I'm just wondering because i haven't heard anyone talk about it, is the Backlot Tour still open at MGM? This was one of my favorite things to do and i'm looking forward to it this year...

We were there 8/11-8/21 and it was functional! We could see the flames and water from Catastrophe Canyon while watching Lights Motors Action!

I rode it last week. They have some old props and Catastrophe Canyon. There are some Star Wars and Indiana Jones vehicles, and the skull-ball from Pirates. I missed seeing the Golden Girls house (DMom was surprised when DSis and I told her GG was all the rage among college students). We walked right on, but I wouldn't wait more than 10 minutes for it.

i'm glad to hear it's still open - for some reason i'm really looking forward to it!! :thumbsup2

Yes, it's still open but, this attraction has lost some luster after Residential Street was removed and now you pass by a HUGE outdoor show set for the Stunt show.

Also, I love seeing the props from such famous movies, such as Star Wars, but, it is A SHAME that they let the stuff sit out like they do.

Many of the props look as if they were just dropped off there, and never have been touched (which may actually be the case).

These things (in my opinion) should be restored and put back to their original quality and kept up with on, AT LEAST an annual basis.

The way things have been left, it pretty much looks like a junk yard back there.

Backlot Tour is kind of a fizzle IMO. Just wondering... what do those of you who like it enjoy most about it? Maybe I can keep my eyes and mind open and find something new next time around.

Zippa, your avatar is my hero! As a former Charlotte/Concord resident.....GO PANTHERS!

I used to love the Backlot tour, but after they have shortened it, taken out residential, and removed a lot of the props it has become a letdown. I still like to go through it to see the Costume and Props workshop but thats the highlight of the tour.

The props from Star Wars and stuff are in what movie studios call the bone yard. Most film props are destroyed or reused in other films after production wraps on the film, so getting to see what we do see is nice.

My favorite thing I understand is still there, though I haven't had a chance to see it in many many years . . . the ship from Flight of the Navigator!

People are mentioning Star Wars things . . . did they move the ships that used to be in front of Star Tours out there?

Do they still go through the prop/costume dept near the mini earful tower? I've only done it once since they re-openend and remember it not living up to my expectations, but cannot remember what all was removed.

I remember that . . . specifically seeing a couple of stormtrooper costumes up on shelves and the book from "Hocus Pocus!"

My favorite thing to do is the Pearl Harbor remake. I've been chosen to participate twice, and I must say, I am quite the ham. It is my goal to make those people laugh, and laugh they will.

:thumbsup2

I agree...I was a bit disappointed after reading about it. Maybe my expectations were too high but I thought there would be a lot more to it.

I think they should just change the name to Catastrophe Canyon and be done with it. Trying to keep the pretense that it's still a functioning movie studio, or that they have anything of substance to show back stage, just doesn't cut it any more.

Did anyone else notice the lovely display window that now looks into the Lights, Motors, Action tire storage room? How exciting... NOT!
