In preparation for the upcoming Halloween Season and Mickey's Halloween Party's, I thought it would be fun...and to get ideas rolling, to see what the best costumes you've seen at the MHP's in the past. Adults and Kids and Families alike!

I am desperately trying to get ideas for our family for our first ever MHP. I am so not creative! It's myself, DH, DS9 and DD7. We want to stick to Disney theme, and aren't going for any type of best costume award, but something a little different than Cinderella and Jack Sparrow. We are flying and can't have elaborate bulky costumes.

My search of ideas lead me to wonder what the best costumes have been in the past (Elaborate or simple). Even though we won't be going elaborate as I said, it's still fun to hear about what has been done and seen! Feel free to post pics if you have any.

I liked the costumes I did for my DD's when they were younger, for our first Halloween party they were Maleficent and the Evil Queen. :) The next year my youngest was a pirate and my older one was Constance from the HM, that year DBF and I were Hercules and Meg. We've only gone twice so that's our costume experience. The first year I was going to make Mousketeer costumes for DBF and myself but I ran out of time working on the girls stuff.

Oooo...great idea! We are still tossing around costume ideas as well. I look forward to reading the responses to this thread! :)

I have been to a couple of Halloween parties at DL and IIRC not many adults dressed up. My DD was a punk rock pirate one year and I don't remember what she was the other year. Maybe you can look into some movie with a male and female (not love interest) role then google it for more ideas. Unfortunately, if you're not creative you may have a problem executing multiple costumes.

DD has decided she wants to be the Cheshire Cat, they have a couple cute girly costumes.
DH and I aren't dressing up, but DH wants a Mad Hatter Hat, I thought about getting him just a "mad as a hatter" t-shirt to go with his hat.. So he'll be a little festive. DS9 can't make up his mind. He's fairly easy going. I asked if he wanted to be the White Rabbit from Alice, and he said he would (but I'm not convinced yet). Still looking for ideas for him. I don't want to dress up, but don't want to be a total spoil sport either, so I was thinking of just wearing the Queen of hearts tiara and a red tshirt I found that says "Off with their Heads" HA! I am so not into Halloween costumes!

Still would love to hear what others have done or seen. I'm always so impressed by what others come up with (since I don't have a creative bone in my body!) :upsidedow

That sounds really cute! Your DS9 can be a card, or the smoking caterpillar, or maybe the dormouse if the white rabbit doesn't trip his trigger.

Some of the neat costume ideas I've seen over the years...

Families/Groups: Incredibles, seven dwarves with Snow White, Alice in company, The Incredibles, Pirate Horde, Hitchhiking ghosts, Country Bears, etc.

Couples: HM Bride and Groom, various princesses with their significant others, Buzz and Woody, etc.

My all time favorite was a group that were dressed as the floats in the Electrical Parade!

The best costume I have seen was in a party picture from a couple years back (can't remember if it was this site or another Disney site that I saw it). Someone was in a wheelchair and they had a small round table with a tablecloth over it and their head was in a clear ball. Looked exactly like Madame Leota from HM!!!!!! I thought that that was the most clever way to incorporate being in a wheelchair and it looked fantastic!

I know that probably won't help your family situation, but if anybody is going to be in a wheelchair for the party, this would be an awesome idea.

If my friend and I go to MHP this year, we will be Belle and Red from OUAT. I am so excited!!!

I think the best ones I've seen have generally been secondary or obscure characters, instead of mainstream. We did Toy Story one year, and I swear I was the 473rd Jessie there that night. But my mom and dad were Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, and they got tons of compliments!

Here are some of my favorites that I've seen in the last two years I've been:

Flora, Fauna and Meriweather
Sorcerer Mickey and brooms
Gaston and the three silly girls (this one got picked to ride in the parade)
Haunted Mansion CMs (sort of like french maid and butler, but with green and black, like the CM costumes on the ride)
Mary Poppins and Penguins
Dr. Facilier (Shadowman from Princess and the Frog)
Carl and Russell from UP
Random characters on the space ship from WALL-E (wearing padded red jumpsuits, carrying giant soda cups)

We decided not to do the party this year, and I'm bummed because I had a great costume idea! I wanted DH and I to be Gary and Mary from the Muppets! Complete with Walter doll :)

I've seen some great costumes! My favorite was a ghost family last Halloween. Even the baby was made up as a ghost! They were Victorian and very amazingly attired.

Last year my family went as garden gnomes.

I love this!! You guys looked awesome! Thanks for sharing! :)

We have been to the halloween Party once at DCA and twice at DL. I think half the fun is making the costumes!!
We went 2010 as Alice in Woderland and 2011 as Pirates .
I would love to post pictures but havent done it in a while, can someone remind me how:confused3

Thanks!

I have seen dalmation groups, cute.

My favorite from th9e last few years was Toy Story Barbie and Ken, they looked exactly like the ones in the movie.

At DL a few years ago, we saw a large group dressed like German native people, Om Pa Pa, hard to describe, dresses on women, braids, men in liederhosen. Thry were SO funny and took an amazing group photo on Tower of Terror. They were laughing so hard, I wanted to hang out with THEM.

At WDW one year was a group of (hairy) men dressed as Tinker Bell. also funny.

I think costumes more elaborate at DL vs WDW, maybe because at DL they are mostly locals.

Love the pictures in this thread!

I saw great pictures of a little girl Sleeping Beauty with three women accompanying her dressed as Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather.

One rather popular group I remember was people dressed as the Main Street Electrical Parade. Lights really draw attention and I imagine they'd be pretty easy to pack...you could throw some into both kids' costumes.

I think a more "modern"/Tim Burton-style White Rabbit (or any other character) could be really cute. Though if your husband is wearing a Mad Hatter hat, I think you would probably need some headwear of your own. :goodvibes

My favorite costumes tend to be gender-swap, imagining what a certain character would look like if they were the opposite gender. Or human versions of animal characters.

Recently I saw a group of young women dressed as human versions of the main characters from My Little Pony. They looked fantastic.

Last year there was an amazing ghost family. Even the baby in its carriage. I also saw Jane from the animated Tarzan that was really well done.

Only been to MHP twice. First time, DD was 6 and she was Princess Leia (white outfit with the hair buns from Star Wars). That got a good amount of attention. And we happened to run into the Darth Vader and some storm troopers from ST in DTD. Second time, my friend had her DS with us then around 1 or 2. She was Cruella De Ville while her DS was a Dalmatian. They got a lot of compliments.

I'm also not very creative. I usually have the kids dress up and I just wear a Disney Halloween tee I pick up at Target. Last year I bought the Halloween ears / witch hat, too.

One of my favorites I've seen was a non-Disney idea. The adults were dressed as construction workers (jeans, white tee, orange vest and hat) and the little kids were dressed as orange cones - SO CUTE
