I am curious as I am purchasing AKV and wondering how the MFs there compare to others. Also, anywhere to see the point conversion for cruises as I have read a lot on the boards that it is a waste of points. Also, anywhere to see the pros/cons (all differences) between direct and resale purchases? Thanks!

New charts come out every year so how many points it takes to go on a cruise will change. But, our experience was wonderful.
We used our points for a Disney Wonder cruise to the Mexican Riviera. We thought it was well worth our points (for the seven night, two adjoining port window rooms on deck 7; five people) it took around 600 point the year we went. We banked and borrowed to go on the cruise.

There is a lot of negativity about using your points for other things other than the resorts at DW. In the end, only you can make the decision what is right for you. For us, it makes sense. We live in California. Two weeks ago, we stayed at our home resort (AKL) for six nights savanna view dedicated two bedroom. We had a wonderful time. But it was really expensive. ($1200 for park hopper tickets, $2500 for airplane tickets $2000 for food, drinks and gifts) Our friends that went with us paid similar amounts. The cruise cost $2000 for all the incidentals (land excursions, Palo, trinkets, pictures, wine tastings, baby sitting, etc.....) We did not have to fly so the cost of gas was around $150. In the end the cruise cost of less immediate 'cash' out. Yes, we used more points but when looking at our checking account, there will definitely be times that using our points for other trips works. We have also been to Hawaii (before Aulani). We stayed in a one bedroom with loft (basically two bedroom) that cost us 160 points for the week. That was another fantastic trip and again I have no regrets about using my points for it.

There are many posts about the pros and cons of buying direct or resale.
Pros for direct:
1. get your points faster
2. can use a credit card to pay for the whole purchase (we immediately paid our credit card off; the airline points we earned made our first DVC flight 'free' to Florida)
3. Can use your points for cruises or trade them with RCI

Pros for resale:

1. a lot less money upfront

At the top of the forum, there is a Sticky Thread called DVC Resource Center. Look at post #2 for the MF info.

Disney Cruise Line point requirements can be found in the points book distributed by Disney. You can request the information be sent to you by filling out a request online at the DVC website.

As far as cruises being a waste of points, I wouldn't say that. But you do frequently get less value for your points if you use them in this manner. If you're ok with that, go for it. Personally, I would want to maximize my value from every point I own.
