:tinker: I WAS GOING TO WEAR A BLUE JEAN DRESS WITH METAL BUTTONS ON IT!! DH SAYS I WON'T BE ABLE TO GO THRU SECURITY! WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK?? SAME BUTTONS THAT ARE ON BLUE JEANS! WILL I HAVE A PROBLEM??

Not a problem. I have a dress like that, and I wear it to travel all the time. The buttons on mine are steel.

Overalls *can* be a problem, though; the shoulder buckles are often just big enough to set off the detector. I always tell people not to put toddlers into overalls w/ metal buckles for travel -- it is one thing for an adult to be selected for addl. screening, but toddlers often don't handle it well.

I don't recommend it. I have seen several women with the blue jean shirts with the metal type buttons on them who have had problems. One of my friends wore an denim overall outfit (the type with the rings and snaps on the bib area) and had to be speacially screened as she kept setting off the alarms (and it's not like she could just take her outfit off!! Her kids were just sitting there laughing at mom!)

My advice would be to avoid any clothing with any appreciable amount of metal (except for metal buttons on outerwear that will go through the x-ray in a bin). If the metal detector sounds, the TSA employees have no choice but to perform a secondary screening. Some metal detectors are very sensitive.
