DH and I have decided to go as Captain Hook and Tinkerbell :) Now I'm trying to decide how to make these costumes look realistic, while using a modest budget, and for the Tinkerbell costume, Id like something that goes mid calf, and somewhat warm, so I won't need a sweater. Any ideas?

Some fabric and a sewing machine and you should be good to go. We are doing a seven member Peter Pan ensemble. My wife is ending up as hook, and our middle girl will be Tink.

Going to reuse the outfit she made for her back in 2011 (still fits her, she just doesn't grow).

Depending on how much time you have, you might be able to find something serviceable/modifiable at a thrift store.

In Disney's movies, Tinkerbell has had an array of outfits, though none of them have a calf-length skirt. You could try her fall or even winter outfit, though.

A poofy, girly skirt that's as long as you want might turn out really cute, whether you're going for a Disney look or not.

Or if you have any wiggle room on which Disney Fairy to be, some of the others have outfits with longer skirts. There is even a pirate fairy (I want her coat!).

go to Pinterest, search for Tinkerbell costumes or Tinkerbell disneybounding, you'll find a lot of good ideas. If I was to make a Tink costume I'd use a green corset and make a skirt from green tulle, but it wouldn't be long. lol

For good ideas that are budget friendly, check out the costumes (you can search the archives by character) on Disney Bound (on Tumblr). That site has very good outfits that are based on things you already own or could easily find.

Have you thought if trying to mimic Tinks winter outfit from Secret of the Wings? A shorter, felt skirt with leggings coupled with a "fur" trimmed hoodie?

Glad you posted this, I'm going as Tinkerbell also and DS (6) is Peter Pan. I'm not a sewer so I will need to purchase a costume but also don't want to spend a fortune on it. Then been thinking about how to stay warm since I know once the sun goes down it gets chilly!

Don't assume the weather will be chilly at night for the parties. October is a weird weather month for southern California. We've been to parties in the pouring rain and in weather so hot (85 degrees F at 10pm) that many people ditched their costumes altogether and just wore shorts all night. For us, it works best to have layers to our costumes so that we can add or subtract as needed.

THIS!!!! Many years ago (back when it was in DCA) we were at a Halloween party & it was soooo hot. I'm talking mid summer hot. It did not let up at all come evening. Even my kiddos makeup (witch & vampire, both under 9) melted off. A couple of years back it was quite muggy all evening as well.... So I totally agree that layers in a costume are a great idea. :)
