I added a day to my June reservation. I did online chat to get MS to merge, and she told me she had to put in a message to have it merged. And now it's been 4 days. When did MS lose the ability to merge-I've done this by phone plenty of times in the past.

I assume it’s due to how busy they have been and due to short staffing. That’s the way the MS person implied when I had a similar issue.

There have recently been several reports like yours. Most of us believe it's due to the number of new MS CMs. Many of them do not yet have the ability/training to merge reservations. It's also probably more efficient to do this "behind the scenes" when the phones and chat lines are especially busy. My belief is that they work the requests in the order of arrival date. I know it's maddening to have to wait, so hope you see the combined reservation on your dashboard soon.

It has been quite a few months that they are doing it. But, I requests a July merge a few weeks ago, and it took about 4 days to have it done. So, it should happen soon. If not, I might chat again and simply ask them to put in another request.

Yes, it’s been a few months now that you have to put a request in. Make sure you don’t wait until it’s adr time, or you will not be able to book all of your ADRs. I usually email them. The last time I did it (about 2 weeks ago) it took 4 days but they only merged 3 of the 4 reservations so had to request again to finish the merge. Today is day 4, nothing yet.

Yes, I suspect it varies , but it seems to be more commonly done that way. I know that after I first heard of the "submit and wait" way of merging reservations, I called to merge a reservation, and had it done right then. But I guess it was a slow time. The next time I went to merge a reservation and called, I got the "submit and wait" reply.

I'm new to DVC so pardon my ignorance, but what causes this to happen?

If you have June 3-9 and you want June 3-10, why would you book a one-night reservation for June 9 rather than just modifying the original reservation in the online tool and extending it yourself?

Not sure about others, but if I see a day I want I book it immediately. To modify you have to get out of that search screen, open your dashboard, wait for it to load, find your reservation, click to modify, wait for it to load. Click the next screen, modify your date, click to check availability, click to get to the points screen, click to get to the guest screen, then click to get to the acceptance screen. Check box and submit, start praying as the blue circle of death spins and hope the dwarfs don’t pop up. After all this, I click to dashboard and hope it’s there. I’ve lost too many hard to get extra days trying to modify…. Thats my reason…😆

Interesting. Like I said, I'm new, but when I've been looking to add a day, I'm already doing the searching within "Modify" in the first place.

Sometimes it happens with staking and waitlisting when you can’t get all nights and booK a split stay.

In July, I had to book one night SV and one night PV in a studio at RIV and waitlist. I then snagged it during stalking so I ended up with two one night stays so needed to merge them.

Can't you do the stalking within the original reservation? In other words, rather than starting a new search when you're going to stalk, hit modify and do the stalking there.

Stalked a succession of single days to put together a week at Beach Club. Asked for a merge on Chat and I think it took about a week.

In my case I could not because I had a different night booked. For example, I booked Thursday in PV and Friday in SV.

I put the wait list in for Thursday but stalked and was able to modify the PV to SV but ended up with two reservations.

Now, when I saw the room, I could have canceled the PV, then modified the Friday night to add Thursday, but the risk was that I could lose it.

So, when I see it, I grab it. Another time I had a split stay of 2 and 2 and wanted it as 1 and 3. So, I didn’t want to modify first to drop a night and then modify to pick it up,

Another example is when I book a room with home resort points and then at 7 months try to change a few nights with non home resort points.

Much easier and safer to just book, and merge!

Now, if I am replacing all or just adding to what is booked, then yes I do the modify feature. But some situations require me to book new first.

I added a day at the beginning of my trip at Poly villas in April I am wondering if it is even worth it to try and merge with my ADR day coming up Feb 19 th. I don’t want it to screw things up if there is a delay. What are the disadvantages of not merging? Thoughts? And thanks!

People may also not have the points to add onto one while holding onto the other and as we know if you take the time to cancel one the night might be taken by somebody else while you cancel the original.

Another example for myself — last summer we had 3 nights in a BWV Pool View, followed by 1 night in a Boardwalk View, followed by 3 nights in a Pool View. This was not by choice but because of what was available. The Pool View came available for the one night we had the Boardwalk View (this was filled via a waitlist). I then had 3 separate reservations. So I asked them to merge.

If you don’t merge, you have to make sure there is a note on each so that you can be assigned to the same room for all 4 nights.

I would request the merge as there is plenty of time for it to be done before your 60 day mark for ADR.

Just a word of caution - I WL a BWV 1 Br Std for Dec 4 that came thru earlier in the week and called to have it merged with my Dec 5-6 ressie (checking out Dec 7) for the same unit - they ended up merging Dec 4 with Dec 5 and dropping Dec 6…I noticed it and was able to grab Dec 6 back but now I’m very nervous about calling to merge again…

Doesn't it also affect you ability to book ADRs at 60+ days out?

If 2 reservations are needed for a 4 night stay (2 nights each reservation), then you would only be able to book ADRs for the first 2 days: 60 days out and 61 days out. Then 2 days later, you woukd be able to book the last 2 days of ADRs. if you had 1 reservation, all 4 days worth of ADRs could be booked 60 days from the 1st day of your reservation.
