New Miceage update today. Here is a summary of the unfortunate update:

-WDW's Next Gen project is way over budget and way behind schedule. It's not pulling in the profits it was supposed to and the result is major cutbacks for WDW as well as the now very profitable Disneyland resort.

-Dozens of imagineers who were working on star wars and other big plans for Anaheim and its 60th anniversary have been told to stop the projects and have been reassigned to work on Shanghai Disney for the next 90 days.

-Budget cuts are to come out of operation budget for Anaheim.

-WDI budget put on hold for now, and all projects for existing parks except oriental land company owned Tokyo Disneyland and shanghai Disney have been stopped.

-Finding Nemo subs is the most expensive attraction to operate, and is also in need of repair. It is now on the schedule for "refurb" wich is more likely a permanent closure to save money.

Below is the status report of various projects:
-Star wars tommorowland:On Hold
-Monstropolis in DCA:cancelled
-Fantasyland dark rides reimagined:Hold
-Little mermaid reimagined:hold
-Soarin over California HD:still a go
-60th anniversary plans including parades and fireworks: hold

*DISCLAIMER* please note that miceage is a website that is not run by Disney. These are not official Disney announcements, but instead rumours and speculation written by a group of people who have insider Disney contacts.

Even though these aren't official announcements, it makes sense to me that most of it will turn out to be true.

I think it will affect regular visitors more than those who come once every year or two. Infrequent visitors/first time visitors are usually in awe of the Disney parks. It all feels shiny and new.

We were just there for 3 weeks and loved every minute we spent in the parks. DCA is great now. We spent several days there with no park hopping.

Even with no major changes in the next few years, I think Disney will still continue to attract fans in droves. Even on a rainy day, the park was pretty busy.

Before the gnashing of teething and rending of garments continues, let's remember just a few things that Hal Nutz has been wrong about:
  • ticketed Christmas party
  • Headless Horseman in Disneyland Halloween parade
  • removal of Astro Orbiters
  • Tron light cycles on People Mover track

Very true. I don't even bother to read his "updates" most of the time.

Wow that last paragraph makes me really look forward to our Sept 2014 trip....Not!

I actually am a daily reader of MigeAge, but when their bias shows strongest is anytime they talk about management. As a strategic leader in more than one organization it sets my teeth on edge. It reminds me of the worst mindset of an hourly worker who assumes all managers are overpaid buffoons, and never bothers to check reality.

How much of this alleged information is true or accurate. Anybody?

Judy I agree. I do not know the background of the folks at MA but suspect strongly that none of them has ever had any kind of senior managerial position and are almost as clueless about management as they claim Disney management is about the parks.

Easy. Zero. It is all rumor. Informed rumor. But rumor nonetheless.

With that said, MA does have a knack for getting insider info out ahead of anyone else. So an MA Disney rumor is more likely to turn out to be true than most other Disney rumors in my experience.

Scrolled down to the comments on their article. I found a reader accusing them of being wrong and just anti-Next-Gen. They have been very bipolar with things in recent months.

When accused of being wrong, one of the writers responded (and this is exactly copied!)
There’s nothing that we’ve gotten wrong. Disney changes things from time to time and we report on that. But that doesn’t make us wrong.

Take their work as you will. :thumbsup2

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I have a hard time believing that Disney management goes on the record saying they are looking at bringing star wars to the parks and then completely dumps the idea. Furthermore, I agree with those of you who point out the lack of a strategic viewpoint on the part of the writers.

We shall see I suppose...

Actually if it puts a halt to Fastpass Plus along the way, or significantly alters the direction that was heading...... there are a lot of folks on the WDW board who would be fine with it all. Well, most of it. ;)

Well the article never says they plan to jettison SW, at least at DLR. So far the only thing they say is that it's "on hold." It kind of sounds like any projects will be delayed a bit but not canceled outright. I have to believe that DL wants to have SOMETHING for 60th besides the Soarin update. That's a huge potential moneymaker for them.

..I would not be surprised to see a ticketed Christmas event next year. I don't know that I ever thought Monstropolis was a great idea, but something needs to be done with that odd area of DCA

If they are really not running the subs to save money, and no updates are being done...well...that is just wrong. I guess we see if there are actually any walls put up in January.
