Metro may be dropping Airmiles

So what we need to do now is tell the cashier at Metro each and every time we shop that we want Metro to continue with Airmiles. Tell your store Manager that you will switch to PC points if they discontinue AM. Let's start an AM revolution! (just kidding, sort of)

Likely a lot of posturing for some upcoming contract renewal negotiations.

I work for a large retailer and we used to have air miles. We severed our contract last year. The info we get from them on customers wasn't that much for us but it costs millions to be a part of airmiles as a retailer. Maybe they are going to go the route like PC points?

While I would be unhappy if they dropped the Airmiles program,,their (Metro's) participation lately has been dismal.
Some weeks they have posted 2-4 items with airmiles.
I believe in time they will go with their own points program like the have in Quebec.
This will switch my shopping over to Sobeys ,Foodland and No Frills for point purchases as I do not want to start another points loyalty plan.
This is a link to the Quebec Metro flyer.

I hope they work a deal with Metro.

Out west More Rewards is a big program, maybe they'll join that… https://www.morerewards.ca

I don't want yet another card though, I'd either go to Sobeys or Loblaws...

Re: More Rewards
I know Petro Canada just changed their rewards program.
It looks like an interesting rewards program...........I need the "Duck" to come home from Florida and analyze the program.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....don't tell her just yet as she is a BIG Metro shopper.
Hugs Mel

And Sobeys offers are getting fewer and fewer while their flyer takes on this new "Lower prices" direction. Which always makes me roll my eyes, because Sobey's is anything but low priced. I read some articles right around Christmas that Sobey's was struggling and they blamed airmiles and the bad press from expiry to a certain extent.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo Metro was our introduction to the AM programme and we've been loyal shoppers ever since. We don't have access to either a Sobeys or Foodland unless we want to drive over 1 hr RT.

I'll be taking a serious look at the difference between this and the PC thingee once we get home since we have a Zehrs within walking distance. We have another 10 days so no rush on that! Let me tell you this has been the best place to be hiding out while the proverbial crap is hitting the fan down here politically!! I've filtered out my FB feed so that i'm only seeing happy things and the only thing we have the tv doing is the silly loop with the music that's a constant drone to block the idiot on the other side of the door who is doing OPERA warm up whenever he's awake (yes SERIOUSLY!!)

Sounds like you need to combat this with a little AC/DC at 7:00am:D:rolleyes1. Not my preferred group to listen to but they do have their place at times.

I know there has been talk about Metro no longer participating in Air Miles....I just received this email from Metro

Dear Metro Customer,

Metro & AIR MILES have had a long-standing partnership that extends to almost 20 years. Metro has proudly sponsored the AIR MILES Reward Program since 1998, offering Dream Rewards and opportunities to save on grocery shopping. Metro stores have also been a destination for AIR MILES Cash redemptions in Ontario since the introduction of this feature in 2012.

Metro will continue to offer this benefit for as long as it continues to meet the needs of our customers. We are committed to putting our shoppers at the centre of everything that we do and will continue to partner with organizations that help us bring value to our customers every day.

As always, remember, that for every $20 spent at a Metro store, you'll get 1 Mile, plus the opportunity to use your Cash Miles anytime towards free groceries. And keep your eyes peeled for more opportunities to get even more Miles on thousands of products across the store every day.

If you haven't already, visit metro.ca today to link your AIR MILES Card to take advantage of personalized offers just for you.

Thought it might be useful to see this email on this thread as well in case someone doesn't see it in the Airmiles thread.

You're right, only a few airmile offers this week and I didn't even notice til I looked through my flyer. I shop there all the time cause it's my closest grocery store. But I don't go out of my way to maximize my airmiles. I just assumed I was getting a ton of airmiles from there. Maybe I'm not and I won't really miss it. I don't really pay attention to where I get my airmiles from, I just look at my balance from time to time.

I have had Air Miles for many years and never found their system very good. It too bad they have made those recent blunders because I know that they have helped people on this board achieve their vacation goals.

For our family, I have earned way more rewards over a couple of years with PC Plus than I have forward decades with Air Miles... and we don't even use their debit/credit card. PC Plus is tailored to your shopping habits and the points are easy to redeem. The saving you get from your groceries can be put aside for your Disney vacations.

So very quick look at Sobeys this week and they do have Super Bowl AM specials. Buy 4 items and get 50AM. A lot of ElPaso taco kits, but avacados at 1.67. If you like avacados like we do this is an easy 50 am. $6.70 for 4, then you get just over $5 in AM, good return. The others are not too bad, some Taco kits for 2.99 salsa for the same. There is also some energy bars, if your into them, 1.67 wyb 4 for 10AM.
