Actually, the instructions are more like this.

When you see an objctionable poster, click on the 'profile' button at the bottom of the post.

Then, click on the 'Add to my ignore list' at the bottom of their profile. You won't see their message, you'll instead get a placeholder that says'you have this user on your ignore list, click here to view the post'.

I never equated the amount of points that anyone has to anything on this board so I can not take credit for this particular rant. I have seen this person over-react to some of my posts. I don't usually read people's posts on a thread that I have posted on but with this indiviual I did checked back and found over re-action, like they were somehow directed at him or her.
I will say this that whoever the poster is refering to whether in part is me, those of us on this board have seen this before, the calling, "sell you points", to someone that has upset them. All I can say is don't pay any attention to these over reactions-this board is in dire need of balance.

Awesome. Thanks pmcpmc! There are a couple people that I would rather "ignore". Thanks for the tip.

As for DVC... IMHO it doesn't matter how many points you have - even 50 bought from a resale or something. Disney is not cheap. When you factor in dues, park passes, transportation costs, the expensive WDW food, etc. I don't think anyone would in their right mind think WDW is a cheap place to vacation. We are all very blessed. I'm sure most of us could not even fathom this, but there are I'm sure many people that would like to come to WDW even once, but can't afford even the values. How many times have you heard that once in a lifetime trip? If I'm thinking about the same person as the OP I once read this person had a problem with the values being built because it brought in people I guess they don't want to come across. They felt since they had spent money to stay at the Grand Floridian they should only come in contact with the wealthy and others staying at other resorts shouldn't be allowed to eat at the GF restaurants. Unbelievable. How sad to think that way.

We started off with 150 points, then added another 50 shortly after. To us, our DVC is our only real splurge (Well, besides all my hubby's baseball expenses...) I stay at home with the kids and I spend our money very carefully. For example, we ate at home more these last couple months so I could put away the spending money for our trip next week. We are not rich compared to probably alot of DVC owners, but to the rest of the world? I imagine they would think we live like royalty. As long as we pay our dues no matter how many points we have we BELONG in DVC.

As my GreatGrandFather would say, Others can not insult you, unless "you" allow it.

I don't agree with everything everyone posts, but never would it run me away unless I wanted to leave. I mean it's a written forum not like a bully beating the crap out of you on the playground.

I do think some, not referring to any one person in particular, so no flaming, are too sensitive for active participation in Internet Forums. You have to let it just roll off you and not take it personally.

It's like going to a huge party, you will find some people you like and others you don't. As others said ignore those you don't and go on enjoying the party with those you do.

Personally I think it would be a very boring party if everyone was the same though. :)

I will say that the written language is at times hard to get across the way you want it to. I know at times I have trouble trying to express what I really want to say. Probably comes from being young and not having alot of life experience.

Also I have friends that work for Disney and sometimes my passion for them overides my judgement. I know how hard they work, how underpaid most are and sometimes I get defensive of them. Apology given.

I figure if one person benefits from something that someone else has to say it is worth the effort. Many times people read the forums and never post so you never know who you have shared info with.

I do think some need to respect the differences of others. For example I don't smoke, but I can respect the rights of those that do and they do have rights. I appreciate them being respectful of mine.

Don't let it keep you away because of one person.

Well, I'm one of the evil "renters"(smile) and everyone here has been absolutely wonderful answering my questions about Old Key West. I suppose it is just me, but I tend to try and assume that the limitations of written communication are what can cause problems sometimes and that not assuming someone is intentionally being mean helps keep my blood pressure down.

We bought in December on a visit to WDW right before leaving on a Disney Cruise. We missed the notice about the DVC get together the second day, but saw the notice about DVC meeting regarding adding on. Even though we weren't ready to add on we decided to check it out.

When the meeting started there were only two couples present. There we were with our 150 points and had been members for 3 days.

The other couple had been members since the first year and had 1,200 points.

Guess what? We got along just fine!

Please, please don't put me on the ignore button. My wife already did that, and it hurts. I have to laugh at all the people on this board that think one posters comments mean anything, including mine. I read this board because we all have a lot in common. We enjoy WDW, we enjoy our families, and we enjoy our DVC. I am relitively new to DVC and I will say for the most part the people here are very friendly and helpful. As are the people on the other parts of the Dis forums. I have learned a lot about people reading these boards and I think the biggest thing is that we are all different. What makes one person happy isn't going to make everyone happy. When I see a poster name come up I know before I read what,he/she has to say before I read it. Some people are negative ALL the time, some people chose to be positive all the time. I chose to be thick skinned,I am not hurt or disturbed by anything that is said on an anonomous board. Remember what they say about opinions and axx xxxxx, everybodys got one.

Back to your regularly scheduled broadcast.

PS I don't care if you own zero points or 2000 .

I really don't understand the level of sensitivity that causes people to totally stop posting?? If you don't agree with a comment made by another poster, then say so, why shrink into the background. You don't have to get into a back an forth argument.

Take away all the controversial topics/threads and you'll have the "DVC welcome home board".....BORING. We are not all "Stepford Disney Fans". We can have different opinions.

"Pile on attacks" occur on all the boards, and many times it's the "Real Disney fans" trying to run off the "Faux Disney fans".

I don't have anyone on my ignore list, because I want to hear everyones opinion. Even posters is disagree often, I'll agree with on certain topics.

Keep posting.

Wow! I guess I missed something.

Just thought I'd share something I saw on the Travel Channel today.

http://www.residensea.com/

If anyone is feeling a little TOO superior about their DVC points, maybe they should take a look at that timeshare. Apparently the MINIMUM level of personal assets required to purchase is $5 million. :earseek:

The company spokeperson mentioned that the average was MUCH higher than the minimum in a rather snobby tone. Makes you wonder if some poor multi-millionaire is being snubbed by the others because he owns fewer points. ;)

Please share you opinions, and realize that most everyone seems supportive. BTW I live at the budget boards/ own DVC/ own 3 other homes. I'm definatly not the demographic either!!! Oh, and I too have less than the million points currently needed. Darn that cigar!!!

I think the point that is being missed is that posters don't have to snipe, belittle and judge one another. You can very easily state your own, honest opinion without insulting others.

And when you feel that a poster's negativity far outweighs anything useful they share with the community, that ignore feature comes in mighty handy. Thanks for the reminder!

Wow! I must be alone here. Not to defend certain behavior such as hatred or all out attacks but I though everyone was generally amused by the subject poster. Everyone knows what to expect and I actually thought people egg them on for fun. Kinda like the kid in school everyone would egg on and watch them get into trouble and then everyone would laugh at them. People have even called on this person for their reaction and to help start fires because they know their reactions. There have also been a LOT of threads that people started or that led into threads making fun of this person because everyone knew how they feel on many specific subjects. It's funny because in irony I think of Howard Stern with regards to the subject. ;) I'm not a Howard fan but I find his shocking behavior similarly amusing. Everyone is different. It's just some provide more color.
