The father of the 13-year-old boy who accused pop legend Michael Jackson of molesting him in the early 1990s was found dead in his Jersey City home earlier this month - an apparent suicide - authorities said yesterday.

A Jersey City police spokesman said that Evan Chandler, 65, was found dead on his bed in Liberty Towers, a luxury condominium building at 33 Hudson St., on Nov. 5.

Chandler had a single gunshot wound to his head and the gun was still in his hand when cops arrived, police spokesman Stan H. Eason said.

Police were sent to check on the former Beverly Hills dentist when they received a call from a Bayonne doctor who was concerned because Chandler had missed an appointment, police reports said. The doctor, from Colanta Hematology, told police that Chandler had been extremely ill, reports said.

A doctor who answered the phone at the Broadway office yesterday declined to comment.

In the early 1990s, Chandler reported the King of Pop, who died this past June 25, to authorities in both Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, Calif., accusing Jackson of molesting his son Jordan, who was 13 at the time.

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office launched a probe and convened a grand jury to look into the sexual abuse charges. Meanwhile, Chandler and his son filed a civil lawsuit against Jackson. The case did not go to trial because the boy received a settlement of more than $20 million, according to published reports.

Evan Chandler and Jordan Chandler made news in Hudson County in 2005 when Jordan, 26 at the time, accused his father of hitting him in the head with a 12.5-pound weight and also spraying him in the face with a chemical irritant.

Evan Chandler was charged with assault and weapons charges, but those charges were later dropped.

On its Web site, the New York Post reported that Chandler was an aspiring screenwriter and had undergone several cosmetic procedures that had made him virtually unrecognizable.

Did you all hear that Evan Chandler commited suicide? He is the father of MJ's first "accuser", the one that got the ball rolling by it seems like encouraging his kid to make this false report and do anything he could to get money from MJ.

I read he killed himself last week...maybe the guilt of what he did? Maybe not, but it sure is sad for his loved ones I guess.

I read this last night on another MJ board. I don't believe it is a coincidence that he died the same year and only a few months after we lost our beautiful angel MJ. I believe that was Karma. What goes around comes around. I agree with you guys, I can't feel sorry for Evan Chandler after what he put MJ through.

Thanks for posting this website. Gavin and Jordy both need to come clean and tell the truth. Jordy no longer has his father to pressure him to keep quiet. Shortly after MJ's death there were rumors that Jordy had admitted he lied. I don't know that the rumors were ever verified but now he needs to tell the truth once and for all.

Unfortunately the rumors were a hoax, they were never verified

I dont think those scabby boys will ever come clean, well the first one anyway.... you know there was something written into the settlement that basically said he'd have to give back the money if he ever talked about it. And MJ would have to cough up more if he ever did... which is why he had some suggestive songs that gave us ideas that he felt ripped off and used by that family... that was th eonly way he could "talk".
