Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Hello everyone!

Looks like it was a busy weekend!

Lorie - Sienna's room looks great! Love the color! And I'm jealous of the furniture. I too had a friend who had one of those antique vanity sets in her room growing up. Wonder what ever happened to it?

Lori - Woohoo on the 5 yr anniversary!

Kathy- I wish I would have realized y'all were playing ball in the area this weekend. I didn't read about the games until Saturday, and by then it was too late. We could have stopped by one of the games after DS's practice. Was Kyle well enough to pitch?

And 1.99 crawfish @ Rouses????!!!! Fingers crossed that the prices are coming down. Maybe I'll convince DH to get some this weekend.

Sheryl - So tragic about the little girl. I hope the blood drive is successful.

Morning everyone...

Sorry I have not checked in... this was a busy weekend.

DD had her gymnastics meet @ LSU on Saturday @ 8. Boy we really had fun. This was her 1st time making 9.600 on anything. :woohoo: She placed 3rd for the Vault. We then decided to hang around until 5 to see the level 10's. It's a shame how competitive the parents get even @ level 2. :sad2: DD was starting to get a complex a little about not getting a 9; she has been getting 8.5 to 8.9 which is still very good.

DD and I had crawfish yesterday as well from the local crawfish shop on Behrman highway; they were sooooo good :thumbsup2 but they were ($2.49) a lb. I also got some shrimp for the 1st time....I do not think I will get them anymore. Is it hard to peel the shell off of shrimp when they are boiled? They were okay but not as good as the crawfish.

I also ran alot of errands yesterday since I did not get a chance to do it on Saturday. Boy is it getting harder to find nice dresses for 9 y.o.'s. All I saw were polka-dots, strips and flowers; all of which DD does not like. we finally found a dress @ Stage.

Well I will not be around until tomorrow night; I am going out of town to attend my aun'ts funeral. She has been suffing for the last 6 months with heart disease and she finally succumbed to it this past week. :sad1:

Later guys.

Congrats to DD!!!! You should be very proud Mom.:thumbsup2

Boiled shrimp shouldn't be hard to peel. If they're cooked right they won't be. Sounds like those were over-cooked.

I'll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers, so sorry for your loss.

Terry, I'm sorry about your aunt. , and I know its hard with dresses for older girls. Everything seems to be so low-cut. I usually take it to the seamstress for a few extra stitches. Also, congratulations to your DD.

Kathy, that coach seems like a classy person:)

We had crawfish yesterday also. They were good, but still a little on the small side. Very tasty though.

My son, David, had a good weekend. There was a Lacrosse tournament in Ocean Springs, MS. Jesuit played on Saturday and Sunday. It was a great day--JV won every game they played in. Go Blue Jays!!

Hey y'all!

Sounds like everyone had a good weekend! My weekend was pretty busy as well, birthday party for a 4 year old friend of DD yesterday... it's taking me a whole day of rest today to get over that one- my ears are still ringing! :rotfl:

Terry- So sorry for your loss  And congrats to your DD!

I tell ya, I need an intervention. I've got the Disney itch so bad right now it's crazy! I'm playing my Disney Treasures DVDs (with the classic Mickey cartoons) and I've been venturing on over to the Theme Parks and Resorts boards. :sad2: I want to go sooo bad!!! :sad1: DH also chimed in that he's feeling the itch too, so I have a yellow, not green, light to book a trip. We can only go if 1) we get a discount code of some sort and 2) we have the tax stimulus rebate check in hand. So, I'm thinking about going in September because there is almost always some sort of promotion during that month- now I'm just waiting on codes! :surfweb: And low crowds are a must because DD hasn't really been showing much patience these days  so long lines definitely won't work for her.

And a reunion update: my cousin called me yesterday and gave me the biggest, baddest guilt trip ever. She said that so many people who are going are asking if I'm going because they really want to see me. And that it's so sad of me not to go because I'm worried about three of the 70 people that will be there. So she's basically forcing me to go now. Not only that, but I have to bring a dessert as well (I'm thinking mango cheesecake? it's the Cuban side of the family). Her powers of persuasion are ginormous.

:yay: for David! I must admit I know nothing about Lacrosse but when we were in Houston a few weeks ago there was a huge Lacrosse tournament going on and it sure looks like a lot of fun.

Lorie - :yay: for the yellow light, you're only one step away from a green one.;) I hope everything works out for y'all!!

