Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 09/2009

Serena~

Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey y'all!

Not much going on here...patiently waiting for DH's car to get finished...:rolleyes1

Is anyone else as SICK of this cold weather as I am? Seriously, enough already. Let's turn on the HEAT! :sunny: I need to get started on my backyard, and that will never happen until it warms up!

Lori- I got the shoes from Joe's New Balance Outlet, amazon, and ebay. Sierra Trading Post had some great deals too! DH and I still want your house...:rotfl: Between this cold weather we've been having, the school situation here, and constantly seeing our city officials going to prison, a move to Florida sounds pretty good right now! It would be my dream to move there and work in Disney Horticulture...:cloud9:

Thanks!
And, I pray you will one day live your dream. My dream is to work there too- but I am not sure I care WHERE. But after talking to many CM's I think I would do well in the kidcot stations- not the one in WS , unless it is USA, but I love talking and talking to kids is cool. Plus I like crafts for kids, even if they are lame and cheesy!
It's kinda cool - in GKTW, there is a volunteer position called a Park Pointer. They are just people are know a lot about the parks and can help the 'wish' families plan thier park days and places to eat and such. Sounds up any Dis'ers alley, huh?:laughing:

Lori

Serena - hope you had an awesome day!

Kat - take care of yourself and hope all goes well Monday

hope Bob gets well soon too

Lorie -hang in there! I keep calling when I am going to be out your way....I may just drop by. if it isn't a good time i won't be hurt if you say no ;)

Lori - so excited you are feeling comfortable there!!

2 more months minus 1 day to disney!! doesn't seem real...hope I can get the money by next Thursday to go...

Thanks for al the good thoughts and prayers.:grouphug: I have to have an EKG on Monday and will be getting a heart monitor. My doc said that since I was able to do my normal gym workout all this week with no problems he doesn't think it's anything major.

So glad the Dr. doesnt think its much! Good to hear Lori also agrees!

OHH Bob.. those crazy men, always have to be stubborn !!

MK was a BLAST today. The kids had fun going on rides with new friends.
it was COLD in the morning and tonight, but we stayed from open to close(9am-8pm) and it was moderate crowds. 90 minutes for Winnie the Pooh is ridiculous- thankfully we weren't riding it. We hardly waited in any lines thanks to getting there early and FP. "Wishes" NEVER gets old does it? it is ending in summer sometimes- I heard today they are going back to Fantasy in the Sky-well, I am not positive, but that is something I heard....

I found out too that the next moms night out is in EPCOT(they do this once a month and alternate months with one month IN a park and one month at a resort) and the same gal that gave us the tickets today can let up to 3 people in on her pass(her hubby is the one that schedules refurbs) and since her kids won't be there, she can get me and another mom in, if we wanna go.:rolleyes1 I met the RIGHT people down here so far:rotfl:. God bless her , she is soooo nice! I am not sure about going though, b/c we'll be in the house starting Tuesday and I may just wanna stay home and cuddle up on MY couch.

Lori

I have only four words for you......

I am so jealous.......

Thanks for the CHF info.

Hey Nola chicks, check your facebook messages!!! Important message!!! LOL

Happy Saturday ladies. Thank you all for the birthday well wishes. :)

Hugs to all who are under the weather.

Ug, is it just me, or is everyone's multiquote button missing.. gonna do my best.

Kat: prayers and good wishes. Glad it doesn't sound serious. Logan had one of those heart moniters a couple years ago. It is about the size of a credit card and looks like the toll tags. When you use it, you call a number and push a button. Easy as pie.

Lori: GOOOO to Epcot!!!! I know you want to be home, but building new relationships is important too and it might be good for you, emotionally. on your rollercoaster ride at the moment.

Serena: Happy Birthday, sorry I am late. Hope it was fabulous.

