Metal Detectors?

I have two implanted DBS units (sort of like a pacemaker except it's for my brain, not my heart). I absolutely cannot go through a metal detector, airport security scanner, etc., not because it will set off the alarm (I guarantee it will) but because the scanner will turn off both implants at once, which is incredibly uncomfortable and takes at least an hour to recover. At the airport, I just decline to go through the scanner and they do a pat down.

Planning my first trip to Universal, but the talk of metal detectors before most of the rides has me nervous. Does anyone know if they have an alternative for those who cannot do metal detectors? Hand wands are fine, just not the full scanner. Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation?

Thanks so much!

It’s only on Hulk and Rip Ride Rockit. Not sure where you heard most rides but hopefully that helps!
There are metal detectors at the park entrance (well, CityWalk really- you go through them once then you’re in the bubble for the day if you switch parks or go to CW). Once you’re in the park, you can probably talk with someone in guest services.
Good luck!

Security (City Walk), Hulk, RRR are the only locations you'll get into this problem, or if you're at a hotel and walk through their own security. DC had them, but of course that ride no longer exists and it's now Hagrid's which doesn't have detectors.

For security, personally prefer going to the parks as early as possible (a little before official opening time) to avoid congestion as it feels a little too crowded during other times. I'd suggest that to you do the same so it's easier and less chaotic so you have a better time to explain. I'm sure if you explain your situation and politely offer you're more than willing for a wand and pat down that they should be accommodating. If you're at a hotel, you shouldn't have to worry about that at all. It should be a quiet and smooth experience.

Thanks so much. From some of the discussions, it sounded like there was a metal detector at every ride to make sure no one was smuggling a covert cell phone onto the rides.

No, they just don’t want them flying out of pockets when a ride goes upside down/ near upside down to prevent injuries.
