I'm taking my BFF to WDW in less than a month (YAY!) - and when I say "BFF", I mean it - we've been best friends since our freshman year in college (cough*1981*cough). She did the Mom thing in a big way, and really hasn't been on a true vacation since her honeymoon with her first husband 26 years ago. She rarely gets to eat out - and I sometimes suspect that she is more interested in the restaurants than the parks!

That's the background, here's the situation.

1. We're doing Deluxe Dining (I've done it twice before) - all the ADRs are made.

2. A little over 2 years ago I had gastric bypass surgery. I've done the DxDDP once since then. I'm totally at peace with the fact that I can't eat enough to "get my money's worth" - I'd rather eat a little GOOD food off the ADULT menu than save money. I'm on vacation! And, like I said, I'm doing this for my friend.

3. My body no longer likes carbs (and isn't overly fond of dairy either). If I eat too many, I feel bloated and yucky for about an hour or so. I'd heard about this, but not really experienced it much, because I prepare my own meals, and since I can't eat much, I focus on the protein & some veggies - and it doesn't come up.

Last year, at WDW, I spent a lot of time feeling yucky. A couple bites here and there, and it wasn't good.

I need a strategy. Thanks to the surgery, I don't have to AVOID foods, so much as find something good, and after a few bites I can't eat the "bad" stuff, no matter how good it looks.

So - what are some high protein, low carb dishes - or even parts of dishes - or choices on buffets? ESPECIALLY appetizers (God knows I want the beer-battered onion rings like nobody's business - even if they'll make me sick!). I may only eat a bite or two, but even that can undo me (when combined with whatever comes later). We're going to be there for 10 days. We're going to most of the park restaurants at least once, and a large number of the resort - non-signature dining - places too.

Any dish recommendations? Things that will make my mouth water and distract me from the evil, yummy stuff?

Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! :worship:

Sorry I can't help with your question, but I can refer you to the disabilities forum. There the "food" gurus know the ins and outs of everything dealing with food issues.
I think if you post there you will get quicker help and more experienced diners.

Good luck, have fun and you are wonderful to help your friend in this way!!

I'd recommend reviewing restaurant menus so you can make your choices ahead of time or at least see what restaurants appeal to you and your special needs. There seemed to be a steak with potatoe and brocolli entree at just about every TS we visited. Good luck, we love the DxDDP too :cool1:
