Is this show the epitome of a cheese-fest?

I have seen Beauty and the Beast live on Broadway twice and cannot image this show in MGM could be anywhere near as good. From what I have seen on the vacation planning video, it looks cheesy and the costumes look really bad.

I am sure child will want to see it anyway, but dad may need to skip it.

Well, we haven't seen it since '99 but we really enjoyed it then. Maybe we'll get back to it in June. I think I am the only person in the free world that didn't like the Hunchback show. So, take my likes with a grain of salt! :confused3

I haven't seen the Boardway version of Beauty and the Beast, but I've seen other Broadway musicals. The MGM version is my favorite show in WDW, but I don't think you can compare it to a Broadway musical. To start with, the MGM show is only a 1/2 hour long and it's mostly just singing the songs. There's very little acting, and the set is definitely amateurish. I think they do a great job with the songs though. I love the Beauty and the Beast music. My kids are scared of the movie, but the MGM show is not as frightening.

I've been to several Broadway shows (not B & the B), and no, you can't compare MGM's 1/2 hour show to a full Broadway musical, but it is cute. And even if it was pretty lame, I'd go back just for the pre-show! Last year was our first time seeing it, and Four for a Dollar was one of the highlights of our trip. My whole family loved these guys! Can't wait to see it again in October! :teeth:

A few years ago we saw Beauty & the Beast at MGM and DD4 and I loved it. About a month later we say the broadway show, and we actually preferred the one at MGM. We felt the broadway show dragged at times.

Thank you for the input. I am certain we will have to see it now. Besides, my princess will not let us leave MGM without going.

We, along with our kids, really enjoyed this show!! I don't think it's cheesy at all.

I say go,and you will be surprised how cute it really is. We loved it,and it's our favorite Disney show. As for the poster who said they think their the only one's to NOT like Hunchback? Your NOT alone!! ;)

The shorter version at MGM is better when you have kids, with their shorter attention spans. Also, the "theatre" where this is performed is open air.
During the summer it can get quite hot in there, you really don't want to be sitting through a long elaborate production with a full audience.

I did like the Hunchback show. We saw it right before it ended and I think the actors were really putting their all into it.

I saw Beauty and the Beast two years ago at MGM, the best bit was the pre show singers. They were very funny, can remember there name though.

If you're expecting to see a shorter version of B&B on Broadway, then you'll be disappointed. If you go in expecting a theme park version of the animated feature, then you'll probably enjoy it. Remember that the two shows -- Broadway and WDW -- were designed for totally different purposes.

The Broadway version is a Broadway-caliber show, with a budget to match. It's performed seven or eight times a week in an indoor, state-of-the-art Broadway theatre.

The WDW version is a 22-minute theme park show that is performed five or six times a day in an outdoor, open-to-the-elements theme park theatre.

You can't expect them to be the same experience.

:earsboy:

PS. The pre-show group is called "Four for a Dollar."

We made a point to see it this year and my 9 month DD#2 LOVED it. She stood on my lap and clapped her hands. (Not that her review means much considering she slept thru Philarmagic) I thought it was a well done compliation of the songs. Costumes were bright, but so was the animated version.

I agree about the pre show.
When I first saw it I wondered what the hell was going on, but it was great singing along to "Oh What A Night".
Hope they are still on..........

Do you know if 'Four for a Dollar' have a website we I could listen to some of there music, I cant find it on Google!

I believe you can buy their CD's?

I would assume so - after their performance, they gave a copy of their CD to a little girl who was celebrating her birthday.

My daughter loved the beauty and the beast show at MGM. Yup, it is just a quick run thru of the story, with a few songs, but I can honestly say this was the one time my daughter sat still for more than 15 minutes at a time. She was really into it...

This show is WONDERFUL!!! I made DH watch it with me on our trip in May, afterwards he had to agree that it was a GREAT show!! Four for a dollar was there also GREAT!! :cool1:

I agree with "crzy4mk." I love the pre-show and enjoy the music from B&B. I try to see the show every trip.
