Messed-up Room Category

I am looking for advice for a messed-up room category. We had requested MK View (now called Theme Park View) at the GF when we made our reservations back in January. We paid for the trip in May and today our itinerary package arrived in the mail and it instead shows Lagoon View. I called the number immediately and was informed that there were no rooms currently available for Theme Park View during our stay. After overreacting and yelling at my husband for making the wrong reservation, he called and got the same story that no rooms were available. The agent was able to see that he had originally requested Theme Park View and told him that they would be able to change it to Theme Park View. How can they change the room category when they are showing nothing available? Also, what doesn't make sense to me is that they told him he would have to pay the difference in rates at check-in. I checked online and it is still showing Lagoon View. Does anyone know if you have to wait for the online reservation to show changes? I wonder if I should trust this or was the agent just trying to pass the problem along. Any thoughts?

The room view categories are as followed:

Garden view $375
Lagoon view $435
Magic Kingom view $465

What exactly did you book at the time of your reservation? Did you just book a Lagoon view room and request a view of the Magic Kingdom?

Unfortunately, if you did just book a lagoon view and request a view of the MK, there is no gaurentee of the view when it's in request format; especially if they are offering a specific room category with that view and a price different.

My suggestion would be to call back (every day if possible) and ask if any Magic Kingdom view categories are available, and that your interested in upgrading. If so, make sure you pay at that time for the upgrade and request a new itinerary by email or mail. Ask upon check-in as well, and if nothing is available, ask for a lagoon view room that will provide the best view.

I'm sorry your having trouble :flower3:

We requested a MK View and we assumed that that was what we were paying for. I think that if you asked to book a MK View that would be what you would be charged. The price is stated as part of the package with dining and park hopper so it is hard for me to compare prices with a room only rate. I will have to work at breaking it all down. What I don't understand is telling us that they will change it while at the same time telling us that there are no rooms available in that category.

Easiest way to break it down would be on the Disney website (especially if there isn't any codes applied to your reservation) Find a week where both views are offered, and price it out that way.

Did you book on the phone directly with Disney? If so did you receive any information in the mail soon after booking regarding your trip? I know when I booked for my Sept trip, a week or two after the phone call I was sent information regarding my reservation (nothing like an itinerary packet, just a piece of paper) it stated what my resort and room category was.

As for them telling you to that it's available but to pay the difference at booking? That's completely unacceptable! I would call back and speak with another CM. Bottom line is that if it is available, you should be paying for it at the time of the phone call, not at the time of check-in. If you don't pay... theres no gaurentee.

That's a good idea about the original mailing we received after booking. I know we have one, I just have to locate it. The problem I am having with getting a quote from their website, is that when I put the information in it tells me there are no rooms available at GF and therefore, I can't get the quote. Maybe I need to look somewhere else to put the dates in.

We still don't know what happened to our reservation but after a long conversation with the travel company, they were able to override the system and put us back at our original reservation. They did have a record of our initial request for a MK View. Two or three months ago we added a night to our stay and the thought is that at that time the reservation was mistakenly changed to Lagoon View. I am still nervous about actually getting the MK View because the system still shows that none are available at that time. I don't know if fluff is built into their system or if they overbook and deal with it at checkin. The agent who handled this for us went ahead and accepted payment for the difference in MK and Lagoon View so we will just see what room we get when we arrive.

I do wonder if they are short on MK Views because of the renovations taking place at the GF this summer.

Well, the addition of the MK view category was a fairly recent addition to Disney's systems. I'm wondering if it had actually happened when you made your original reservation or whether when you originally booked it was for a Lagoon view room category with a request for MK view. I think the Grand Floridian was the last of the monorail resorts to convert their room classifications. Doesn't really matter now as Disney was able to make some magic happen and put you into the MK view room category.
