For our August trip I want to purchase MM and DH mentioned this to my SIL who is travelling with us. She expressed an interest in putting money towards it and using it also but before I give the okay on this what are the repercussions to our individual bookings? Like, will be both still be able to make our own FP+ choices? Cause I don't want to get stuck with doing hers along with my own and then getting the blame for not getting what she wants.
We are staying offsite for the first 12 nights, then at the Poly for the last 3 nights so obviously as part of our onsite stay we will be given MBs but I wanted to buy MBs for at least one member of our party to make getting all our pictures a bit easier. How will this work with two sets of MBs for the same person and one MM? I'm completely clueless as we've never gotten PP+ in the past so have no idea how any of it really works.
Thanks in advance :)

FP+ and Memory maker are totally unrelated.

even if you add them as family and friends to share plans, you can still choose FP+ individually.
You need to tick the boxes in front of the names of the guests you want to choose FP+ for.

I don't quite understand how you intend on adding your SIL in your plans. You don't need to anyway.

Memory Maker will be added to the guest who will purchase it.
for attractions picture, only the guest who has the Memory maker entitlement (or the card you should receive in the mail) can add ride pictures to their account as you stay offsite. When you stay onsite, guests booked in the same room will also be able to add ride pictures to your account

for in-park pictures, your SIL will be able to get a photopass card from a photographer, and then you'll be able to link that card to your photopass account, and download their pictures.
but there will still be limitations when it comes to ride pictures. Unless you give them the memory maker card and use your MB
but I'm not sure if this does circumvent the terms of use of the memory maker

so if you are allowed to give your SIL the memory maker card, so she can get ride pictures, and if she uses a regular photopass card for non ride pictures, and you add them both to your account, you'll get her pictures.
no need to add her in your plans at that stage.

a Magic Band is just a key.
You can have a boxful of magic bands listed under your name, they'll access the same data and there is basically no difference wether you use one or any other band you own.

Sharing MM with you SIL will be no problem :)

Just need to link everyone up in Friends and Family. I am assuming your SIL has one account with her family, you have one with yours. You will first of all need to invite your SIL by adding a guest - then choose "By entering his or her name" and then send her an invitation. Once you have your SIL linked link the rest of the family by choosing the "From a list of people I might know" option.

You need to ensure that your have the options ticked for viewing and sharing photos and for MM you also need to have the setting to view and share all.

When booking FP+ you can book for anyone on your list but you choose the people you want to book for - not everyone has to do the same.

MBs are just a way of accessing your MDE account and the information - you can have as more than one and they can both be used at anytime - I currently have 7 active MBs ::yes::

the problem with sharing MM is related to onride pictures. I don't know what the solution is, but i'd be very careful about that.
If you and the other group are going to go to the parks separately, then when you go on attractions that have pictures, you won't get those pictures automatically added to your MM. I guess you can get the pictures after the ride, but you'll have to pay extra.

i'm not sure how it works, but the ride picture issue is the problem.

This isn't an issue anymore - anyone who is associated with a MM gets the photos automatically added to the account if you are wearing a MB. If you don't then after most rides you can tap your ticket under screen.

To get the most from MM you really need a MB as that is the only way to get the videos and the picture from 7DMT.

Sharing is no issue as long as you are all linked as friends and family in MDE unlike with the old PP+ where you had to have the actual card to get the ride photos.

That's good to know
When DD was there, only the lead person on the account was automatically added
Glad to hear they fixed that.

what about regular pictures for those without a MB, since OP's party won't have MBs (and maybe OP's SIL too)
do they still hand out photopass cards, or can the photographers scan the RFID ticket ?

The OP's family will be able to use the Memory maker card since the OP won't need it (as she states they will be getting at least one MagicBand).

