MGM Sit Down Restaurants

We just tried Mama Melrose for the first time last week and were pleasantly surprised. I had heard good things about it and they were right. We had the ceasar salad, grilled chicken flatbread and the shrimp, artichoke and pasta dish. All were very flavorful, but that flatbread was really great. We really liked the atmosphere, too!!! :flower:

I've eaten at three:

50's PT - consistently great food, huge portons, fun environment esp for families, service has always been good but you may or may not get a playful waiter. Point is that you're at mom's house and are supposed to be treated as such but some waiters dont' get into the act. Can be disappointing if you want that, others are relieved they aren't picked on. We've loved the homecooking here regardless

SciFi - for lunch, it's a good burgers and shakese place. For dinner, DH had a good shrimp pasta but my catfish was very bland. Environment is VERY cool, best themed restaurant at the World IMO, you sit in cars and watch movie clips. It's not set up for conversation, though - course our family always found that to be a nice change from trying to converse with each other for yet another meal. Relaxing, quiet, and always had good service.

Brown Derby - we were SO impressed with our meal here about a month ago for dinner. The food was so good, restaurant is beautiful. It's a more relaxing, upscale environment compared to the other two. We were there a good 2 hours and took our time. Food was delicious and service was good.

Good luck, hope that helps!

We ate at 50's Prime Time and had a really fun waitress (she called herself cousin Mary) and our meal was really good and just loved the kitchen decor and layout. Everyone gets their own kitchen with a tv playing oldies sitcoms. Just a really fun atmosphere. Great for lunch or dinner. :)

Also tried the Sci-Fi for lunch. Had a burger which was a really good one and really enjoyed the BLT soup...YUM ! I heard alot of things on the menu are really not worth the price, but if your looking for a sit-down lunch I recommend the burger and the soup. It's also a really neat setting. :)

Had the Fantasmic dinner package at Hollywood and Vine buffet for dinner. We absolutely loved the choices, a very large variety and my DH is very picky yet he found plenty to enjoy. Food was very good. Also had a really cute atmosphere. :)

Haven't tried Mama Melrose's or Brown Derby yet, but heard both are wonderful, just a bit higher priced than the others, but I'm sure well worth it.

I guess it depends on what type of atmosphere you're looking for ( or if your taking children) and what you're willing to spend. Whichever you choose I'm sure you'll enjoy! :wave2:

If you're going with children, then I highly recommend Sci-Fi. My kids' love it. I've read bad reviews about the food, but honestly can say that we've liked the food there.
It's not a gourmet meal, but the atmosphere is really neat.

50's Prime Time and the Brown Derby are the 2 I would choose from.

If it was lunch, I'd go with the 50's Prime Time ( have the adult milk shake... oh yeah!!) and for dinner, I'd go with the Brown Derby.

Brown Derby. The Cobb salad and grapefruit cake are excellent. They also have an excellent pork entree.
Plus it's a nice looking restaurant--.

We have been to 50's Prime Time and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Our "cousin" waiter was great fun and the food was good "home cooking."

We are trying Sci-Fi for lunch on our upcoming trip. We had PS's there for our last trip but decided not to go there due to many poor reviews. But we are excited about trying it this time .... my 7 yo DS is excited about the atmosphere and i am looking forward to a burger and shake! I am not expecting a gourmet meal, but a cool (both interesting and 'not hot' ~wink~) experience!

Brown Derby is my favoriate. The atmosphere is nothing special but the food was very good when I went last year. The Cobb salad was awesome and the grapefruit cake was out of this world and I don't even like grapefruits.

Sci-Fi Dinner - Stick with lunch. Burgers and stuff like that is all you should eat there. We went for dinner last year and it was the worst food I have ever eaten. They had no business serving this stuff. In fact we had to eat something else after we left. I was so upset about my experience there that I put a thread about it on the restaurant board. Also, the waiter we had was awful. However, the atmosphere at this place is really cool. If you stick with burgers and that type of stuff - it is good. That is what I had the year before and I liked it.

50s prime time dinner - good food and fun atmosphere. The waiter we had was the funniest waiter in the place. It was a great time and a memorable experience. However, if you do not want to get bothered by the waiters and want a quiet meal, this is not the place.

Hope this helps.

One more vote for the Brown Derby! The 50's PT is fun too-my biggest complaint is the wait time there sometimes can be long.

We have eaten at Mama Melrose once on each of our last 8 trips. We will be going back againin July. Obviously, we like it very much. :)

We've eaten at all of the sit down restaurants at MGM and the only ones I would go back to are the Brown Derby and Hollywood & Vine. We had an ok experience at Mama Melrose, and downright bad experiences and the Sci-Fi (horrible service, icky food) and Primetime (nasty food).

We just tried H&V for the first time this past weekend and I was really impressed. Great variety of food, everything tasted delicious, and the service was pleasant. It doesn't have a lot of Dinsey atmosphere, but it's probably the best deal in that park.

I enjoy Mama Melrose and Brown Derby. MM is a must do each trip and sometimes more than once.

We've never tried Sci-Fi but people I trust have told me not to bother.

H&V and Primetime are not our cup of tea so I doubt we'll be going back.

MGM doesnt have anything to brag about in terms of meals, but wehave to eat so we prefer Mama Melrose to any of the other sit downs at MGM.
