Miami Hotel

I have looked on Hotwire and find decent rates....but the Hotwire fees are almost as much as the rooms! I found two rooms for $115 and the hotwire fee was $90. What's up with that?

It was on Hotwire. I went to better bidding and looked at the 4.5 star properties in downtown Miami and figured out that it was the Intercontinental.

How do you know what kind of room you'll get. Like is it King? Queen? It doesn't say.

We are staying at the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort in November. It's north of Fort Lauderdale near Boca Raton, rated VERY highly, located right on the beach, very reasonable, and surrounded by restaurants.

You picked a very good location. We were in Deerfield Beach for six nights last April for the first time and we were very pleased with the area. Great beach, nice restaurants. Easy walking.

We stayed at Tropic Isle. http://www.tropicislebeachresort.com
It is an "old Florida" style motel. One quarter mile south of Wyndham and the busy center of things, one block from the beach. Basic clean room, limited services, full kitchen so we don't have to eat out all meals. Our one week rate in early December is $475 - that's seven nights for $475. That the "summer rate" that is in effect until December 16.
This low cost beach week balances the cost of our four night verandah on the Magic.

Glad to hear it, thanks! I noticed that there is some sort of pier that juts out into the water just north of the Wyndham. Does anything special happen on/near it, or is it just for walking? Thanks.

You don't. Bed-type cannot be guaranteed. However,Hotwire, unlike Priceline, does allow you to book for 4 so you will have beds for 4 if you need them.

It is a long pier! We walked out on the pier as it was getting dark. The further we walked, the darker it got. I thought I was almost at the middle of the ocean. Of course, I wasn't!
Nice to walk on the beach at night, too.

International Fishing Pier
The 976 foot Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier is
the crowning jewel on our beach, attracting thousands of
visitors and fisherman annually. In addition to renting fishing
rods, the pier concession stocks live, fresh and frozen bait,
tackle, fishing accessories, ice and t-shirts.

  • Sightseers $1
  • Fishing $4
  • Rod Rental $15, plus $25 refundable deposit

At that rate, I suppose I don't care. It beats the pants off the $150 I was paying over at the Holiday Inn so I went ahead and cancelled the Holiday Inn and booked the Intercontinental. Thanks a bunch for the tip! :)

I think we have talked before about Disney before or after the cruise, and you are booked on the same end of November cruise on the Magic that we are on. :) I have been following this thread with interest as we are ready to book a Miami hotel before our cruise. We are actually at WDW before and heading down to Miami the day before we cruise. I have been hung up on the downtown, near the port hotels but not really thrilled with anything. I looked at your hotel and Deerfield Beach, and that actually looks much nicer to me than downtown Miami.

I was wondering what transportation you are using the morning of the cruise to head down to the port? How long do you think it will take from there?

We are hiring a van/driver to take us from the airport to Deerfield and then from Deerfield to the Port the morning of the cruise. I think it is about a 45 minute drive.

Thanks! I am looking into our logistics, and it looks like it might be tough. We rented car out of Miami airport before WDW and we were going to return it then shuttle to downtown airport and hire a driver to the port the next morning. Too bad for us. That looks like a great place to stay ahead of time.

I had reservations all set at the Intercontinental downtown, but when I found the Wyndham Deerfield, it was a no brainer. We have two little ones traveling with us, and I think 2 nights on a relaxing beachfront property would be preferred. To each, his/her own though, many would probably prefer to stay as close to the port as possible.

I will add that the only reason we are going down there two nights early is because the flights were so much cheaper on Friday than on Saturday. The difference paid for our extra night stay. If we were only staying one night, we too might prefer being close to the port.

Yes, that is a no brainer. My father-in-law is flying into Miami two nights ahead just in case he is dealing with winter weather delays in the Midwest. He would have to find a way down there a night ahead of us which might not be too easy. I just can't make it work but I will remember it next time. I will just have to suffer and just enjoy the ocean on the cruise. Haha.

I'm sure you'll have a very pleasant and entertaining stay downtown. Hope you enjoy it!

That's kinda what we thought! We are only staying the one night, plus I suppose double beds will get us used to the cruise cabin...lol!

Are you guys on the Nov 29th cruise? If so, that is our cruise as well.

We have stayed at holiday inn at the port. Nice hotel with great views. We paid 150 last year It is right across street from Marketplace which had lots of restaurants and bars. A fun place to hAng out. Taxi to port was 15 with tip.

I have a question for those who booked the Intercontinental Downtown Miami via Hotwire. The hotel that comes up at the top of the list of Hot Rate Hotels when I search for hotels in Miami, FL says "Downtown Miami area hotel," has a 4.5 rating, and is $85/night. Is that the Intercontinental? If I click on the "Hotels" tab, I can see the names of the hotels, but the price for the Intercontinental isn't much cheaper than what I can get on their web site if I'm willing to pay in advance and lose the ability to cancel. I currently have a bay view room with two double beds booked directly through Intercontinental. While I love knowing what our bed situation and view will be, the savings offered by Hotwire is definitely tempting!

There is never a guarantee with the Hotwire hot rates but if you go to the better bidding website, you can compare amenities and typically figure it out. In this case, the possible hotels for a 4.5 star downtown Miami are Intercontinental, Contad, 4 Seasons, and JW Marriot Marquis. I'm going to guess yours is the IC but honestly $85 for any of those is a steal!
