars for that matter), but the fact is that they do have it. Why do kids want to be like Mike (Jordan)? Why does having Kobe Bryant sell your shoes mean you are going to sell thousands of more pairs?
Mostly because sports are something that most kids can relate to. Most kids play some sports, and when they see somebody playing that sport on a level that they can only dream of, suddenly that person becomes a hero, somebody to strive to be like. Again, they might not deserve such praise, but they sure do have it.
So I guess the question becomes, is this athlete now under some kind of expectation to keep his nose clean as a role-model to so many kids. Should he care if he's caught smuggling dope onto a plane? This same question has been asked many times before, by many different people, and every person seems to have thier own opinion of it. You say that they don't really have such an obligation. I disagree. I think that as representatives of their particular sport, they should do all that they can to improve the image of that sport, not drag it through the mud by such ridiculous actions like that of Vick. You also say that the media is working harder than ever to publicize the actions of these men, and you know what, you are right. So you know what that means, they should be even more careful, and work harder not to give the media what it wants to see. If I know that the media is trying to get me for something stupid, I should be even more careful with my public image, wouldn't you think?
Of course a parent has an obligation to watch out for his child, but if a kid watches sports (like many, many kids do) he is going to have his favorites - his heroes. Wouldn't it be nice to have a few more good ones out there?