Beth, I am surprised to hear that your DD had issues with only the lead person's pictures being added. When DD and I went in March, she had no problem getting pictures added to Memory Maker despite me being the lead. Additionally, when we went in October we had an extended group of 9 and very rarely were we all together but all of the pictures ended up on my MM account. Admittedly, we all had MagicBands but then your DD and her OH would have too, wouldn't they since they were staying onsite :confused3

she was told by a CM that only her MB would work in the rides - but perhaps the CM was wrong. There is a lot of incorrect information regarding the MBs/tickets/photopass/etcetc.
they never tried her husband's MB alone as only she rode alone (on dinosaur - which he can't go on because of his back). So she was the lead and it didn't matter. But they were warned - i guess incorrectly - about the MB for MM

Yes, unfortunately CMs can sometimes give incorrect information.

Yes under the monitors at the ends of the rides now they all have RFID scanners where you can SCSI a band or ticket card :thumbsup2

We were the same in July- all photos were linked from everybody's MBs.

Once photos are on the account the lead person can download them all!

thanks, but my question was about flesh and bones photographers around the parks :p
:flower3:

They won't scan the RFID ticket (assuming you mean the park ticket) since this won't contain any information about Memory Maker, so will not automatically link to anything. They will, however, give out a Photopass card. why wouldn't they? If you think about it, not everybody knows about MM before they visit, Disney are not going to miss an opportunity by saying to somebody "Actually you need to go all the way back to the photo center at the front of the park and buy Memory maker before I cna take your photo". So, to answer the question I think you are asking, yes you can get a photopass card from a photographer and add pictures to an existing MM entitlement.

Thanks, that was the core of my question. (Do they still hand out the photopass card, or do they now use the park ticket in lieu of the regular photopass card) and you gave a clear answer. Thank you.

that was what I meant on this thread's second post.
It's insufficiant adding OP's SIL to the plans, if they don't have MBs, because they will need to get a regular photopass card from a photographer, and OP will need to add this (those) card(s) to their account, in order for OP to download her SIL's pictures
As far as ride pictures, if OP gives her MM card to her SIL and use a Magic Band she intends on purchasing, then OP shouldn't bother "family-and-friending" her SIL on MDX. This would only add confusion to an already confusing system

Elise's answer (post #3) had me think that park tickets (RFID) could now be used to add non-ride pictures.
In that case, the family and friends would have been the way to go, and be all that OP would need to do.
but IF OP's SIL does not have a magic band, then being family and friends would only serve for onride pictures. OP's SIL would still have to get a photopass card from a photographer

So there are 2 aspects. Family and friends + linking a regular photopass card.
OP will need to do both. Add her SIL to her plans so they can tap their tickets to the screens at the end of rides, and also add the regular photopass cards her SIL will get from photographers

both steps will be required to be able to use the photopass/mm system across two parties without magic bands.

Thanks a million for clarifying that for me. What I think may be the easiest thing to do is have SIL get her own MB and link that along with mine to MM that way we are guaranteed to get our pics (all going well!) Where can I buy MBs when we get there?

If your SIL buys a MagicBand, they will not link it to Memory maker, they will link it using her park entrance media (i.e. ticket). If she is linked to you on MDE, therefore so will her ticket media be and any photos where she swipes her MagicBand will then link automatically to your Memory Maker entitlement.

You can buy MagicBands pretty much anywhere now, including downtown Disney, inside all the parks and at the TTC.

Excellent, that is great. Thanks a million for that, great to have it straight in my head before we go! :goodvibes

You can also buy magicbands before you go online at disneystore.com. They come with instructions on how to link them to your my Disney experience account. So you will be all set to go before you get there. Also you did mention you were staying on site for a few days. Which means you should be getting free magic bands that can be used for your entire visit.

Unfortunately, they won't be able to use the MagicBands for their entire visit as they won't get the bands until check-in at the Poly and I know from experience they cannpt be collected early.

I literally just posted a separate thread asking this exact question. So you can't collect prior to check in,just as I thought but excellent to have it confirmed :)