I think I am going to try to plan a camping vacation this summer. Lori, any ideas??? Somewhere close to home, but has activities to do. I am thinking of one in Mississippi. I don't know where to start! I don't want to do Bayou Siegnette since it is too swampy for my tastes. And I want it to be weather permitting cause I am not into totally wet camping. But we are trying to save money and still have fun.

My thoughts are with the people affected by the earthquake in Chile.

I have some friends from another thread who are vacationing in Hawaii. They are waiting in a Walmart parking lot hoping to be evacuated to the airport and arguing with American Airlines about trying to get an earlier flight out.:sad2:

OH wow.. I hope they get out soon!! Prayers for all !

My sister in law lives close to the beach in Honolulu. Shares a house with other retired ladies from the Navy. Last we heard they are on there way to higher ground and afraid they will loose everything.:sad1:
DH and I are saying prayers for her and everyone else from this disaster. Horrible.:sad1::sad1:

Lori, GO to the Mom's night out! Years back there was a group of Mom's at DD's school that had a monthly night out. ( She didn't start at this school until 2nd grade, so the group of friends was already established.) I was invited several times but for one reason or another I didn't go. The invites stopped after a while. That group of gals are still friends after all these years & I still regret not making those first invites.

poppinsme, Prayers for your sister & her friends!

Kathy, Prayers for your friends too.

Also praying for the people of Chile & elsewhere that is affected.

Little Black Creek- it's in Lumberton, Mississippi. grew up going there- LOVE it. Has cabins that are decent- it's a campground and it's not a Disney campground, so take that houw you want to. Our homeschool assoc. there goes there once or twice a year and they also love it- and most stay at the cabins.

Have fun!

Thanks for the CHF info.

you are funny, so far, my family is telling me they don't wanna hear about it anymore:rotfl:
I REALLY feel unbeleiveably lucky/blessed.............the low lows have been balanced out by high highs-we are SO tired!

The monitor is called a Holter monitor. You cannot bathe or shower for 24 hours, so take one before you go and please do not wear lotion. They will just have to clean your skin harder if you do. While you have it on do your normal activities so they can get a true reading if anything is happening.
Don't be nervous if they tell you the (results) report is 50 pages long- they all are. it records and the tech scans every single heartbeat you had in 24 hours- it's gonna be long. I only say that b/c a friend freaked out b/c they told her the report was 35 pages long and it made her nervous that it was a written report of what was wrong with her heart.

I have posted pics on FB(it's just too easy) of the house. All is well- the closing is DONE. We ordered our black appliances today and will pay it off when we get the taxes back for buying a house before April or something.
DH is filing Monday.

We decided to get a pool guy till we have time to put into taking care of the pool. I was bored waiting on people Thursday so I chopped a banana tree(???)up(the dead pieces) and some other trees(???)for like 45 minutes yesterday and it's still doesn't hardly look like I touched it. But there is a HUGE pile of dead stuff that came from it next to it. Paul and I have a LOT of chopping and pruning to do. It'll be easier when we have our electric saw.:rolleyes1 We just can't keep ALLL of that landscaping up! The neighbors asked us if we were gonna get it shaped up and keep it, or scale back. We said we'll probably scale back and they laughed b/c the previous owner regretted planting so much- and they had no kids from what I understand. [But there's a built in chalkboard in DD12's room(which we are gonna make into a corkboard)]

Lorie- if you get here in time you need to come save some!!! I have NO idea what it all is. I may post it on FB and you can tell me!

We painted Haley's room today and the kitchen. We are picking out paint for the dining room that will not be a dining room- it will be a sitting/school room. The study is gonna be where we keep our books/guest bedroom. it has great solid oak bookshelves. I just can't bring myself to do school SO far from the kitchen:goodvibes. The kitchen is central, right?? Maybe that's why my rear looks like it does:laughing:

It's looking more like home. :lovestruc

Thinking of all of you and wishing you were here- REALLY. Some of these lovely people don't know what a King Cake is or tasted a crawfish. And they think I am from Jersey- is my dialect that rough? NO offense to Jersey people, of course:wizard:

I am looking forward to pool parties for my kids!:yay:

Ash's allergies are worse than ever- waiting for warmer weather, like you are!