As long as you feel comfortable about the reunion, I'm sure it will work out just fine.:goodvibes Now you know you cant just throw out "mango cheesecake" without a recipe!!!!!! We need it........:woohoo:

I just got home from work and I took care of her.  :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: What a wonderful, loving family. We all took it pretty hard.
I cant go into it because of HIPPA but please give blood, we need it. And I decided to go staff at Children's Hospital after doing a contract with them. I just love NICU/PICU and its my kind of place. :flower3: :grouphug:

We are grateful for people like you! :thumbsup2 Not everyone is cut out to do that kind of job. I do hope that blood drive goes well, to help Madison's family.

Terry, What a great score! Wow a 9.6! :cool1: Those level 10's are something to watch aren't they?! Sad that parent's get so nasty (in all kid's sports) & spoil it for their kids.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Hope you had a safe trip!

My multi-quote thingy didn't work.

Mary, Woohoo for your son's lacrosse team!:cool1:

Kathy, Thanks for the head's up on Rouse's crawfish! I was wondering if they were any good. Glad to hear they are, I sure am craving them!

Lorie, I hope the reunion goes really well for you! And I have to 2nd Kathy's request on mango cheesecake! Recipe, pleeeze! It sounds fantastic!
Hope things work out for a new trippie!

We had a pretty busy weekend. Not what we planned but good. Didn't get out to the french fest, like we planned. But we did go out to the movies. Not the movie I wanted either, guess who picked 10000 BC? Yep DH, but it was actually pretty good. Then we were out in Lorie's neck of the woods, Sat. evening. We went to Mona's for dinner with friends! Yummo, as usual. And can you believe I spent almost 50 bucks in their little shop? And we went somewhere on Sunday, but for the life of me I can't remember where or what. Oh, man that CRS is really kicking in!

This morning was a bummer. I had to go to court for that accident. And DH convinced me to plead not guilty, so that means I'll have to go back next month. YUCK, there sure are some scary creepy people in courthouses!

Lorie-Sienna's room is adorable!! Very simple and cute. I only wish my kids rooms were as neat as they used to be.

On the Disney itch note, even though I just went, I was itching to go back this year b/c I have an AP and it would be too easy and not tooo expensive, esp if we went during free DDP time(if offered, which a CM told me is looking good). We could literally go for a 5 day trip for about $1000-Here is my big BUT(ha)-DH said one night, out of a deep sleepy nap, "go ahead and book the cruise" WHAT!!! I asked if he was dreamin' and he said, "no, you showed me all those pictures of the Disney cruise, go ahead and book it for next December". I had asked for a quote for next December from Dreams Unlimited. The quote was $3549 for a category 9, porthole room for 4. Well, with tips and taxes, it will be about $4000. With any drinks(which will happen and since the kids will be with us it will be minimal-1 a day) This is for a 7 day cruise. The dilemma??? I booked it and put down my $1000, but have never saved up that amount of money in less than 2 years for a vacation!!! So now I am nervous. DH says "well, if we decide we can't do it by next year this time, we can postpone it ". BUT if we can go to WDW for $1000 inluding food, we can do the cruise later on, right?? He is dead set on going on the cruise, so I guess that means that any extra funds we get next year will go to that.
Although, I must add, that I am wanting to do homeschool days in Sept just me and the DD's, but he feels funny about us going it alone. Hubby's! :confused3

Lori

I've been having the Disney bug for a while now. DH says we just went last summer, and we need to travel to other places. I'd go to Disney every summer if we could (my kids would too). I think we are going to NYC this year with a side trip to Niagara falls if we can work it in. I've always wanted to see the falls, so I am excited. But, there's nothing like a Disney trip:)

Well, I'm still not totally comfortable with the reunion, but I have backup- DH and my niece are going with me, and my cousin and her mom said they've got my back too if anything goes awry. :rotfl2:

I've never made mango cheesecake before- I've made plain, pumpkin, eggnog, etc, but never mango. I was just going to do a plain one, but then thought this was be more festive so I may give it a whirl. I've been looking at some recipes online and have in my mind what I need to do. But, I was thinking about throwing some toasted shredded coconut in the crust and maybe a little Coco Lopez in the filling for a little more oomph- what do you think? It could be a tropical mango-coconut cheesecake.

