What are the differences between Memory Maker and Photopass? Trying to decide whether I want one of these for our trip next week, but can't really decipher the differences. Thanks!

With MM, you get digital download of all pics, including ride and dining. It's like PhotoPass+, but everything is attached to your Magic Band, which is nice, no worrying about losing cards.

PhotoPass you get a card and you have to enter the number online. No ride or dining photos included, just the pics the photographers take.

I was thinking about purchasing Memory Maker and just read the FAQ link. There is something I'm still not clear on: Is memory maker attached to everyone in the party or only one person? I ask because my husband and I are splitting up here and there with different kids during our park time and I don't want to miss out on potential photos for one or the other.

Memory maker is the ability to download photos and can only be linked to one person. Generally anyone in the traveling party can collect photos but only the memory maker can download.

Thank you for trying to help me wrap my brain around this. So, for example, while the girls visit Anna and Elsa we can get those pics added via our magic band, and at the same time the boys can get their ride photo from Space Mountain, but only *I* can actually download the photos to my laptop or whatever?

I know this really should not be so confusing for me! I'm blaming lack of coffee.

If for some reason, there is a long line after getting off the rides to add your picture to your magic band, take a picture with your phone with the ID number and you can go back and get it added later that day

That is super helpful! Thank you!

I asked this question not too long ago, because the Disney site still says you get a PhotoPass card, but I was told they can just scan my Magic Band. Now I'm confused again.

Yes.

We just used MM on our March trip. For almost everything, they just scanned our bands. However, at Enchanted Tales with Belle, they passed out special PP cards to everyone with the pics already stored there rather than having everyone scan their bands. And at a couple of Meet & Greets, the PP photog had the PP cards scanned before I could show them my MagicBand. So, we ended up with 3 PP cards that we entered just like with PP and the other pics were scanned through our Magic Bands.

So does Photo Pass Plus still exist? Personally I would rather have PPP than MM.

You can purchase a Photopass on Disney's website....or a MM. The Photopass is $169 whereas the MM is only $149 (advance purchase, nothing says how much if not bought in advance).

That's why I posted this question, not really understanding the differences. The CD vs instant download doesn't matter to me (though I have some friends outside USA who are very happy since Photopass wouldn't send them the CDs....they had it sent to me and then I sent to them, lol).

I was concerned about the "only linked to one person" but if that link is ONLY about who can download that works for me.

My biggest concern is being sure that each of my family (myself and two teens) will be able to independently put photos into our MM account. they each like different rides, so they're going to be separate when they want ride photos and I am not even going to be in the park many days so they'll need to be able to get photos put into our account without me. So...they are of course already in my MDE, we get joint FP+ and dining reservations.....so they should be able to use their magic bands to access the MM....but "I" am the only one that can download?

Not quite wrapping the download around my brain.....when I get home how will it know that "I" have the magic band to download?

Ok, we arrive on 14th, so I need to purchase this before May 11 right? And then I have to download within 45 days.

Thanks everyone for helping explain this...>Disney's website is sorely lacking in details and scary vague!

Last time I had PP I had to pick which pictures I wanted to purchase and bought them individually but I guess you can just buy the cd with all them on it too.

Here's part of a chat I did with the MDE last week:

Thank you for contacting Disney. Please hold while we route you to a Walt Disney World Cast Member who will help you with your question.
Welcome to Disney, you are now chatting with 'Melinda', how may I help you today?
Melinda: Hello! How may I assist you?
Miranda: Hi. I have a few questions about MDE, and Memory Maker
Melinda: Certainly, Miranda!
Miranda: Okay. I have 3 ressies on my MDE, as we are a group of 9, with 3 rooms. My DIL just asked me if she should put her res # on her MDE. But yesterday I was told all ressies had to be put on MY MDE for all of us to use the same Memory maker.
Melinda: You can put reservations on different My Disney Experience accounts, and then link as friends and family, and allow to view and share photos, or they can all be on one account as you have set them up. However, you cannot link the same reservation to different My Disney Experience accounts, so you basically have control of her reservation. If that is okay with her you can leave it as it is.
Miranda: But I have to leave it as it is in order for everyone to USE MM without me there, correct?
Melinda: No, you can use Memory Maker for reservations with different My Disney Experience accounts, but to do it that way you have to invite each other to be friends and family and allow for viewing and sharing of photos between the accounts.
Miranda: So, if they are on my friends and family, then they can not only view and share, but ALSO have their pictures TAKEN on my MM account (in other words only one purchase of MM)and their attraction pictures (like from the rides) will also go to my MM account?
Miranda: Using their MB, not mine
Melinda: Yes, everyone can use their MagicBands to scan for photos. You don't have to all be together. Make sure at the attractions that someone goes to the kiosk to have the photos put on their MagicBands. As long as the person that holds the Memory Maker is allowed to view the photos ( I assume that is you) you can download everyone's photos with your Memory Maker. You just have to make sure everyone has allowed you to view and share their photos through Friends and Family.

Well I hope you get the card because I have just paid for the MM on the understanding from the faq's that I wouldn't need a magic band because we are staying offsite so won't have one and don't intend to buy them. It says I can collect at will call and has given me a print off to use to collect it.

DH & I were both able to scan our bands & get the pictures added to MM. It's supposed to work for anyone linked to you on your MDE account.

As for how it knows it's you, it's really not linked to your Magic Band, it's linked to your MDE account. So it has to be downloaded by whoever is attached to the MdE account that set it up. So if your husband or kids have their own MDE account, they can LOOK at the pictures, but only the lead MDE account can download. Does that make sense?

Yes you will get a card. And I THINK that if one party member has the card and and say half the party gets a picture and you aren't around to scan the card they can just give them a photopass card and you can enter it in on the website later to add it to your account.

With the magic bands anyone in the party (as long as they are linked on MDE) can scan their band and the photos will go to the account automatically. My boys argued over whose band would be scanned for pictures a lot and it didn't matter whose was scanned they all made it to the account. It doesn't just have to be the person who is the primary for the Memory Maker. Ride photos worked the same way.

:thumbsup2 thank you so much

So...if my daughter has MM on her MDE account and I have a seperate MM on my MDE account and we are linked (friends or whatever you call it), when we go to have pictures made, will all of the pictures show up on both MM accounts?