Lori

I read that the tsunami possibility is gone. PTL!!!!

Lori

Lori, thanks so much for the info! I will look into that campground for sure. We can't afford a major vacation at the moment, but the kids are at the right age to build family memories and that is what I would love to do this summer. Your house is looking more like a home and I am loving the pics. Please keep them coming over there on facebook.

Logan is coming back from his camping trip to Belle Chasse this afternoon. He had handwarmer, gloves, the works so hopefully he will not have damaged himself this time around. He actually had the opportunity to go camping in the Grand Canyon this summer with his scout troop but we decided not to send him. Even though it is only $500, which we could technically afford, we have to think down the line. In two years, Fletcher will be there with him and then along comes Spencer. So we have to think of it in the terms of x's 3.

I am glad the tsunami wasn't as bad as it could have been for many people. I am glad that people seemed to heed the warning, and hope they do the next time too. Chile is so sad though. The Earth is definately adjusting though. Haiti, Japan, and Chile all had major earthquakes in a months time.

I can't wait until later this week when we are back to more normal temperatures. I am tired of wearing long pants, I want my shorts!!! I feel like I am whining but usually I am thinking of firing up the grill about now and starting work on the yard. I guess I should be grateful. I haven't had to mow the yard since November.

I have Covington and Clermont weather updates on my laptop main page. Covington is actually warmer than Clermont today by 3 degrees.

Paul read that the earthquake affected Lake Pontchartrain- how bizarre! he said it rocked like a wobbling bowl- but only about 6 inches back and forth or something.

Cara-I know the thinking in multiples thing- you always try to balance it out! My young years were spent camping at Money Hill- which is now a mac daddy golf course gated community above Abita Springs. We then changed to LBC and grew to love it there. We always camped in #61 or 62- there are woods behind it that we used to play hide and seek in- but it is contained b/c there is a street on the other side. it's a site though, not a cabin. There are cabins across the street from it though that overlook the lake. I cannot remember the site # we used most recently- it may have been #43- we like woods and not other campers too close to us. I think, if it is low season, they will let you drive around and pick what you like then go tell them.

I cannot tell you how much we are looking forward to hanging up the Fleur de Lis plate you all gave us- and all the other fleur de lis stuff we collected or was gifted from friends and family.:lovestruc This week!

We've had some LATE nights and late starts and we are sooo exhausted and in pain from painting- yes, pain- Paul and I are THAT out of shape!

Lori

Good afternoon!

I was down and out yesterday with a migraine. Seeing spots, dizzy, throbbing temple, nauseous, etc. But I'm making up for getting nothing done yesterday. I got up, paid the bills for the first half of the month, swept the floor, and went to the park and walked/jogged 10 miles in 2 hours, 20 minutes. Next up is running errands all over town. :upsidedow

Hey y'all,

DH is on the phone trying to book an AKV summer vacation! The man is seriously addicted!

Lori, Sorry you're hurting & that people think you're from Jersey! Did you my post, telling you to go to the Mom's night out? See above you need to go!

Bethany, Sorry you were feeling bad! I hope you're all better.

Yep, he booked AKV for 4 nights the beginning of June! Lori, We'll get to see you soon, so you don't get too homesick for people who understand your accent!!

Yay for AKV!!

Don't even get started on my accent. What a hot mess THAT is! :scared1:

Somebody on another forum was getting upset about "who dat" and how it sounds ridiculous and it's improper grammar blah blah blah. I guess that person wouldn't particularly like talking to me at all then, because when I really get going, just about ALL my th sound like d and most of my "ar" sound like "ah" and I can drop letters and sounds to the point where some sentences top out at about 4 syllables.