Lorie, I hope the reunion goes really well for you! And I have to 2nd Kathy's request on mango cheesecake! Recipe, pleeeze! It sounds fantastic!

Yummy Mona's! :yay: That reminds me that I need to pickup from them soon- it's been too long! And I know what you mean about that dang CRS- I get it a lot too! ;)

Hopefully court goes well for you next month!

Lori

Oh, I've always wanted to go on a Disney cruise! It'll never happen though because DH is scared of boats- he has zero interest in going on a cruise. :guilty: But going in September since you have an AP would be really, really tempting, especially if the cruise is not a 100% done deal. You can't beat going for $1000! I don't think my DH would be comfortable with me going alone with DD either.

Dh and I always say we're doing a different vacation every year, but we never do it. We always head back to Disney! DH sees other places though as he travels a bit for work, as did I back when I was working, but we just never go anywhere else as a family. I think that maybe when DD is older I may be more willing to go somewhere else, but for now Disney works fine for me!

Lori, A Disney cruise sounds great! If we ever go on another cruise it will be Disney. We've been on one, a Carnival Cruise out of here. And we just kept thinking, boy they don't do things like Disney.

We've talked about doing something other than Disney, hence the Daytona trip. Okay technically it was still a Disney trip, but we tried! ;) We've talked about a trip up the East Coast & out west, but making sure everything will be handicap accessible just overwhelms both of us.

Lorie, That cheesecake is sounding better & better! I have a suggestion for the reunion. Make 2 cheescakes, eat one before you go with a shot of rum on the side & you'll be good to go! ;) ;)

Good morning, looks like the sun is finally starting to come out this morning. It was really wet getting the kids off to school this morning.

He was feeling better and did pitch the Saturday morning game. It went nine innings and he pitched the whole game. We lost, but he pitched well, ten strike-outs and one walk. We were very impressed with the East Ascension coach, he could see that Kyle was taking the loss very hard and pulled Kyle aside and had a pretty long talk with him. I've never seen an opposing coach do that before.:goodvibes

A word of caution on the Rouse's crawfish. I told my neighbor about them and she went and got some. They obviously were trying to move the crawfish fast because of the crowds, hers were undercooked with no taste at all.

That sounds like it was a tough loss. I think I would have been stunned to see an opposing team's coach doing what EA's coach did, but from what I know of him, it's par for the course. My kids participated in his Thanksgiving week camp, and I was impressed with him then. He did a really good job of stressing to the kids that if you work on being a good student & a good child to your parents, then being a good athlete will come on it's own!

Bad news about the neighbor's undercooked crawfish. That's a recipe for some serious stomach distress. Hope the cooks in that seafood dept. learn to be patient, or they'll be out of a job. Did they call & let the store manager know?

Lorie - that mango cheesecake sounds wonderful. Too bad I'm so far away. I'd volunteer to be on your taste test panel for that "practice" cheesecake!

Lori- We're on the fence about a Disney cruise too. I really want to take the kids, and with everything I've read, the Disney cruise seems like a no-brainer. However, when I look at the prices for going on a cruise out of New Orleans.....my wallet starts to voice it's own opinion!

Morning Y'all,

Yucky, wet morning here! I only have to take Alexis to school 2 days a week. So why does it seem like it's alway raining on my days! They have construction going on at the school & the parking lot is a mad house too. Ugh!

Kathy, Sorry I missed that post about Kyle pitching. Glad he pitched well, even though they lost. That is pretty amazing about that coach! From what Cajunmommy says, he sounds like one good coach & a really good man!
How's Kyle's back doing? And how are you feeling? If your still feeling sick, you'd better get yourself to the doctor!

Have a good day y'all!

Anyone looking for part-time employment or know of anyone?? The lady that's been working for me for 14 years just gave me notice that Friday is her last day. Real nice, huh?

Anyway it's a Credit Union in Metairie. Person will process loans, general teller work. Office hours will be Tuesday - Thursday 9AM-1PM. And best of all - work for me, I'm such a sweet boss.:hippie: Salary depends on experience.

Sorry about your co-worker! That sucks!

If I hadn't hadn't been feeling so crappy lately, I'd jump on that one in a heartbeat! I wanted a job with those hours forever! I'd find a job like that, & sure enough then they'd want you to work a few more hours here, a few more there. I had 2 jobs great " part-time, go home & forget about work" type jobs, that eventually ended up being "full-time, worry about it all the time" type jobs!:confused3
