We are planning on heading over to Downtown Disney after Fantasmic. What would be the fastest way?
I don't think there is a direct route, so should we go to a resort then to DTD? Which resort do you think we should switch thru? Anyone have good suggestions?

I would think your fastest way to do this would be to walk to the Swan and Dolphin after Fantasmic (forget the boat the line will be a mile long). Catch a bus from thier to DTD.

Good luck!

How long do you think that might take? From the gate of MGM to DTD probably 40 minutes you think?

Really? I thought there were buses from all the parks to DTD, just not busses from DTD to the parks?

Now, if only I could find my transportation guide from my last trip :o

Maybe someone else can say for sure.

As of right now, there is a direct bus from the Disney-MGM Studios to Downtown Disney.

A few things to note about this bus:

  • This route is a test route, and is not guaranteed to be available at all times.
  • The Studios is currently the ONLY park that offers this service.
  • It is a ONE WAY trip only There will be NO return busses to any theme park.
  • The bus stops at Pleasure Island only.

I hope they are still running this route when we are there in October 11-14th.
How will I be able to find out if they are running this route when I get there?

Best to just ask when you get to hotel (and when CM at resort front desk you talk to really has no idea ask CM to check with higher authorities). If not available, fastest route is actually to walk over to BoardWalk (15 minute walk) and catch bus to Downtown Disney from there rather than Swan/Dolphin; both resorts are 15 minute walk from MGM but bus to DD goes from Swan to Dolphin to YC to BC to BW then to DD; thus you want to catch it at BW to miss all the resort stops.

Never ask a front desk person about transportation. Or any other non-Transportation cast member. While they mean well, most often times they give out wrong information, through no fault of thier own, but just because Disney Transport is so dynamic, and changes all the time. When in doubt, ask a Bus Driver, Monorail Pilot, or Boat Captain.

As for catching the bus at the last stop... in this particular case, there is a seperate Boardwalk bus, so your advice would work. Otherwise, personally, I'd recommend the first stop. Yes, you may have to sit through a few other stops, but that's the keyword... SIT... if you board at the last stop, you run the risk of having to stand, or worse yet, having to wait for the next bus if this one is full.
