Hi all

Just trying to sort out the little bits and pieces for the trip,

Memory cards, what size cards and how many do you bring? Im just about to buy a 32GB card and I currently have a 4GB one. Is that enough or should I buy two 32GB cards just in case?
I know its personal preference but I suppose just to get opinions would be great! Keep in mind I also have photopass+

Thanks a mill :)

I take two 8GB cards and that's by far enough for me. But I don't take as many photo's anymore, there are only so many you can have of the castle:rotfl:
I find it more important to have a second battery with me all charged and ready as this new camera I have seems to be a bit more needy then my last:)
Oh yes, nearly forgot, I also have a small camcorder that I also take and that has a larger memory card, so I suppose all in all I do take a lot of memory with me.

I never even thought of an extra battery!!!

Brilliant!! I think ill stick with getting the 32GB memory card and see how I get on I might possibly get a small camcorder now that you have put it in my head :rotfl2: thanks a million for your reply :cloud9:

I'm a compulsive photographer and I also have a camcorder (HD sure uses up a lot of memory)

I have a 16Gb Memory Stick and a 16Gb SDHC card (dual port) in the DSLR
a 4Gb SDHC in DW's point and shoot
2 8Gb SDHC in the waterproof camcorder.

The DSLR gets uploaded to a hard drive every 2 nights (mostly for backup purposes) but I usually fill both cards up to capacity in a 3 weeks stay

DW's point and shoot is emptied to the harddrive every night (could last up to 5 days on a 4Gb memory card)

The camcorder has at least a 8Gb card filled each day

on our last trip, in 3 weeks, the total amount of data was 43.5Gb of photographs, and 85Gb of video files.

I do backup my memory cards everyday (harddrive plugged into an android tablet) just so I don't lose everything if I lose my camera. And I try to start each day with a fresh memory card (formatted every morning before we go)

We also were on PP+ for that trip. But I realise that these figures are astronomical (TBH not half of those files are actually useful, many photographs are too redundant to be even kept on file)

If you're taking pictures with a 16Mpixels camera, and a 32Gb memory card, you should be able to take roughly 6000 photographs.
2 of those will get you 12.000 pics, that's more than comfortable

If you shoot some videos with your camera, 64Gb total might be a bit tight (but might be more than enough too)

A word of advice, Memory card prices inside the parks are ridiculous.

and definitely get a spare battery. We noticed that we invariable need to change batteries by mid afternoon.
Also remember that heat might drain the battery faster.

A spare battery is a must :) I also carry 3x 16gb sdhc cards as I feel better incase one is damaged/corrupted, rather than having one large capicity card and potentially losing the lot :thumbsup2

Also dependant on camera and if it is using sd make sure it's the right type, sdhc is the high capacity with a higher bit/s upload rate for use when videoing :)

My bit of advice would be to check the card is OK before you go. When we went in 2011, we took a brand new memory card and were too tired to download everything to the laptop after our first exhausting day. It failed the second morning and we lost all the video from our first first full day :( Got back to our room the second evening to an email from Amazon saying that batch had a fault that corrupted the card once more that a certain amount of data was on it.

Needless to say we made the time to back up everything each evening for the rest of the trip! Fortunately we had a load of photopass photos taken the first day, but we were gutted when it happened.

I took two 16GB cards with me for this trip - I uploaded to my laptop every night, but they would have been more than enough :)

I took almost 5000 photos during the two weeks, but most of those are absolute pants, testing lighting and settings etc and taking loads of pictures of the same thing hoping that one would come out alright :)

Couldn't reiterate it enough about the extra batteries though :) A lot of cameras have special camera batteries don't they, so unfortunately it's not as easy as just popping to the shop and picking up some extra AA's! I have three camera batteries which I try and keep charged up and with me all the time :)
