I was actually surprised. But the more I thought about it, the more it became like, "DUH!" Of course I look back now at Family Ties and see it. But when I was watching it all for the first time, I was young and naive, and didn't even know what a lesbian was...
I was raised Catholic...I didn't know about homosexuality until I was 15...

Back in the day, when Family Ties was on tv, all of my friends were giddy about how cute and adorable Michael J. Fox was. I was having a secret crush on Elyse. She is my one and only older woman celebrity crush. When she did the CBS Schoobreak Special, "Other Mothers" I watched in secret. It was so neat seeing this woman playing a role that had her being a lesbian. Oh how I wanted her to be a lesbian.

Meredith Baxter is 20 years older than I am. I still think she looks damn good for her age. If I was single, I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eatin' crackers.

For the older among us, don't forget Bridget Loves Birney. I loved that show. I was only 8 when it was on. But while my parents were very conservative catholics in some ways, they let me watch anything including that and All in the Family. We don't let my kids watch iCarly or the later Hannah Montana's because we feel they're inappropriate, yet when I was my kids' ages I watched whatever was on.

Nancy....how funny. Speaking of Facts of life, Blaire, is on the Women of Faith circuit and she's one of their hosts. My partner's sister is one of the directors and introduced Christy to her this past Oct. Christy said she's gorgeous and VERY down to earth. Has alot of negative things to say about how the cast was treated on FOL. Christy also holds out hope that Nancy will come out!

Actually, when I was in college, I wanted to form a girl band called the Blonde Doms. We'd have a single called "Lipstick Lesbians". I figured that after every straight man in America bought our first album we could get rid of our dye jobs, throw away our leather bustiers and take our royalties and live, if not in the lap of luxury, at least on the knees of comfort as the saying goes, for the rest of our natural lives.

Alas, I was stopped by a distinct lack of talent.


As someone who once scored 100% fem on a feminine/masculine personality test along with a friend who was and still is a Soccer Mom lesbian. . .yeah. We talk the same talk, act the same way. . .we just choose different sexes of spouses.

I didn't realize she was married 3 times.
I also wonder how did she not know this about herself until 7 years ago, forgive me if I am being ignorant, is that possible?
