Menu Prices and Tax

Just trying to budget daily $$ and tips, etc. and I can't remember if the DIS and All Ears menu prices already have tax added on, or do I need to remember to add in the 6.5%(?) on top of the prices?

Tax and tip are not included in menu prices

If you have the Dining Plan taxes are already included, you'll only have to pay tips at the TS restaurants. You'll also have to pay for any alcoholic beverages or extras you choose to order.

I'm just trying to figure out my tip budget - whether it's 20% of menu prices or 20% of [menu price + tax] if that makes any sense...

You never tip on the tax amount, that money is going to the government (that is, unless you want to tip the government,LOL)! You base your tip on the pre-tax amount of the meal.

My personal general rule of thumb is to look at the bill and double the tax to determine the amount for tip.

Of course, it depends on the tax rate in that state/city. In my area, the tax rate is 7.6%. I usually round the tax amount to the next dollar and then double it.....(that would give >15% tip)

Florida is 6.5% so twice the tax isn't quite enough if the service is good. For good service I am planning about 3 times the tax.
