Meredith's explanation to Matthew...

Meredith failed to give ANY explanation! She all but outright admitted that she had lied. That is why Matthew said that it helped him to understand it all a little better, but it was obvously not what he had wanted to hear. I too have lost all respect for Meredith....

So, If she KNEW that she was 'in love' with Ian, and was going to choose him, then what the heck would it matter what Matthews feelings were and where his head was out. Mute Point.... Where Matthews feelings were at would only matter if she were still considering him.... That lame excuse for her big LIE was simply yet ANOTHER LIE!!!

As far as I can see, there is absolutely NO excuse for telling such a hurtful lie. In either case, Meredith told Matthew a cruel lie that night, or she is telling a lie now when she says that she always knew it was Ian.

Even Ian seemed more sincere and more hurt over the whole thing than Meredith did! I could see it in his face! I think he is even wondering how his beloved Meredith could have done that. He even said the hard part about keeping the outcome secret was sometimes being put in the position where he had to lie.

I was beginning to think that I was watching the best piece of reality TV ever produced... Until I now realize to Meredith, it was NOT reality, but just putting on a big show.

And, what was with that horrible UGLY dress that she wore for the 'After the Rose'??? I thought it was Hideous, not a pretty or 'natural' outfit at all.... I think the 'REAL' Meredith is now showing through.

Actually Disykat, ALL of the "losers" have always done the "After the Final Rose" show, as well as GMA and a couple of local news programs. It is in their contract that they have to do a certain amount of press engagements. I don't think Matthew has done any more than anyone else.

Also, I have yet to see him whine. He has handled this with a lot of class, and has said on more than one occasion that he thinks Meredith made the right choice for HER and that he wishes them well. I'm not sure what else people could want from him.

All of the other "losers" on the Bachelor have lost and disappeared. Matthew is getting a lot of air time whining. I wonder if he is getting paid to do it. I'm not buying it.

All of the other losers have seemed to realize that it is a tv show and the whole point is for no one to know until the last night. Matthew took losing with grace initially. I understand that he is hurt - all of them have been. I don't think continuing to push the issue seems "real". He could easily blow it off publically and then contact Meredith privately for an explanation - I think he is being advised to play up the big cute hurt guy thing.

I don't see Meredith as having "lied" any more than any of the other bachelors. They've all done it - they are required to in order to keep the final choice a secret. Trista also says that she knew she was going to pick Ryan - yet everything was pointing towards her picking Charlie. Same with all the other bachelor shows.

I actually thought Trista would pick Ryan....could see it in her eyes when they were together.
Same with Meredith and Matthew....hence my shock!

I think Meredith was different than the others. She told outward lies.....most of the others danced around things...and avoided answering hard questions.

For the people who offer up their hearts, this is not just a tv show......I feel for Matthew....and I think he has a lot of class and a lot of heart...especially since he is still hurting....proves it was not just a fling for him.

I obviously have a very different opinion than most here. I liked Ian, I thought all along they were making it too obvious that Meredith liked him too. I never saw the huge connection with Matthew - I thought she looked more and more uncomfortable with him as time went on.

I think Matthew seems like a wonderful guy. I just don't think it fits his gentlemanly persona to push the hurt guy thing. That's why I think as part of the tv show he is being encouraged to. It is a tv show - IMO much of what we see is somewhat scripted.

I hardly see Matthew as being insincere. The show didn't allow contact of any kind after the final rose, even Kelli Jo talked about that. She said you have no closure, and I think Matthew wants closure AND to get the answers that I think 80% of the fans of the Bachelor want to know.

This is the most unscripted stuff I've seen on any reality show. He's wearing his heart on his sleeve, very similar to how Trista did after the first one. She, too, was told by the first Bachelor not to worry because she is the ONE. Then he blows her off.... hmmmmm...

I don't doubt that the dramatics are great fodder for the publicity dept of ABC, but for once, I'm convinced it's real. Whining and asking for answers are two different things.

The one thing he has truly succeeded in is making Meredith look BAD. She will never redeem herself in my eyes after last night's fiasco. I'm glad she's happy but she hasn't heard the end of the wrath of the fans.

