Which restaurant would you suggest for dinner at MGM? I'm not sure I want to go to 50's Prime Time again. We've done it the last 3 years. Brown Derby looks interesting, DD wants to go to Sci-Fi (have not heard great things about dinner there), haven't heard anything about H&V, Mama Melrose's I'm not sure about. Italian food here in NY is great, not sure how it would measure up. If there's a resort close to MGM with a great restaurant we'd also have no problem going there. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks :sunny:

Sci-Fi is good if you stick to the simple things - burgers and such. We've done MM for the FDP and the food was great. I plan on doing that one again next trip. I've eaten at MM for lunch and dinner and have always had a good experience. I have never eaten at the Brown Derby, so I can't commen on that one.

We usually do the H & V FDP and have always enjoyed it. We've had 2 not so good meals at Sci-Fi, but we do love the ice cream desserts. Thinking
about trying BD in June. I've had the grapefruit cake at Starring Rolls. It's yummy!!!

We love the Brown Derby as well as 50's PT (that's hubby's new favorite simply for the shakes!)....!

Brown Derby is our favorite MGM ts for dinner. Sci-FI is our favorite for lunch. I have heard though that you can order off the lunch menu for dinner. They have great burgers! If you just want a simple meal (burgers, fries, shakes etc.) I would go for Sci-FI. If you want a good meal go to HBD. ALso HBD is a Fantasmic dinner package restaurant if you are looking to see Fantasmic that night.

We have eaten at least once at each of the five table service restaurants in the Studios. It is a bit difficult to rank them, but in general I'd recommend them in the following order:

(1) The Hollywood Brown Derby, (2) Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano, (3) 50's Prime Time Cafe, (4) Hollywood & Vine, (5) Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant.

Enjoy.

We ate at and enjoyed Brown Derby (I think it takes 2 TS credits at dinner) and Mama Melrose (Italian).

my mom had the rebuen it was terrible :sad2: ... my dad had steak sandwich good :) ... my older brother had hamburger pretty good :) ... I had ribs
that were HORRIBLE :furious:

This summer we tried Hollywood and Vine and were extremely pleased with the food, the less "themed" atmosphere, and the service. There was something for everyone, and the kids loved their separate buffet and the massive selection of pretty desserts, which were small so you could easily try several without feeling sick or wasteful. We'll definitely go back.

We also tried Mama Melrose this December and were also pleased. The food was not spectacular, but very good. We split a Caesar salad for a starter, and the waiter pre-split it for us without us asking. We were both satisfied with the half-size. The atmosphere here is fun and relaxing, and seems "off the beaten path."

The only place we have eaten at MGM where we were disappointed was Sci-Fi, but that was a decade ago, so who knows.

We LOVED Mama Melrose and it's a steal on the dining plan as 1 credit with the Fantasmic package. Loved our flatbreads, salads were great and the main course good, desert, FANTASTIC. We're returning this year. we did H&V the year prior w/ the Fantasmic package, weren't impressed with the food but we're not huge buffet people and we were bitter because Fantasmic was rained out and we had spent a lot of money on an o.k. meal and didnt get to see the show that trip so it may have tainted our oppinions. Love 50's prime time. Don't like Sci-Fi, atmosphere is great but the food isn't. Could go for desert though, those are good!

My family and I have eaten at all full service restaurants in MGM. This is my favorite park for eating at F/S but hate the C/S.

Hollywood Brown Derby is very good-haven't been in about three years though. Love the atmosphere and the service. I had the chix which I loved!

Hollywood and Vine-Nothing special in my opinion but good basic food in a non-themed atmosphere.

Mama Melrose-My favorite!! I had the flatbread and steak-which was real yummy!!!

Sci-Fi-Stick to the burgers fries and shakes and you won't be dissapointed. The atmosphere is great-esp for kids. Must do each trip!

Prime Time Cafe-Love the fried chix, pot roast and pot pie. The atmosphere is great if you are willing to get into the part.

I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you choose. Read the menu's and go from there!!!

From a fellow Long Islander, I think you'd really enjoy Mama Melrose. Having said that, keep in mind we have never eaten at Brown Derby or Hollywood and Vine. We've eaten twice at Sci-Fi -- both times for lunch. It is strictly a burgers/fries/shake kind of place.
We've had dinner twice at Mama Melrose and lunch once and -- as an earlier post said -- the food is not great, but very good, very satisfying. It also is a nice break from "Disney" -- meaning it looks like a nice Italian restaurant you'd see anywhere -- including LI. Lots of brickwork inside -- a nice atmosphere.
Like you (and not to be snobby, hope everyone else doesn't take this the wrong way) but we were concerned about "ethnic" restaurants at Disney because there are so many in the NY area. But turns out we loved the German food and Biergarten and really enjoyed Mama Melrose. Slightly different than you might expect -- but very good.
Have fun whatever you choose!

You really must try the eatery first and be your own judge. You can ask 5 seasoned WDW travellers the same question about food and get 5 totally different answers. We've done them all--some become traditions and some are one-shots. From a veteran WDW family our traditions are: Sci Fi for lunch (and the truly unique Disney experience), Mama's for lunch and/or dinner (yummy and relaxed), one-shots: Hollywood and Vine (yuck) and 50's (again, nothing special to us and we didn't like the "etiquette" lessons after a long hot day at the Park). I'd do Brown Derby in a minute, but the menu doesn't appeal to the rest of my family. My advice: Just Do It...then make your own decisions. :cool1:

Brown Derby!!!!
Excellent food, great service... :thumbsup2
Sci Fi is better for lunch. The food was good, service etc., but for a "real" dinner, BD is a better choice.

If you do feel like leaving MGM, then the closest resorts are: Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club and Swan/Dolphin.

Each would be a 15-20 minute walk from MGM

or a ride on one of the pleasant boats.

If you're looking to get out of the parks a big, each of these places have great dining options as well.
