Mexico is "Enraged" with the proposed U.S wall.

From what I've seen Texans are divided about this issue. I understand that even the older Texican families are divided.

Personally, I feel compassion for people who simply want to improve their lives. I'm not sure how much Texas can take though. I've seen whole areas change due to the influx and services in some areas do become strained. Yes, a fast increase in population does cost more as the need for police, fire, street repairs, schools and so on increases.

I also have mixed feelings about the demand for bilingual workers. I am bilingual but my second language is the wrong one. It does make me feel a bit inept. Some people would say "learn Spanish!" At the same time, I can come back and say "learn English!" though. It works both ways IMO.

Well, since you all are so against a fence, maybe we should use mines.

We would just get stuck with the cost of fixing the unlucky ones.

I think it's a GREAT idea!! I cannot think of a better way to keep the illegal immigrants out of this country. I think the expense of the wall would pay for itself within weeks!

Please don't flame me, but the illegal immigration issue is truly at a climax!! When the majority of my son's school is spanish speaking (79%), I cannot go anywhere without seeing signs in both spanish and english (spanish sometimes 1st!!) and no one speaking english, it drives me insane!!!

Why should I have to learn how to speak spanish??? I should not! LEGAL immigrants should be forced to speak english, just MHO.

The lawmakers in our state are actually trying to propose a bill to offer medicaid and federal aid to illegal immigrant WTH??????

Do you think we can help AMERICAN citizens first before illegals??

Just had to vent, it makes me want to scream!! Flame away :firefight

Can I just ad that we should not be giving assistence to those in puerto Rico either unless they decide to become a US state which was denied by them several times. Why do we support them with welfare and food stamps if they are not US citizens?

Right, so lets change the laws to be more compassionate.

We absolutely should MANDATE compassion, under penalty of pain. :rotfl2:

Because Puerto Rico has Commonwealth status.

The people of Puerto Rico ARE full US citizens, as are the people of Guam and the US Virgin Islands.

And American Samoa.

I would guess that the wall would pay for itself within a very short time given the social, medical and legal costs of illegal immigration. I would assume that it would be a federal project.
Boy, that is so true, especially the medical costs. That's why the hospital in Brownsville, Texas, is one of the most expensive in the country-they have to try to recoup their losses from all the uninsured and illegals who use their facilities. So we suffer with very high medical costs.
Vicente Fox said that the Mexican economy depends on the money generated by the US allowing illegals in. That's because all the illegals come over here to work, then send the money they make back to their relatives in Mexico. Once you've lived down here for a while, where illegal immigration is an ongoing problem, where we live, work, and shop among illegals daily, your eyes really get opened.

I have an idea. We should post extra border patrols after the holidays so the illegals who went back to Mexico for Christmas will not be able to come back to the U.S. Then, we should start building the wall.

As for worker visas, IMO, they should be given out sparingly. One problem with illegal immigration is they are lowering the middle class wage for U.S. employees. If illegals will work for less than minimum wage and are legally able to fill our jobs, there is no reason for U.S. employers to pay decent wages to their workers. This is true not only for agricultural work, but for factory work and construction work, where illegals have infiltrated our workforces to a large extent.

Not exactly sure that is completely true. Companies are cutting benefits (health, retirement) not because the have a lot of illegal workers ready and willing to work, but because they CAN, because their American work force allows them to do so without repercussions.

:rotfl2: I'd have a much smaller class!

Oh, it's entirely true that illegals have transformed construction, meat processing, chicken processing, and many industries. One example I always use is the RV manufacturing in my husband's midwest hometown. It's almost all done by illegals. They pick them up at the border and drive them North. Obviously, the employers should be punished (and IMO jailed) for doing this, but it's SOP in so many industries. These were once jobs held by middle class Americans.

So, the consensus view seems to be that the wall is a good idea?
And that the jury is still out on whether Texas should be inside or outside?

We should definately keep Texas inside. We may have to move there. There are only a few states left without an income tax. :rotfl2:

I count myself lucky that I live in a country surrounded entirely by water - the inmigration problem in America must be horrendous!

Rich::

Rich, from what I understand you have a similar immigration problem, although not as severe of course, as France. They may have entered your country legally however.

And yet I've been told many times on these boards, while debating big business, that making profits are what companies are in business for, it's the American way, and accepting less than maximum profit is doing a diservice to the company itself and it's stockholders if it is a public company. I wish a few of them would come here and debate what you have said in your post.

Me too! Hadn't really considered that, but I'd guess there'd be a significant difference in my class size also.

If the circumstances/roles/situations were reversed - say the "poor" Americans trying to get into "rich" Mexico - I wonder if Mexico would be building/extending a wall to keep the unwanted "poor" Americans out!?!?
Absolutely!!!!
