Q.
How long can I capture photos at Walt Disney World Resort with my Memory Maker purchase?

A.
You can begin capturing photos as soon as you purchase Memory Maker. Once you download the first photo—or otherwise redeem your Memory Maker purchase—you then have 30 days to capture more photos. Please remember to download your photos before they expire.

What does "otherwise redeem your Memory Maker purchase" mean?

We are taking two trips in mid March and early May. We plan to prepay for Memory Maker at least 3 days before the first trip. Right before the end of the 45 day expiration, we plan to download all the pictures from the first trip. This "should" start the "30 days to capture more photos" period mentioned in the clause above. Our second trip will fall in those 30 days.

This means we can get both trips under 1 Memory Maker purchase. The only wildcard is the "otherwise redeem your Memory Maker purchase" verbiage. I really don't know what this means. Is picking up the Memory Maker card at will call redeeming? If it is, I could just select the snail mail delivery. We won't get the delivery till well after the first trip, but we should be ok because we would have purchased it three days before the first trip.

Any lawyers out there who know the definition of "redeem"?

There really isn't any way other than downloading your first photo yet. Sounds like lawyer speak.

Your 30 days starts the minute your first picture is taken, not when they are downloaded.

That's not what it says in what Animal quoted.
I was told that by the cast member at guest services at contemporary.

Redeem - means get your photo taken.

I could be wrong, the CM, could have been wrong.

OP, I would just call and talk to the memory maker people and ask them for sure what it means.

Worst comes to worst it doesn't work on your second trip. So, personally I would make the first trip the photo trip and make sure I get all the photo ops I can on that trip. If it happens to work on the second trip- then great! Bonus!

Also the pictures are going to start disappearing on that 45 day mark, tand continue to disappear every day there after. Whether you have downloaded them or not. So, if you are waiting 30 days to download, and then going on another trip, most likely a week, that is cutting it pretty close to download pictures.

Just something to think about.

I hope it works for you! It would be awesome to have it work for both trips. Good Luck!

I suspect their use of the term "download" refers to the downloading of the photo from the photographer / Disney to your Memory Maker account, and not when you download from your account to your PC.

I'm certain that the 30 day timer starts when the first picture is taken, and not when you happen to log onto Memory Maker to download your first picture.

Would love to be wrong though!

I'm downloading my MemoryMaker now and as I started the process, it reminded me I have thirty days left to capture more images. Returning to Magic Kingdom on May 8th, so really hoping it works!!

Anyone have an update on this question? What does redeem mean?

Is the memory maker expiration date 30 days from when you took your first picture or from when you download your pictures?

I wish they would just show the expiration date in MDE next the memory maker! Would make it much easier to figure out if mine will be still valid for my next trip.

Thanks!

It's when you download your first photo.

That is not downloading. That is more properly referred to as "claiming".

Your window starts on the day you download your first photo NOT the day the first photo is taken. I know for sure, because I used 1 memory maker across two trips.

I went in April and then went back again late June to early July. Some of my pictures were going to expire too early so I paid $20 dollars to extend the length of time my photos were good for. I then downloaded my April trip photos mid-June.

I went on my trip in June and the memory maker still worked and I was able to take and download all of our photos (including ride photos).

So, if you're going close together, you can stretch it out. I hope this helps. I was really nervous about doing it since there wasn't much "first hand" experience, but it worked out great!

Thank you so much for sharing your personal experience!

I am cutting it close because I downloaded before I fully understood the rules and I am pretty sure it is just before my 30 day mark, so it won't be good - wish I had waited just 2 days more before downloading! I got the MemoryMaker free with my resort stay and just assumed it was only good for that stay. Should have paid closer attention to these threads before!

I will have to just see if it works for my upcoming trip because I downloaded them on another computer again today and it says the download is good through the date of my next trip. But doesn't sound like that will count for new photos.

But this is definitely good to know going forward. I liked the memory maker and I am sure I will get again in the future. (I guess that is why it was included for free for FL residents this summer to get us hooked on it too :goodvibes)

If I have a trip on September 22 to October 6 and then again December 5- December 10. Would i be able to use Memory Maker for both trips?! Will it work if I use the "photo extension" ?
