I personally have yet to find a decent counter service place at MGM. For some unknown reason the food quality and choices are just not there at MGM. The only place we have had good luck at MGM is the Brown Derby but with younger kids that probably is not a great option. The food at Prime Time is better than Sci-Fi but not great IMHO however the variety available there would probably please everyone in your family.

The ABC Commisary is a decent counter service spot. They have dishes that are are a little different than most counter service places. Go to www.allearsnet.com for a full menu. However, you cannot really compare 50's Prime Time to a counter service, it's a bird of a different color.

If you're doing LTT for dinner, I would eat a light lunch. The amount of food there at dinner is amazing! We usually eat a quick lunch at Backlot Express at MGM, they have a good fixin's bar for the burgers and cute lunchbox type meals for the kids.

I like Sci Fi and I hear Mama Melrose is good but we will be trying Pizza Planet (kids want this) on our Aug Trip

So dose anyone know how pizza planet is ?

Where are this at ? I mean I know mgm but where at in MGM .

Thanks

Pizza Planet is across (sort of) from the Muppets. We get the Junkyard deal. It's large enough for 2 to share.

We've eaten at Pizza Planet a few times. Nothing to write home about, but it is good. It would be my suggestion for a light lunch (haven't tried the Backlot Express - that may be good as well). For just burgers and fries, which we have also found to be good each time, we go to the spot on the "road" to TOT...the name just escaped me.

We do love SciFi and 50s though. I know people have bad reviews for both, but somehow we have always had a good meal there. If you choose one of these, I would make the seating as early as possible so you are good n hungry for LTT.

my kids really liked pizza planet. and they are somewhat picky eaters.

I don't think I would cancel the 50's PT. We love it there! Although you probably won't want to eat a huge meal if you are having dinner at LTT. The counter service spots at MGM are ok, but nothing great.

Pizza Planet is the same pizza that is available in the resorts and at Pizzasafari (sp?) in AK. It's not terribly bad but not really good. It's not a bad option for a quick lunch. I also like Sci-Fi too, it takes longer and costs a little more but it's a fun atmosphere.

I always thought Backlot Express was pretty good. I have never had any luck with ABC Commissary.

We enjoyed 50's, but have not chosen to return. That said, I think I would return to Mama Melrose's.

We eat at 50's at least once each trip (and just made our AP's for Oct). As for counter service, the only place we've really cared for is Pizza Planet.
