Merced to Yosemite

I am planning a tript to Yosemite and found a hotel in Merced, CA.

Is that a bad commute in May?

Also, if staying in Merced, am I better off flying into Sacramento or San Jose?

It depends on the day of the week and time. During the weekends the traffic is bad.

You should fly into Sacramento or Fresno. The route from San Jose isn't direct and takes forever.

Does leaving really early on a Saturday help with traffic?

How long of a ride is it from the Sacramento airport?

That's a long drive, at least 1 1/2 hours to get to the valley would be my guess. We stayed at the Cedar Lodge in El Portal (one of the closest locations to the Arch Rock entrance) and still had about a 30-minute drive to get to the valley. It took us around three hours to drive to the Sacramento Airport.
