Right now we are planning on going to MGM on Sunday 10/1 in the hopes of avoiding crowds at MK due to the new promotion beginning. Right now as I look at our Must Sees list I'm wondering if this is even going to take a whole day?
We are travelling with a 6 mo. old, a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old and this is the must see list:
Muppet Vision
Playhouse Disney
Stars/Cars parade
Lights, Camera, Action Stunt Show.

That's it, that's all the boys have really shown interest in. They can't do the Honey I Shrunk Playground due to height restrictions. While I would like to see Beauty and the Beast they aren't really interested.

So I'm wondering if with our Must See list is this only going to take half the day?

Honey Playground is geared toward preschoolers. Disney's website doesn't list a height restriction (or an age restriction, for that matter). :confused3

In the unofficialguide it cited height restrictions (max height) which would make my 4 yr old too tall for that area.

Yeah, I'd say a half day.

When we went to MGM last October we got there at park opening and did the following:
- Playhouse Disney
- Muppet 3D
- ToT (child swap)
- RnRC (child swap)
- Great Movie Ride
- brief time at Honey I Shrunk Playground (my son didn't like it)
- stopped to meet characters, take pictures, etc.
- ate lunch

All that and we were out by 1:00 pm.

Robo--thanks for the link to the movie clip, I loved it, my baby loved it but the other two kids just kinda went "uhh ok" and took off to play. I think I may pull the 'mean mommie' and tell them tough, we're going! Mommy wants to see it, we're doing a lot of 'boy' stuff and Mommy needs a little girlie stuff too! Just to embarrass them I may even try to find a princess tiara and wear it. I wouldn't be doing my parental duties if I don't embarrass my children at least a little bit! :teeth:

We plan on being at MGM at opening, maybe if we finish early we'll head over to DTD. Or if it's as hot as I'm seeing Accuweather say it will be we'll head for the pool!! I just know that no matter what we MUST stay for the parade because the kids have seen photos of the parade and are very excited about it! :Pinkbounc That and the Power Rangers. Must see at least one Power Ranger! They aren't hard to find are they? I mean they aren't like some of the 'rare' characters to be out?

Hmmmm....I would be skeptical about that height restriction. The area is geared toward youngsters and I've seen them as old as 8 or 10. Unless your 4 year old is the size of an adult (though I've often seen adults wandering around 'playing' a bit!), Honey is aimed directly at him or her!

I wonder if you may be getting it confused with another area? Or if it's a mis-print. Disney's site (and this one) do not list any height restrictions, certainly none that make a 4 year old too tall!

It could be a misprint but I'm also concerned because I've heard that it can be hard to keep track of your youngster in that area, is there only one way in/out for it?
I'm physically disabled so I wouldn't be able to climb too much to keep up with them and DH is able to but we also don't want him to get 'stuck' :goodvibes
My bil said that his autistic son loved it but found it to be a parental nightmare because it was hard to keep his 'sights' on his son.

I've been w/ ds6 and dd3. I would add to your MUST See list:

Star Tours (no motion option) It's a great little flick and the CMs are very happy to load a car w/ just your family (and other families nearby who want to experience the ride w/out the motion.

Little Mermaid. this is NOT a little girl show. It follows the movie storyline but w/ all the neat underwater sea songs, the spooky Ursala, and flotsam and jetsam it is very little boy oriented. DS has loved this show for several yrs.

Indiana Jones. Personally, I think this show is more exciting for kids than the LMA! car show. It really held my kids' attention.

Backlot Tour. THe intro w/ the water/sea battle is cool...but the tram ride through Catastrophe Canyon is the best. We sat dd1, and later 2.5 on the right side so she didn't get wet at all. dh and ds were more to the left where the real action is so they got misted a bit and loved it.

Beauty & the Beast. We have tried this twice, just too slow moving for our gang. :confused3

MGM is a full day for us mostly b/c we LOVE LOVE LOVE the parade (which is now earlier at 3pm) and b/c we NEVER miss Fantasmic! Kids love it!!!!!!! We take a long leisurely lunch at Sci Fi, enjoying the cool and the flicks...and have dinner at H&V w/ a FDPkg so we get saved seating at Fantasmic. We usually hit Star Tours and Little Mermaid more than once.

As for the playground. The one at MGM is recommended for older children as the objects are large and hard for little ones to climb around on. It is definitely NOT like the ones at MK which are preschool oriented. This yr ds7 will be just perfect for it...and dd4 will be able to do many of the things, but will probably need some help from her brother to climb into/over others.

Another thing we do at MGM is shop...and pin trade! There's great trading at this park and we just find it a very relaxing day. When you're not doing the 2 biggies TOT and RnR...you find yourself in other areas of the park that are practically empty. It's really nice.

If I remember correctly (and I think I do :thumbsup2 ), there is only 1 way in and one way out of the playground. The first time we went my youngest was 4 1/2 years old and my middle was 7 and my oldest was 9 and the ALL played in there and they were definitely not the oldest. I would have more concern for the 2 year old. MGM is actually my favorite park and I think you may end up spending more time there with the shows then you may think

Have a great time.

My DD and DS went in Honey I Shrunk the Kids and played. She was almost 7 and he was 18mos. They had a blast in there, but it was crazy. I even went down one of the slides with my DS. If I didn't have 2 extra people with me I would have lost track of them.

Uh oh... what promotion?

We're in MK 1st Oct... is it gonna be REALLY busy?

The Year of a Million Dreams starts on that date and it's still not clear on exactly what will happen on that day in the park but some have speculated that it may be busier than a normal day. Also some have suggested that at opening only one family will be opening each area of the park as they ride each ride as a family. So if this is true, the rest of us will have to wait longer to get into the areas of the park. But let me stress that this is rumor and speculation I do NOT know if it is true.

But after considering the chances of there being a whole lot of extra people because of the new promo and the uncertainty of how it is being handled in the park on that day and it is our ONLY day at MK we decided to switch our park days and go to MGM on the Sunday instead and MK on Saturday.

Though I wouldn't mind adding the Hopper Option and Hopping over to MK at night on Sunday to see if the fireworks change to fit the new promo. Plus it's EMH hours for Mk that day...we'll see. Just wish they'd make it clearer just what the plans are for that day.

To the OP -
Your kids would be fine in the playground, and they would have a blast! It does get crazy, and watch out for some of the rough-and-tumble bigger kids - they can get carried away, and run into the little ones. Make sure to have them find, and scratch, the dog nose!
One thing that my boys love (they are DS6 and DS10) are the *glowing* ice cubes that they have - we got ours at lunch at 50's Primetime! Keeps them occupied for awhile!
My boys also enjoy Indiana Jones, although it can get loud!
At MGM, we always seem to run into tons of characters, so that adds a fair amount of time to our day!
Enjoy your trip with those adorable boys of yours!

The one thing I would keep in mind is that asking boys if they want to see Beauty and the Beast or Little Mermaid is like asking them to wear a dress.

But, keep in mind there are other characters, special effects, etc. that make these must sees (think Sebastion, Luminare and so on). The bubbles in the little mermaid attraction will make it worth it on their own....trust me on this.

The Great Movie Ride is another pretty good ride with the kids. Although you may have to hold their ears during the tommy gun firing.

Also, if your boys are Cars crazy like mine, there usually do meet and greets on NY Street or in front of the stunt show with Ligtning and Mater.

If they like Mushu they might enjoy the Animation tour- and the interactive exhibits at the end are really fun too.

I forgot about this...DS8 and I both enjoyed this also.
