We're heading to Mississippi for my cousin's wedding in August & we're considering making a week-long vacation out of it. We'll be close to Memphis & wanted to know some fun things to do there with our 4 year old & 2 year old daughters. After Memphis I thought we'd head to Nashville but hubby suggested Atlanta so suggestions for those cities would be great too. We're from Cleveland so if there are any other suggestions for stops between Orford, MS & CIeveland, we're all ears! TIA!

I live in Nashville so maybe I can help.

I don't feel like there is a lot to do for small kiddos. It will be very hot, fyi. There is the adventure science center, Cheekwood gardens, walk thru shops in the tourist district, explore lake radnor. That is all I can really think of. I am sure there is more to do that I am overlooking. Maybe driving out to one of the kayak rental places and floating down the river would be good if you have a nice sunny day.

I'm just Northeast of Oxford! Welcome to MS!

Which way do y'all plan to come? From Nashville to Oxford would not include Memphis or Atlanta.

There's fun things to do in Nashville. They have a water park. Opry Mills mall and Gaylord in addition to Music Row, Grand Ole Opry and the like. You could spend 2-3 days in Nashville easily.

Leaving Nashville, you could come down 65 to Huntsville Space Museum, which is really cool. Stop by Pointe Mallard In Decatur, AL for the day.

Florence, AL has a Marriott on the TN river and restaurant at the top that's cool for the adults or Tupelo, MS has Elvis Presley Birthplace, a neat automobile museum and a days' worth of things to do before heading over to Oxford.

Leaving Oxford, you could go up I55 to Memphis and do Graceland, the zoo, Peabody and the like - Beale street and a Redbirds game.

As pp said, it's hot in August in the south - humid, sticky hot. Most of all - have FUN!

Just saw your kids' ages. Sorry. Children's Museum of Memphis is awesome. Zoo summer nights Is cool as well.

My family is from Tupelo but my cousin is getting married at the chapel at Ole Miss. We'll be going to the wedding 1st & thought it would be fun to hit up a couple southern cities on the way home.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! Keep more coming!

Atlanta has SO much to do - especially for those ages. Zoo Atlanta is great - if for nothing else, you get to see pandas! There's a Children's Science museum, World of Coke, botanical gardens that have a fun *little* splash pad and a play area. We even recently got a giant Ferris wheel (which seems strange to me, but it is something else "to do"). Oh! I almost forgot about the Georgia Aquarium! You can get a City Pass that gets you in to multiple attractions, though I don't recall which exact ones.
I will say, the 5-or-so hour drive from ATL to Oxford is BORING!!! This past summer I took DS to visit Ole Miss, and I was dying! Make sure you gas up, eat, and go to the bathroom in Birmingham, because there is practically nothing (really, I'm not exaggerating) on the stretch of interstate between Birmingham and Oxford.
