What is the cheapest place to buy memory cards for a digital camera? I haven't had mine very long, but I know I need a couple.

Try TigerDirect.com

At least in Canada they offer the best prices.

Best Buy had a sale a couple weeks ago, we got one identical to the one we already had and paid less for it, about $25 less I think. You might check their website as well.

Unfortunately giving just the price without mentioning the following info is making comparison impossible.

1. Brand
2. Type
3. Size (Capacity)
4. Speed (4x, 12x, 16x, etc)

We bought them from Dell when they had a sale. We went though ebates and ended up paying half of wht best buy had them at the time.

I don't really know much about the memory cards yet, I've just started looking into it so I'm not sure what size we should get, but we have a Kodak EasyShare CX6230 camera, if that helps at all. I think it would be best if maybe we got a couple of the smaller capacity ones in case something happens to one so we wouldn't lose ALL of our pictures.

How many mega pixels is your camera? If you're using a 4MP camera and set it at the highest resoultion, you'll get approximately 105 pics on a 256 Mb card (I think yours uses SD memory)

For my trip in February, I took about 190 pics in 5 days. However, that was the first trip to WDW I had with my daughter, so I'm guessing that 30 pics per day should be sufficient if you've been to WDW many times).

Should you have the choice, get the 12x media or faster so you can take your next picture sooner (if you're into sequence photography).

Get brand-name cards such as Viking, San Disk, Panasonic. The only brand-name that I've had bad experiences are Memorex and Toshiba.

As a point of reference, I use Compact Flash and Secure Digital cards exclusively. I never used anything else other than those two for digital cameras.

I did a little research today and found out that yes, it does have SD memory. I thought it was strange, though, the Kodak website lists a 128 MB card with MSRP at $61.99 ,but I looked at them at Walmart (still shopping around so didn't buy yet) and the same card was only $31.99, I couldn't believe there was such a big discrepency.

Thanks for the list of name brands, there was one that I had seen on the Circuit City website, but I wasn't sure if I had to buy Kodak exclusively. How do you know if it's compatible, does it just need to say "SD" on it, or will it say what models it works with?

Thirty pics a day sounds a little low for me, I think it'll be closer to 50.

I just bought my camera about 6 months ago (when I had a baby) and I absolutely love being able to take pictures whenever I want without worrying about using up film, but I'm still catching up to some of the technology of it. Thanks for all your help.

That's about right. Kodak brand is more expensive just because of the name. They OEM the manufacturing to other companies anyway, most probably Toshiba. They tend to manufacture SD for many corporations.

As long as it bears SD logo, then there won't be any problem whatsoever.

Last but not least, when I mentioned 30 pic a day, that's after checking and deleting unnecessary pictures at the end of each day of the trip.

Oh, also, for some reason, if you've filled about 70% of your memory capacity, the speed tend to go down a bit.

I have gotten my memory at amazon (Viking, Lexar and SanDisk). I take a lot of pics on my trips (sometimes 1,000 in a week), and 90% at hi-res, so I use 512MB cards. You can often find 512MB cards online with free shipping/no sales tax in the $50 range. I wouldn't buy less than 256MB - but often the 512MB is only $10 more.

Good luck...

Wow, thanks for the link, with their rebates those are some really great prices! Definitely the lowest I've seen so far, even better when I get some points from Mypoints! :earseek:

And that does make sense, 30 pics would be a good estimate after I deleted what I didn't want.
