I was going to empty my Sony Memorystick Pro last night so we would have room for pictures of the new arrival (once he decides to make an appearance). I put the memory stick in our computer card reader, and it didn't register it, so I took it out and put it back in the camera to hook it up via USB for download. When I turned the camera on I get a "Memory Disk Error" message and I can't get any pictures. There were over 300 pictures on the disk of both our Disney Cruise and the restoration of our 1968 GTO. I will be crushed if I've lost them. Does anyone know of any way I can get them back?? Do any of the photo recovery downloads work, or does anyone have any ideas?? I don't really care about the stick at this point - we'll get a new one, but I do REALLY REALLY want the pictures back if at all possible.

If you haven't asked this on the Photography Board, you might want to wander over there and see if anyone has some suggestions.

I do know that some camera stores (like Ritz Camera) can recover lost images. And there's also software that can get it back IF you haven't written over it. My DD's SD card had some photos on it that she had accidentally erased and we were able to get them back. But if the files are corrupted, you may not get all of them. Good luck!

I don't know the solution, but I think this happens when people only delete photos from their camera cards and don't format the card.

I download photos to computer each outing. Then, to remove them from the card, I always use the format function while the card is in the camera. I never use the delete method to remove all photos. Never. I've read more than once over the years that deleting is the cause of corrupted memory cards.

Good luck in recovering....and remember to format.

OK, if it’s the Sony made memory stick, you can download FREE Sony Memory stick rescue utility HERE, this should work the best.

If that don’t work, you can try the O&O Software, download the Free trial HERE to see if they can recover anything. If they can, then you can purchase the software and proceed with the undelete/recovery process.

Good luck.

Maybe you took it out while it was still trying to read the meida, that's what does it a lot.

Or, on the camera, do not open (or bump) the media door while the camera is operating.

Like I said before... download Recuva. It's free, works with ALL types of memory cards, and is IME far superior to anything provided by the camera manufacturers.

Just do NOT try to restore the pictures back onto the original media. Restore them onto your hard drive and then copy them back. By restoring deleted files onto the original media (using any program), you run the risk of permanently damaging the media.

Nothing to get excited about. Memory Stick & xD media cards are animals on its own. It’s much simpler to undelete or recover pictures from SD card then those.

I had my fun on xD card and the only thing that got some picks back was O&O.

And any GOOD photo recovery program asks you to select a NEW location for recovered pictures (files), never overwrites the original media.

In that case, YMMV.... I have an xD camera, and have used this program with success, not only restoring the photos that had been accidentally deleted, but photos from a party a month prior. The same goes for Memory Sticks I use with my PSP... I've been able to restore data from them as well.

I used a company that you mail your memory stick to and they recovery your pictures. It really wasn't super expensive either. www. eprovided .com
