Day 6 & 7 - Monday & Tuesday - September 22 & 23, 2003

We awoke at 10am Monday morning feeling like we'd been there forever. Isabel had in effect turned out 4 day trip into a 6 day trip and honestly, we were all ready to go home to the little fur-faces. But first we had some loose ends to tie up. Laura made a list and we headed out.

First up was breakfast at Islands of Adventure. We wanted to try something other than Croissant Moon so we trotted on over to the Green Eggs and Ham Cafe feeling certain that the breakfast offerings would go beyond the restaurant name. Wrong, and not being in a Seussian state of mind, we chose Cinnabon. Laura and I split a bag of Cinnastix while Mary chose something a little on the gooier side.

In the window of Cinnabons were displayed SpongeBob drink containers. I had seen these throughout the park and was curious about one particular detail so I asked the attendant, "What is that pink water droplet next to SpongeBob"? She tried to suppress her incredulous laughter and replied, "Ma'am, that's a starfish". By this time Mary was looking mortified - she's more hip to the current cartoons than I am. "How could you think that it is a water droplet?" "Well if it's a starfish then where are its arms?" "They're there they are just really tiny." "Ok, but you have to admit, it could easily be a pink water droplet." Mary knows how to pick her battles and I'm left feeling like it was an honest mistake.

After breakfast we head back towards the Lost Continent with the intention of catching the 12:30 Poseidon's Fury show. On the way over we ride the Cat in the Hat and start the day- long critter sitter shopping that we've been putting off all week. We used our FOTL cards to bypass the queue and had good viewing throughout the attraction by knowing where the action was going to be and steering ourselves in that direction. Well, I should say "good viewing" until the right lense of my glasses popped out in my hand right as we were going through the most impressive part of the show.

I won't spoil this but there is a part where you leave a dry cool place and enter someplace that is not. It was at this point that I removed my glasses to clear them and found myself holding the lense. Somehow, luck was on my side and the next thing I felt was the teeny-tiny itty-bitty little screw hitting my palm. I squinted and followed Mary for the remainder of the show.

Here's a tip for you - the First Aid station right behind the Pearl Factory has the little screw drivers (and even spare screws) to make glasses repairs. Before being directed to First Aid, we tried all sorts of implements including the long nails of the Pearl Factory attendants but nothing really works like those little screw drivers.

All fixed up and back on our way, we circled back around the park and stopped in most of the shops. But I was hot and having a hard time picking out something for the pet-sitters so we consulted Laura's list and exited to the Hard Rock for lunch.

The Hard Rock was a lot larger than I expected - there was a whole upper level that was not being used. The food was fine and the waiter nice. 1 pulled pork sandwich + 1 jerk chicken sandwich + 1 haystack salad + drinks = $48 with tax and tip.

After lunch, we went over to the Studios for a final walk around and some more shopping. We ordered ice-cream at the stand outside the International Food & Film and went inside to watch film clips subtitled in some Scandinavian language. Next to us a Japanese family dined while a German family was entertained by their father who was singing American pop songs.

We said goodbye to the Studios and proceeded to the next on Laura's list - which was to have a Hurricane at Pat O'Briens. The piano bar was not yet open, so we bellied up to the bar on the other side of the alley. This side of Pat O'Briens was really nothing special - it could have been any bar in any neighborhood. But the bartender was cordial and the drinks were good. Laura's Hurricane at $8.95 turned out to be quite a deal as both Mary and I ordered another round in the time it took Laura to get to the bottom of her drink.

On the way out, we were awarded complimentary beads with the color of the strand being dictated by the awarded. I got purple because of my "vibrant personality" (his words not mine). Maybe the alcohol was giving me a vibrant glow?

We zigged and zagged down to the Margaritaville shop where I finally found gifts suitable for the pet-sitters. They had recently been on vacation in Key West and had raved about the visit. I figured if they couldn't make it back soon, they could at least sit on their deck and pretend. That is with a little help from the goodies in Margaritaville.

With shopping and most of the things on our list complete, we walked back to RPR to start packing for the trip home.

The next morning, we meet our Happy Limo driver out front at 11am and head to the airport for our 1:30pm departure. The trip back is uneventful but seems to take a long time compared to the trip down. We're back in Vermont by 6pm and back home to the old farmhouse by 7. The cats are pleased to see us and we're glad to be back in our own beds.

I loved reading all your trip reports, thanks! I always need to get something for the pet sitters also. The last time we were at Universal my little one eyed rescue dog, broke his nail and left a huge trail of blood around the house. The horrifed pet sitters had to take him in to vet and when I came home he had a cast like thing on. It was too funny to see my one eyed dog, hobbling around on three legs. The other three fur kids were fine - but I made sure I brought home some nice Hard Rock shirts for the pet sitters two babies, LOL

Great reports!!!! Thank you for sharing. I loved them all. When you said the Hard Rock in downtown disney did you mean Planet Hollywood? I have never seen a Hard Rock in that area, but I could be wrong.

Thanks again!

Wonderful trip report ~ Thanx for sharing.
