Newbie here again! Going to Disney World in October...was going to spend entire day at Animal Kingdom, but after hearing HEAT horror stories, am only planning on morning. So, that frees up some time. Was going to skip MGM altogther (as I'm not a movie buff), but thought maybe we could just go to the Backlot Tour and the Muppets Show (as I LOVE the Muppets!). Just wondering how big the park is....will we be able to get "in and out" within a few hours?

I think it is worth a half a day. The muppet show is quite cute! Ofcourse the tower of terror and the roller coaster are a must. It is not a big park at all but a quick 1/2 day walk around is worth it. Like I have said in other threads, I will be skipping it this trip because my kids weren't overly impressed last time and we will be doing Universal instead!

You can easily do MGM in half a day. Obviously you'll only have time to do the must-sees, but man you MUST SEE THEM!

You will love Tower of Terror, and as a fellow Muppet fan, I highly recommend the show. Make sure you bring your camera because outside the show is possibly one of the best water features at WDW! :)

You'll have a great time.....

Yes I would NOT miss, do it for the afternoon until evening so you can cath Fantasmic! We normally do AK in the morning until lunch, safari has to be done first thing. Then we do MGM, you can't miss Muppets, TGMR, Who wants to be a Millionaire, Backlot Tour, TT, and now the new stunt show...

We plan to go around 4, catch a few shows, have dinner, do a few rides, and see Fantasmic. That will be plenty for us.

My DD and I do exactly what you've asked about. We go to AK in the morning, not so much to avoid the heat, but to be able to quickly do our 'must see's', have lunch at Rainforest Cafe or Tusker House, then head to MGM for the afternoon/early evening.

MGM is small, and is definitely do-able in half a day. At MGM, we do the Muppets, Rock N' Roller Coaster, the Great Movie Ride, and sometimes the Backlot Tour, although we may skip the GMR this time. It will depend on the heat. It's the perfect ride to sit and take a load off!

I'd say give both parks half a day.

You have to love how opinions can vary so much. I'm headed to the World at the end of August for an 8-day trip. I'll spend at least two days at MGM. I love it.

MGM is a must DO!!! If you plan out what you Have to see then you can certainley get through it in 1/2 a day.! Have fun.

We love MGM...and Fantasmic is a must. :cheer2: :cheer2: We spend more time at MGM than we do at AK. Don't miss it though, don't have to be a movie buff.

I would also say don't skip it. I would have to add that Beauty & the Beast is a do not miss either if you like live theater at all. I described it to my friends/family as a Broadway show because the talent and production is that good!!!!! I hade 2 DD's but I would see it again (and every time we went) even without them.
Assuming you don't have kids because you didn't metion them but Voyage of the Little Mermaid and Payhouse Disney are 2 other DON'T MISSes.
Enjoy!

Yes - do MGM! Check the times of the Lights, Motors, Action stunt show too. It is well worth seeing.

MGM is the smallest of the parks, so getting around it is very easy.

MGM is our least favorite park. To us, if you've done it once, you've done it enough. Of course, we LOVE Rock N Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror. For us, it has become a half day park. If you've never been there before, I think you should plan for a day there. A lot of the opinions you will read here are from people who have been to WDW over and over. After you've been a couple times you start to stop going to the things that aren't your favorites. I think you need to look at a guide book and see what there is to offer at each park or even find someplace online. Then you will know what appeals to you. If you have little kids, you'll want to do Playhouse Disney. This is something that I've seen enough, but if my daughter wants to go, we'll go again. I think it is a small park, but a lot of what you are doing there are show type things. So, it will take time.

As far as Animal Kingdom goes I remember going for the first time in September. It was so hot. I remember that. I quit doing my hair, because it didn't make any difference. I remember thinking that I didn't even want to go to Animal Kingdom. I was going to skip it. We decided to head on over and just check it out for a couple hours. We ended up spending an entire day there. I don't remember being horrible hot. I just remember loving the atmosphere there. I loved the attention to detail. And, they have some fun shows that you don't want to miss.

My opinion, is that you should keep yourself open to be able to enjoy more than a morning if you so choose to do. And, more than half a day at MGM if you choose. If you get done with the parks earlier, then you have free time on your hands.

I totally agree. My family and I just can't go to WDW without seeing the Muppet show at least once and DH and DS have to do ToT and RRC. We usually spend a half day in the afternoon so that we can see Fantasmic that night. It alone is well worth the time.

December '05 CBR here we come!!!! :Pinkbounc  :cheer2:

I'll be traveling with my 73 year old dad, so the heat is a big issue for us. Actually, Animal Kingdom looks the most interesting to me out of all 4, but I don't want to push it. I have the Frommer's book and have read everything on Deb's board, so kind-of figuring out which attractions sound interesting. Definitely WON'T be doing TOT or Rock-n-Roll Coaster - can't handle the stomach churring rides!! Of course, maybe we'll luck out and have cool weather the first part of October!

Thanks to all for the advice...this is a such a great board!

I think MGM is a hot park (almost as hot as AK). But I wouldn't skip it, just go later in the day. Don't miss Beauty and the Beast! And Fantasmic is awesome.

I guess when I posted on the heat, I don't remember one park being hotter than the others. I did just see where you are traveling with your father. So, some of the shows at MGM might be fun for you guys. You can see the story of Walt Disney, which my parents loved, and I've never been interested in that. You would skp the Playhouse Disney Show (lucky you). But the Little Mermaid show is fun to do once. There is the Muppet show like you said. There is the Great Movie Ride, Beauty and The Beast, Backlot Tour, the new stunt show, Who Wants to Be A Millionaire - Play It, and Fantasmic. So that is a lot to keep you busy. The 50's Prime Time Cafe might be fun for you guys too.

In Animal Kingdom now that I know you won't be doing a lot of the rides (most of the rides there are spinning) you can probably get it done in half a day. Just make sure to stop and look around, because it's really neat. We will do most of the rides, and we won't be able to spend an entire day there. I just don't think there's enough to do. But, it's definitely not one to miss. If you are interested in the trails, maybe hope for a mild day.

It's so true that you will get different opinions from everyone. :) We went to MGM for the first time this month & loved it! We were there from 8 am with EMH to 10 after Fantasmic. It was very hot but we stayed hydrated and were on the move all day long. The kids loved it & can't wait to go back with their friend in December now.
