Does anyone have any experience with using mesh backpacks in the parks? I thought they might be cooler than using a nylon/cloth backpack. Not looking to haul around a bunch of stuff...maybe just a water bottle, hand sanitizer, poncho and spare shoes. thank you.

Everything except the shoes you could put in some cargo short pockets... and I just wear sandals. Really like going 'no bag' as it is much cooler, and don't have to go through bag check.
But if going with mesh bag, sure it would be cooler ..but what kind of straps does it have ? Those draw string type ones would get annoying after a while would think unless really light.

In my experience, mesh likes to get caught and it rips easily. I learned the hard way at a crappy amusement park years ago that Mesh and I don't mix well. When you're getting on and off rides quickly, your bag could potentially snag on things. One little catch and my mesh bag has a huge hole in it. I avoid Nylon for much the same reason. I work in a school and I see those Nylon drawstring bags unraveling after the kid pokes a pen through it by accident.

I use one of the Disney cinch ones with thicker straps (They're around $23 or less) and it isn't terribly hot or gross-feeling on my back. (IMHO, there is nothing that keeps me cool in a Florida Summer except for Florida AC!) It isn't like a traditional backpack in feel I don't think the drawstrings are terribly annoying at all. I can basically whip it on and whip it off pretty easily, which comes in handy. I have had the same one for about 7 years. I had a friend go and buy me a replacement and I have it brand new and ready to go. I haven't had to use it yet.

If you have the mesh bag already, give it a try. Best case scenario, it works and you love it. Worst case scenario, you hate it and you'll buy a bag in the parks or try again next trip.

Cargo shorts are a rare animal in women's clothing these days. Forget about regular pockets in women's shorts, too. They are too small to fit my iPhone 6s. I'm ready to purchase men's shorts just so I can go bagless.

I hadn't thought about the backpacks ripping. That was smart! I might try one and report back.

I have been experimenting with one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075F3BPMX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is ripstop nylon so even if it snags and does rip, it won't simply tear open like a stubborn bag of chips! I've been using it for the past few weeks as an experiment and it is really light, comfortable and even in late 80degree weather it isn't that bad. The best thing is that it all folds up into a small pouch for storage etc... This will be given a thorough test in a month when we go for to DW for 2 weeks! However, as of now I can say that I am really enjoying it.
