We spent the day at Typhoon Lagoon yesterday, and, after a mix up with our order at Lowtide Lous (counter service) for lunch, the manager walked over dropped a metal coin on our tray and walked away. We had no idea what it was for, so I asked the CM at the cash register what it was for. She said, "It's for your ice cream!"

I'm guessing that was his way of apologizing for the mix-up.

Later in the day, I went back to redeem my ice cream, and the CM scolded me for not telling her in advance that I had a token, and told me I didn't have to stand in the line, I could have justwalked up the side to redeem it.

WHAT was this coin? DH thinks it might ordinarily have to do with the Disney Dining Plan.

I'm sorry if I sound ignorant. We go to WDW on an almost weekly basis, but because we live so close, we're out of touch with some of the newer things like the DDP.

I have only seen the coin token used at Typhoon Lagoon. I assume BB uses it also. But I have never been there.
The purpose behind token coin for ice cream is so guests can purchase their meal, which may include ice cream. They get a coin instead of the ice cream. Anytime afterwards guests return to exchange the coin for their ice cream so they don't have to worry about the ice cream melting.

I don't know for certain one way or another. I just know the logic behind the tokens.
