Memory Maker refund with new AP Platinum ticket?

We purchased a Memory Maker pass this last Sept for an upcoming October trip. We needed to buy new Annual Passes and was just reviewing the new offerings with the AP. Since we will be getting the Platinum Plus AP it includes the photo download option this leaves us with a $170 Memory Maker pass that we aren't going to use. I called the DVC Member Services and they suggested that we go to Guest Services when we arrive at the park and request a refund. They went on to say that there isn't a hard fast Disney policy on this refund so there isn't a guarantee that we'll get it. Has anyone else attempted this? I can see running into one of those situations where one cast member will give the refund and the next will not with this sort of soft policy. I hate having to be the squeaky wheel for for $170 I think it might be justified.
 
I'm wondering the same thing. I bought the MM before the new annual passes and have two trips planned for this coming year. I will be very disappointed if they don't allow the change. :/
 
I haven't run into that situation before. But, isn't the photopass and MM different? I thought with MM you received different things like the magic shots that you wouldn't get with PP?
 
No experience, but I'm fairly certain there is a thread all about this and people have been saying they have been getting the refund (in person only).

Also, according to reports, people have been getting magic shots as well as videos. There's a big thread about this but I couldn't locate it with a quick search.
 

We just returned last weekend. I had ordered Memory Maker a few weeks before we left. About a week before the trip, I called Disney and was transferred to a Ticketing team authorized to handle a refund. I explained I was upgrading my AP upon arrival and was given a refund over the phone; it posted to my credit card within a couple of days. Once in WDW, I was able to upgrade my AP and immediately had PhotoPass. We did get magic shots and videos. I was also able to see photos of family members who were traveling with us that I had added as Friends and Family in MDE, even if I wasn't present for their photos. Everything went smoothly.
 
We did not get refund for our unused MM but we can use it as credit to apply toward AP purchase , but we can only do it in person at Guest Relation . Have a magical weekend.
 
I called and the lady organized a credit. The money was back in our account within a couple of days.

If you are not happy with the response from guest services try calling again.
 
We stopped by Guest Relations while here at the parks and explained the situation. They issued a refund of the Memory Maker we purchased weeks ago without any questions.
 
I added MM to our package when we booked in April. We are traveling with my brother and his family, and they are going to upgrade to AP's once we get there. I have been paying with gift cards, but have not made my final payment that is due next week. I was going to pick up the last of my gift cards this week end. I was wondering if I call before I make my final payment, can I just have the MM dropped from my package? And can they do it without losing any of our FP+, ADRs, etc? (That's probably a silly question to ask, but I'm always reading those nightmare stories and so we've tried not to tinker too much with our package because of that, lol!)

Same here. If it wasn't so much money, I might not have bothered because the guest relations lines were long but I activated my AP and then went and stood in the 45 minute guest relations line inside the park. I was given the refund with no problems.

I've just started working on my photos and downloading them (I do them in batches to stay organized) and have had no problems there either. I kind of expected some knowing Disney's poor IT system - I probably just jinxed myself now. LOL