Think about it, she was more convincing than most actresses, even the one Bachelor Bob is dating.

I missed the Final Rose but I hope Matthew got closure and meets a girl that is worthy of him.

And Meredith HAD to finish the show. I'm sure she can't say "no I don't want a ring from you." And when I heard her say "I would be honored to recieve a ring from you" I took it as, IF I pick you I would be honored to recieve a ring from you. NOT, I would be honored to recieve a ring from you BECAUSE I am going to pick you. And she did say last night that she felt honored that he would want to give her a ring. That he cared about her that much. I think that is why she phrased it like she did. And I honestly think she did like him and thought he was a great guy and maybe, under other circumstances, it might have been him.
I think it has a lot to do with what he WANTED to believe and his feelings for Meredith were so strong that he heard what he wanted to hear. JMHO.

Does anyone remember Andrew/Kirstin/Jen? He said he knew early on that the choice was Jen. The show led us to believe it would be Kirstin. The reason no one was mad about that was because we couldn't stand her! LOL!

Well, I never watched the show, but sometimes I would see clips from the show or pics of her in magazines and I thought to myself "why in the world do they have such a PLAIN looking woman as the Bachelorette"? I always thought they had beautiful people on those shows, but that woman even borders on funny looking.
So last night, I was channel-surfing and I came across this clip of that "rose ceremony" so I sat and watched. Oh my gosh, not only is she funny-looking, but she is a b!tch too! What did she do, lead that poor guy on so that she could have a "back-up" plan available or what? I felt so bad for him. And what does the guy who she is engaged to think of her now that he heard what the other guy had to say? I guess he is probably clouded by "love" or whatever else you call it when 2 people hook up on one of those shows.

She, like Bob, was chosen because they were favorite "losers" from a previous show. Meredith lost her grandmother during the Bachelor Bob show and what she went through and her maturity during the show made her a favorite. Bob was a favorite from the first Bachelorette, he was a chubby funny guy that everybody liked. The only thing they have in common now is they've sort of fallen off their so-called "popular" status due to being the choosers instead of the losers.

Jenn Lynn, Meredith said to Matthew (now this is VERBATIM) "SINCE I met you, I would be honored if it ended with a ring." He asked her if she was sure about that and she said "yes." I don't think it was too much hidden in that. I'm sure you can interpret anything in it but I heard what he heard and I'm not in love.... he heard that she "put it on the line" with "no doubt." That was why she was squirming like a worm on the show last night.

I kind of have to agree with pw2pp, I never thought that Meredith was all that attractive, not that that really matters.

If I were a betting person (and I'm not) I'd be willing to bet a bundle that her and Ian do not make it. She said she was looking for a husband and I think Matthew would have been perfect for her. He really seemed to love her and would have been a great husband and treated her like a queen. I also believe she led Matthew on by the things she said, and if she knew in her heart she was going to pick Ian, she should have kept her words to a minimum.

I think she picked Ian because he was a challenge to her, a man of mystery so to speak. Besides he was really cute (at least I thought so) and sexy. But, I really don't think they go together at all.

AND WILL SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE HECK KIND OF SHOES/BOOTS SHE WAS WEARING... THOSE BIG GOOFY LOOKING THINGS??

You know what I don't get? Is if she wanted this mysterious man and this spontaneous lifestyle, then why the heck was she on this show to begin with!

Since day 1 she has stressed how she is 30, her clock is ticking, she wanted to settle down, have kids, blah, blah, blah. So if this was true, then why on earth would she have not picked the "safe" guy. If that is what she REALLY WANTED out of this show, then why is it that she went for Ian?

I'm still wondering what's up with his parents? Something just doesn't seem right, as to why he didn't have her meet them...

Also, did anyone notice how the night he visited her parents, when he was asked why he was attracted to her? All he did was say things regarding the way she makes him feel... not, she is warm-hearted, fun loving, great personality, blah-blah-blah... just ALL about him! I tend to agree with the others that think there is something strange about him!
