Hoping some cruisers will let us all know how the Gingerbread House tickets are being dispersed this year. When they put the meet/greet tickets and character breakfast tickets online, it was surprising that they didn't do the gingerbread ones as well. Would really appreciate if anyone can give us a heads up where to get them.

I am also interested to know. We leave Dec 5th. The last time we went they were sold out by 4pm on day 1.

I would be curious to what time of day they have the classes. I know they are typically on sea days.

Is the gingerbread activity offered on 3 night cruises? I am going on a 3 night merrytime cruise on the dream next week and haven't been able to figure this out.

Yes, it's offered on 3 night cruises. You should be able to see a write up for it on the first Navigator (embarkation day) as to where/when to pick up tickets.

At this time, it appears that the Gingerbread house building is not one of the pre-cruise offerings. You can only get the tickets once onboard.

What are the tickets for? You build it? I haven't been on dcl in years but when they had a gingerbread house it was just something to look at.

You get the parts, freshly baked, a bag of royal icing, and two packages of candies (one set per family). Then the CM walks you through assembly...then you get to decorate as you would like. A few observations:
  • the gingerbread was absolutely delicious (was definitely freshly baked)...and I know gingerbread...
  • the packages of candies are small...if you have several kids you might want to bring some additional candy to decorate with (Necco waffers as roof tiles, for example). I was just in the store and saw that Wilton now has "parts" to decorate gingerbread houses ($4.99 per pack) including wreaths, etc. I already have a few small packs of candy packed
  • when you walk back to your cabin carrying the completed house, everyone will stop you asking where you got it and how to get one for themselves
  • if the ship is rocking, it is much harder to build the house (but not impossible)
  • your cabin will smell terrific
  • you cannot take the house off the ship so you'll snack away, destroying the house
  • the event offers very special family memories, IMHO
The lobby has a huge gingerbread house - completely different from this activity

I asked for tickets while booking with shoreside concierge, and they told me that it's something you do while onboard. With that in mind, I would make that my #1 priority. We are sailing out on the Dream the same day, Dec 5th, and gingerbread house tickets are on the top of my list to get! :D

A note, we did the gingerbread house on our Fantasy cruise in 2014. Because I have multiple food allergies the ingredients were a potential concern. They explained they use a purchased kit with DCL's own icing. Because they couldn't guarantee the gingerbread ingredients it was suggested I not eat it. Disappointing, but the stateroom still smelled sooooooo yummy :-) Also, they had gloves available for those who did not want to get all mucky or otherwise needed a barrier for their hands.

Dont know if they still use the kits or not.

Ahh, that sounds like a blast! Good info

Can adults do this? I am assuming it once house per family correct?
Oh, yes, our house was built by two adults...

Thanks for the picture! That looks really fun.

Which date/time do they usually have this event on the 3 night cruise?
We were on the Wonder so I don't know about the 3 day...they don't publish the days/times in the Navigator....instead, you get tickets from Guest Services and they'll tell you your options when you go to get the tickets...but the event won't be listed in the Navigator.....so the only way you can find out the day/time options is to find DISboard members who attended the event on the 3 day

Are tickets at Guest Services or the Port Adventure desk? Last year it was the Port Adventure desk. That is what I am trying to find out so I am not running around hunting them.

When we were on the Wonder, the tickets were in Guest services but I don't board the Fantasy until 12/3 to report for that ship...

You just got off the Wonder?? Can you start getting them the moment you board? We are on the Fantasy the 10th :)

We board on the 20th and this is one of the first things I am going to do after we board! I have to get tickets for this. My kids will love it!

We did this last year.
I got in line at guest services as soon as we boarded.
It was one house per stateroom. I was traveling in a 4-room family group, and my boarding time was earlier than the others.
They let me reserve tickets for all four rooms, even though I was alone in the line. They let me choose the session (ours was 11 am Christmas morning), and delivered the tickets to our room later.

In addition to PP's comments, I will warn you that the assembly directions given go very fast. I guess it's the pastry chef walking you through it- he can do it very quickly and we were racing to keep up. As soon as the session ends, they rush you out - finished or not. There will be another session they need to set up for.

It was great fun!!
